This was fun. :) You were spot-on with this review and I agreed with your view on each feature. The Ct-S200 would have left Yamaha in the dust if they had used the AiX sound source. They would have been flying off of the shelves. BIG money. When I tried the CT-S200 in the shop, the sound was so cringey that I didn't play it for long. (I actually winced with some of the tones..something the shop-owner noticed. ;)) Sound, for me, is the most important feature and the Yamaha was, by far, the best.. The Casio had way more features. I know keyboard companies intentionally leave out important details to discourage the budget varieties and automatically lead consumers to the next model up.. When I think of entry level keyboards and who is actually buying them (first-time players.. parents and grandparents buying them for gifts..) it's a fact that there is huge money for keyboards in this price range. These types of consumers don't know exactly what they are buying and the lack of some of the better features becomes a frustration later.. or can even be critical in someone new deciding if they want to continue to play. If they love it, they will upgrade later. I have a deep-seated passion regarding first-time keyboards. One reason is.. I, also, am on a small budget and also learning keyboard for the first time. Jeremy, that's why appreciate not only your knowledge of ALL models, but the "teacher" in you. No keyboard snobbery and great consideration for new players. For keyboard manufacturers to make a keyboard as good as they can in an affordable price range.. with a few surprise features .. is to build a name and loyal long-term customers. To hold back a few nice things to fit a price range is being penny-wise and dollar foolish in the long-term. Casio got it right with the CT-X700 and 800. My first guitar was inexpensive, had a great tone and excellent action. I played for 45 years afterwards and grew in style and skill .. mostly because my first guitar sounded so awesome. It was a Yamaha and have had respect for the company ever since. (My hands are damaged so, at my age, I'm learning keyboard .. which means you're never too old!) Thank you for this review, Jeremy! I love watching your videos... :)

Hi Jeremy. I really like all the work you have done to make this information available to everyone. I wanted a piano but the (AHL?) chip on these keyboards sounds very bad. Using the CT-S300 as a MIDI controller along with a good VST is a really good and cheap option I think. It's not really a compromise for me as I have my laptop with me always. That brings the question: What is the difference between the CT-SXXX series and a regular MIDI controller keyboard? Why are all MIDI keyboards more expensive (at least in my area)? Why doesn't Casio advertise them as MIDI controllers? My guess would be that the output is through USB and not 5 pin MIDI.

Other than the top keyboard having a pitch Bend wheel I would say it comes out perhaps as a draw Jeremy but I think sometimes the red one sounded better sometimes
@bryangl14 жыл бұрын
On sounds I thought (imagined?) I heard some slight differences, But there are other factors which people are noting, like the presence or absence (or usability) of touch sensitivity and pitch bend. I don't know which was which, but the black one looked as if it may have better (larger) speakers if using by itself (and it had pitch bend). Interesting and watched through to the end!.

Both have the same sound engine but Casio has Cut down on features like dedicated Rhythm controller buttons, Number Pad buttons to select tones/Rhythms, Smaller display etc from CTS 300 and made it expensive too! This is the new trend from Casio in all its models even higher end Keyboards. They are worried more about the aesthetics rather than ease of use. They are constantly reducing the number of buttons, reducing the size of the display etc. Making everything less and increasing the price.

Hi Jeremy! They sound about the same to me... But somehow, between your takes one sound lower than the other, perhaps an adjustment? BTW, I always wanted to learn to play keyboard and I would like to buy a used one (low budget right now). Casio and Yamaha are the easiest to find here in Brazil, so from which series and on should I look for? And sensitive keys are really essential for the learning process? I would also to try at first with an app so that I could make better use of a teacher later. Thanks a lot!

I am a new subscriber, I am looking for some upgrades cause my old keyboard from 2010 is not producing a fine tone for me anymore, I really love the way you review these keyboards, the main thing that the consumers wanna know first is the sound, second is fell and texture of the keys, and the third one is the features and fourth is the price, you may want to consider these factors more in reviewing next time, btw comparing sounds with the existing products is also a ,ajor thing specially the grand piano sounds, that is all that matters.

The CT-S200 is a great update in their lower priced lineup, plus it makes a great midi keyboard! Although sound samples were the same, the CTK-3500 had more bass in some samples compared to the S200. And touch response is useless especially for piano sounds on these types of keyboards. A proper weighted piano action keyboard is where touch response matters.
@markgregnisperos18182 жыл бұрын
I beg to differ gentleman. Using these keys sometimes lessen painful fingers and arms for playing 2 hrs straight. Touch response is important because you can still hear the sound of soft to hard touch even with light keys. I have DGX 660 and I prefer my ctx 700 to use for a gig than the dgx with heavier keys.
