I really like that they have all the information you need, in the right order, on the main screen... esp... the year, followed by date, then time, and with seconds on same line as time. And I've looked at all the newer Casio models. The only thing I don't like about this watch, is it doesn't have the round buttons like the PAW-1500, and doesn't look as stylish. But functionally, it kind of powns all the other models. So I'd rather sacrifice style, over function, any day. I really want the day of the week, year displayed, and the date... I care more about that in a watch, probably more than the time. This would make the best watch for wearing to work, to watch to know when you've got to be to work, when you get off of work, and when the weekend is right ahead...
@Smaug1
@Smaug1 8 жыл бұрын
Do you often forget which year it is? :D Just teasing a bit. I thought the moonphase was kind of fun, personally. I expected to like the round buttons better, (I had a PRG2000) but these were just as good. Thanks for dropping by and thank for the comment!
@choppergirl

I time travel a lot, so knowing what year I am in is probably the most important data a watch can display. You need to know that kind of stuff when you're filling out a check. I just bought a black band PAW 1500 on ebay for $26 with two scratches on the face and a dead battery. So much for scratch resistance and the battery lasting forever on these. The rest of the case looks in very good condition though. I also bought a CTL1616 $12 battery for it. So just under $40 total. If the stupid animations and usless blinking tide graph of the 1500 drive me too crazy with their nuisance distractions, I'll put it back on ebay and get a 2500. Right now I'm rocking a new AE1200 with the metalic band which is very nice. I sniped it for $20, but usually the go for about $25. What is ironic is I bought an Airmap 500 GPS for $20, that does sooo much more than these ABC watches... satellite time, GPS map, GPS calculated altitude, all kinds of neat things. Granted, it goes in your pocket, but... for $20, it blows these overpriced ABC watches out of the water for features, and even the $500 GPS watches. If you're lost in the wilderness, a compass and barometer is not going to help get you home much, but a full blown aviation GPS in your pocket sure as heck will. Even a $20 Garmin Nuvi auto gps will help you more that an ABC watch, and has a 4 hour internal battery life and fits in your pocket as it's the size of a slim wallet with rounded corners. I used my Nuvi in my pocket to go on a 850 mile motorcycle journey and back. No map, just GPS. Try doing that with your ABC watch compass and nothing else. So guys, stop running the prices of these damn things up, they aren't worth what you are paying for them new... it took me months to get one at a reasonable watch price, because everyone thinks these things are survivalist watches. They aren't going to help you survive. A $2 paper road map and real magnetic compass out of a bubble gum machine or Party Store will help you more. The boy scout variety orienteering magnetic needle compasses are cheap and way more accurate. Does the manual say how often does the altimeter take a reading when on the altimeter display? I need it to be often, if I'm piloting an ultralight aircraft. Does the manual say in it anywhere how often its update the display with a new reading every X seconds,, and also for the min/max altitude records?

Seems the only things that they left off this Casio watch out of all the others ive looked at, is sunrise / sunset, the hunting timer & the version 3 sensor (which is only found on the PRW 3000). I had a pathfinder years ago & was quite impressed with it but this 1 is def the best watch out atm, especially having the moon phase & tide graph which are very useful indeed & I guess makes up for not having the sunrise / sunset feature which I quite like.

If you look inside the bracelet, there are arrows that show which way the link pins come out. Push them out from the side with a push-pin. Make sure you don't lose the tiny sleeves that go with the link pins, as they ensure a tight fit. It's pretty easy, once you get going on it.

The thermometer is VERY accurate. But you have to follow the directions and leave it off your wrist long enough for it to stabilize with the ambient conditions. I think the manual suggests 20 min. The analog ones mostly give up display features in order to have the analog hands. Also some ruggedness, since an analog watch necessarily has more moving parts. Some people just PREFER analog waches. The analog ProTreks are kinda neat, as they use the hands as the compass pointer. (to be cont'd)

An Amazon seller, for $314. Prices seem to be changing daily though. One thing about this watch though: if you want the titanium bracelet, you shouldn't be the kind of guy who gets upset at scratches. It seems quite soft, and it is scratched easily. It's cosmetic, but worth knowing anyhow.

The thing about the ana-digi ProTreks is that all the digital stuff is crammed onto a tiny display. The pure analog ProTreks DO give up functionality, and cost a load more money too. (and these are not cheap to begin with, costing well over $200 at the moment)
@Smaug1
@Smaug1 11 жыл бұрын
I'm not familiar with the PAW1500, sorry. One thing is for sure though: which ever model you get, spend the extra for the bracelet version, as then, you will have more wearing options. These high-end Casio bracelets are wonderful. Comfortable, plenty of adjustment range... It's just a shame the higher priced watches can't do a bracelet this well until you get over the $500 range.

Why does the compass reading disappear after taking a reading? 4:20 That can NOT be helpful. My PRG40T and PAW1100T took a reading and kept it on the display until the user pressed MODE to return to the time keep screen

No, sorry. I don't have the watch any more. I sold it eons ago to keep the PAW2000, which is also gone now. I think my favorite watch of this genre is the simpler and cheaper Twin Sensor SGW-100B-3V. (compass/thermometer) the altimeter and barometer are not really useful enough to justify the huge difference in cost. At least not for me, who lives in the suburbs of the midwest, where there is no elevation change. The barometer resolution is not fine enough to honestly help predict the weather.

