Not 100% sure but turning and rolling the wattch while it try to determine it's angle to 3 sattelites may make the task more difficult and require more time. Especially when the watch is turned up side down I suspect the GPS antenna (usually in the bezel) may then be covered by the watch and unable to recive signals from SATs. A part of that it's very informative video for which I'm trully gratfeful - many thanks!

This is not a smartwatch. This watch is can take a beating like no other and you can swim underwater (200 meters) with it as well. Its mud resistant . It has sapphire glass on the the front which means it's almost impossible to scratch the face. The watchband has fiber inserts and will last a lifetime. Unbelievable materials and build quality. Smartwatches or ANY OTHER watch for that matter are dainty little delicate flowers in comparison. This thing is nearly indestructible.

GW 9400 is a beast and one of the best G-Shock ever made but GPR B1000 is on a lot other level. You should have bought it if you had the chance.

I have a personal story with this watch I would like to share. I was on deployment another day. My plane was short down and I jumped out mid-air without parachute. I remembered that I had Casio G-SHOCK GPR-B1000 Rangeman on my wrist. I rotated the crown and activated an emergency parachute safely landing in the middle of the ocean. In the water, I got attacked by bloody sharks, so I used this watch to fight them off and even managed to break a few teeths off. Afterwards, the watch launched the lifeboat and I made it safely to the land. A few years, later I decided to wear the watch while commuting to the office by public transport. During my 2 hr commute, 5 women asked me to impregnate them. The 6th (Japanese) woman asked me why I'm so much interested in Japan....2 yeards later, the Japanese woman became my wife. I put this watch in the drawer ever since. I just openned the drawer and had a flashback of all those sweet memories. Sorry Casio G-SHOCK GPR-B1000 Rangeman, not today my friend, you served me well my friend.

Anyone else's watch won't show 100% charged unless you use the external charger? After gps use mines will charge to 3 bars but won't hit the 4th unless i tether charge it. Is mines faulty?

It takes so long to aquire your position. This is the reason I'm skeptical to get a G shock. To me Garmin has cornered the market. None of its competitors even come close with mapping and navigation.

I agree with you, no argue here but the Rangeman was build with another philosophy in mind, no maps, no colors...to be able to save the energy and to be as long lasting as possible without ever rely on external charging(power bank for example) or at least to minimize that. When you are fighting for your survival lost in the desert or jungle, little care you give on maps or colors that will drain your watch battery even faster, you will care on long lasting battery and reliability. This is what Rangeman does.

@@ModernandVintageWatches Unfortunately, it seems that Casio doesn't produce it anymore. And all the other Casio watches don't have an independant navigation system or just a "show me the direction to the starting point" system. Unfortunately, I'm not happy with the Garmin Instinct 2x Solar Tactical. It has this function and it works very good, but the Instinct 2x Solar Tactical has so many bugs and drawbacks such as very very quiet system tones. The smaller version, the Instinct 2 Solar Tactical is better and works well. The system tones are still quiet but significantly much louder than at the Instinct 2x Solar Tactical.

Its a great watch for those who understand its purpose. Just remember to save a location point at your base camp. I'm having a problem with sunrise/sunset times though. Its a bug in the app that happens when the home location has different DST times than what appears in the charts. So half a year I get correct sunrise. :) Casio has not yet released an update. I remember may years ago the first Garmin Gps I got had the same problem, and they fixed it after some time.

You are perfectly right, some people complain that the watch is too big, some about lack of smartwatch features or that is not a Garmin Fenix, some that despite having GPS does not have Maps, some that the navigation itself make it difficult in the 'urban jungle' ... That all missed the point, you said it right, just save your base camp location and... Go, go explore, go adventuring. This is how the watch should be used. Connecting the watch to the satellite 🛰️ will automatically adjust the sunset and sunrise times for your current location or connect it to your phone to get your location through the G-Shock App.

@@ModernandVintageWatches yes, the satélite should adjust the sunset times correctly for my current location, but it doesn’t. It has something to do with the programed DST and the real DST times for the location as it recognizes the place correctly. It corrected itself when the country entered the programed dst times. In march 2022 I’ll know if Casio fixed it for good. :). When Garmin perfect their solar watches to be usable and reliable perhaps they’ll compete with this one, but until that day, there’s nothing I know that gives the peace of mind this watch do, as it can live entirely of solar energy. And most likely if someday you do need it, as if you get really lost somewhere, Garmin, Apple etc etc will be out of battery. And this Casio may be the only tool you have still working. So there’s no comparison, at least for me. It perfect.. I still have 20 years old gshock’ s working perfectly, so you are right that they’ll may outlast you.

Negative. At first seems a little bit complicated because all buttons except the light one are accessing a menu. The navigation require a short time accommodation. Many people don't understand the watch, its purpose, its philosophy.

Unfortunately not. But via G-shock App from the phone you can make routes and save positions also. You can always save current position into the watch for further use like going back to a safe location. Also breadcrumbs trail is good feature.
