Around 8 years ago my best friend at the time found an abandoned F-91W in the school gym closet, and I bought it off him for 2 school hot dogs (€5). I used for some time and then the strap broke and the watch remained for years in my room, until I discovered it again like 4 months ago. I changed the strap with an Amazon one (that has a silver buckle, which adds a lot in my opinion) and it has been my daily ever since, I alternate it with a Seiko Srpj27k1

I could see the minimal look working better on the A-158. That would make it a bit more of a dress watch. The OG F-91W is one of the funnest watches i have in my collection. It may look silly on my 7 and a half-inch wrist, but i dont care. Every time i look at it, i can't help but smile. This feels like they've taken away what made it fun and thrown into a straight jacket.

I still cant understand why Casio have not yet released a faithful reproduction of the F100 in black plastic resin as original uesd in the film Alien. I already own the A100 chrome newer version with metal wrist hair pulling strap but want the F100 to be re released

It's a great little watch.The only problem is the strap is too small for my average size wrist. I surprisingly have two holes remaining when I put it on. It fits my kid perfectly though.

This is going to sound silly. My statement will contradict itself. Our host loves boring watches and I have mentioned that in previous posts. I think a lot of the watches that he likes are very boring surprisingly I like this watch it looks super clean. It's like a Bauhaus Casio. It's like a Nomos Casio additional watch.

I just got the DW-291 with blue writing and I love it. I’m 63 and wanted a nice retro beater watch and I love it. I absolutely do not like this new F91. It’s too bland. My 4 1/2 year old grandson noticed my DW291 immediately. Pretty cool. 😎👍 Love your fun channel. Keep up the great work.

As soon as I saw the title I suspected it would be about these new editions. I tend to agree that some of them look a little too plain. I also agree they'll sell (they already are, judging by Argos' website over the last month) very well. I will say that their primary aim seems to be as outfit/colour co-ordination pieces rather than watches/retro appeal pieces. Which is valid, if not necessarily for me. I will confess I wonder whether the right colour might change my mind! Not sure what's left after these and the F91WCs though. I have one of the minimalist A700 releases (the gold one). Looks very smooth (and shiny beyond belief) but I still feel the pull of the more classic/retro editions for a reason...

I’m with you MWC, this is a miss for me too. Nostalgia is a big part of why we watch enthusiasts tolerate the F91Ws very basic features. If Casio takes away those signature looks in favour of a stripped back, modern, minimalist design then I think you need to update the module. Or at least the backlight! 😂 But then again, this release probably isn’t meant for Casio nerds, it’s made for people who maybe don’t already have watch boxes full of Casios and just want a minimalist digital watch to tell the time 🤷‍♂️ I’m happy for those that like it but it’s not one for me. Another tip top show MWC 👏👏👏👏

It’s essentially a “fashion” watch in the good sense of the word - the reduced text means it’ll work better with “business casual” wear and the functionality, while not improved compared with the original, isn’t really hampered by the new look.

Minimalist yes, for me no, does it have a place? Yes sure. Many folks don’t want excessive text and this fits the bill. If you want a very cheap beater for work that is very understated yet easy to read, and doesn’t look like a kids toy, go for this one.

I disagree, I think the new one looks way nicer, and I think we're similar age. When Casio released the newer colors of the CA53 (calculator watch) with the monochrome labels and negative displays, I bought one original and one of the new black ones and swapped the modules to get an all-black calculator with monochrome lettering with the positive display. I absolutely adore that watch. It's so sleek.

I like the original F91 but don't own one. I went for another Casio 168 instead. I have the all silver version and have just purchased the bluish grey version A168WA-3AYES. Both great watches imo and an ideal size for this type of retro watch. Both have the electro luminescence back-light which is far superior to the F91. Just my opinion though. If you want a similar size watch to the F91 it's better to go for the F108 which I purchased through Amazon Global Store last year along with the Armitron Rubik and the Armitron Ridgemont analogue/digital watch which are fully stainless steel. Like the Casio F91 however the Armitron Rubik sucks as regards to the back light but the Armitron Ridgemont is great value for the price. I don't know if you have reviewed the Armitron watches I have mentioned but it is worth getting them in to give your thoughts on them. Thanks Russell for this review of the new F91 but it's not for me.

Agreed, a little too minimalist and I prefer a compliant silicone strap. The strap on my Tissot T-Race is the benchmark for comfort. Take note Casio. Great vid as always Mad!

I actually like it. Variety, man. Always a welcome aspect in everything. Sometimes the original looks tend to get boring if you always use them and that's where variety comes in. Too much color runs the risk of looking too much like a toy to some people. Though the pricing sucks, you always have the option of buying something else or the original. That's what makes Casio great.

Mr. MWC: Have disagree with you. I love the minimalist look of this watch. Really like the design and the “stealth” look and vibe of this watch. I will be probably getting a white one when available in my area. Not sure of the price. And I have a 7.25” wrist, so maybe won’t work for me. But I love the look. I hope Casio does a similar minimalist look for the 5610u. Ps. I am way older than you, and I always like to fly under the radar.

I have a ton of casios, and gshocks. I have 5 squares and I have a regular 5600E with the classic casio aesthetic but I also have the all black version (5600BB) which like this F91-W has less text and a monochrome look of all black with a negative display. I like the look of both honestly! casio is the best!

Except for the it being slightly clearer and the "bio resin"... if they would have put in a better light. The price just doesn't add up. And the screen does "appear" smaller, even though it isn't, just gets a little lost. TBH I'd go for the Casio F105, or Casio W-217....
