Casio HT3000 Digital / Analog Hybrid Synth with Filter Mods

Very interesting to hear what the mods offer. I've come close to buying a 3000 or 6000 before, but never quite got there. The filter mod sounds similar to the extreme self-oscillation that the filter mod on a Korg Poly 800 offers.

I just fixed one of these beautiful keyboards - replaced 1 dead transistor and the whole thing came to life! am gonna try this mod now thanks very much for the info. I'm just deciding where to put the knobs... I really like where you put yours but mine still has CASIO written there and I dont want to loose it :) looks like you made a new section of panel for yours. looks and sounds great!

Great mod - this sounds way better than my HT3000. Mine was the first synth I ever got back in the 80's whilst I was still at school - its still in great condition now, but I never use it - perhaps modding it would breathe new life into it?

It's essentially the same mod. I didn't cut any traces like legoluft suggests. I added a mod on/off switch so all works as normal if you don't use the filter and resonance pots.

Is the mod you did the same as the one in the link below? Basically you soldered the potentiometer wires to the same place, but didn't cut the the trace or de-solder the pin? Does that mean that the onboard filter cut off/ resonance parameters of the HT will work simulataneously with the additional controls (if they are switched on)? It's basically the same mod, yes. There are additional steps and electronics on the legluft suggests which I didn't find necessary. I didn't cut the traces or desolder anything, because these are destructive modifications and means the mod is permanently on. Besides, by simply 'tapping' into these points, you keep full control on programmed filter parameters on the machine and then simply alter them further with the filter cutoff and resonance knobs. The sound @ 55 is just a basic bass patch done with wave # 1 (sawtooth), pitched down by 5 notes and with chorus (no.2 setting).

Thanks so much for the information and details! I wonder, by not cutting the surface tracks, and thereby having the filter controlled both by the HT's CPU as well as the external controls, whether the filter is pushed further than if the tracks were cut? Maybe your video has better sound quality than the other modded HT's I've heard, but your filter seems so much richer and wider in comparison. I also like the idea of having both the external control and the original CPU control of the filter. With an added switch, the HT can behave exactly as standard for the original HT sound, and with the flick of a switch it could then have that wonderful filter allowed to show its full range. Perfect! I will certainly be trying this on my own HT - thanks again for the mod details!