@Smaug1
@Smaug1 10 жыл бұрын
ryanzd522 Hey Ryan. Yeah, I sold them both. A year or so later, I wound up missing the 2000, and replaced it with a PRW-3000, which is just perfect. Has all the features of the PAW2000 except the dual layer LCD, faster sensors, smaller size. The PAW-2000 with the resin strap pulled wrist hairs sometimes, but the PRW-3000 doesn't. If you haven't bought one yet, save up and get the PRW-3000 instead.

Can Demir It means the watch has a radio receiver that synchronizes the watch's time to the correct time every night. This feature is usually not included for watches sold in a market that doesn't have such a transmitter. For now, the US has one, Europe has 2 or 3, Japan has 2, and China has 1. So if you're in South America, Africa, Russia, etc. that feature won't help anyway.

The glass of prw2500t-7 is made of mineral glass. that mineral glass are scratch proof. .?
@Smaug1
@Smaug1 11 жыл бұрын
Mineral glass is MUCH harder than plastic, which is used on lower end Casios, Swatches, etc. But nowhere near scratchproof. On watches like this with mineral glass, what helps more is for the bezel to be elevated above the level of the crystal, so that glancing blows that would normally cause a scratch just get absorbed by the bezel. With this watch or any G-Shock, you won't likely have scratching issues. If you really want scratch proof, you have to find something with a sapphire glass crystal.

The final two letters of a Casio model number indicate the actual manufacturing facility the watch is made in. ER is by far the most common, but there are others (ES, UR, UP for instance). To answer the question, there shouldn't be any difference between PRW-2500T-7 & PRW-2500T-7ER.

Can you please help me i don't know nothing about atomic watch, will it set time by itself? And what is solar battery life? Will I never have to replace the battery?

The rechargeable battery life is uncertain, but it is at least 10 years if there are no defects. Yes, you can set the time manually if it won't sync.
@Smaug1

Yes, it will set itself every night that it can receive the synchronization signal. Yes, you can replace the battery if it goes bad. Where do you live?

Thank you, I just searched atomic timekeeping doesn't work in my country. I live in India. Should I buy the titanium or plastic one?
@Smaug1
@Smaug1 9 жыл бұрын
They have different strengths. The titanium one will last a lot longer than the PUR (polyurethane resin) one will. It also doesn't have that long "tail" of the strap that tends to catch on things. It looks more dressy as well. However, it costs a lot, and shows scratches easily. (which really bothers some folks) If you can afford it, go with the titanium one. You can more easily and affordably switch to plastic later, if you wish. Finding a titanium bracelet after purchasing the plastic one would be much more expensive that buying it with the watch.

Interesting to know, but I like that model even less. The bezel got even bigger and is not at all useful.

I dont like that the compass bez. does not have ratcheting movement. It bothers me that it can just spin if you bump it into something.

I didn't like it either. It was a friction bezel, but was quite snug; no fears about it rotating freely. My concern is that it is useless and adds height to the watch. :)

Hi, I'd like to ask you if the prw 2500 has the Altimeter graph like the prg240-260 etc. Thank you very much!

+Tanbark Yes, it does. In fact, you can see the spot reserved for it on the home screen.

+Jeremy D Of course but in your video and also in others, this box is always empty in Altimeter mode... I was a bit confused, Thanks for the quick reply :)
@Smaug1
@Smaug1 9 жыл бұрын
+Tanbark Look in the video at 1:47. The graph to the left has the barometric trend graph, and the area to the right of that would have altitude data. (when it's in the altimeter mode)
@Tanbark
@Tanbark 9 жыл бұрын
+Jeremy D ok altitude data, but it seems doesn't have the altitude graph... If you look some video of the prg 240-260-200 or the new protrek you'll understand what I mean, they have also an altitude graph displayed in the same spot of the barometric graph, when in Altimeter mode of course :)

I now have the PAW1300T and the screen is starting to look burnt making the numbers hard to read so I'm looking for what will be my 4th or 5th Pathfinder watch. I prefer the sunrise/sunset feature of the PAW2000T but it seems sold out everywhere now, do you know if it's still available? I noticed the PRW2500T has a rubber-like material on the back, does that help it read ambient temp while on your wrist? My current one is my first metal pathfinder and the metal body causes the thermometer to just give the temperature of my arm making that feature beyond useless (it worked great on the cheaper plastic pathfinders). Are there other solar-atomic models I should consider? Thank you

It looks like they toughened up the pins that hold the bracelet to the watch, those have been breaking every few months in the 15+ years I've had Pathfinder watches. Have they finally solved this? It's really annoying taking my watch in to fix the bracelet several times per year.

aabsc the 2000 and 2500 were replaced by the 3000. I have one of those now; it's awesome. I think it may be just about obsolete too now. It also has the sunrise/sunset data.

I recently looked at the PRW3000/3500 and don't like the limited information the screen can fit at once, it can't even fit the seconds on the same line as the time, or baro graph and date, I want a display that shows more like on the PRW2500. I just saw a review that says the PWR2500 has sunrise/sunset, do you know if this review is wrong? Quite sure I want the PWR2500. Thanks
@Smaug1
@Smaug1 6 жыл бұрын
aabsc that other review is incorrect; there's no sunrise/sunset data on the 2500. You can check the instructions online to confirm.
@aabsc
@aabsc 6 жыл бұрын
I'm torn as every model seems to lack one feature or another, the 2500 has no sunset time or alti graph, the 3000/3500 have very limited info on the screen and/or don't come in a metal band. I'm still leaning towards the 2500 as having the baro graph/date/time all at once is likely my #1 priority, is that the only model that can do that? Thanks

I saw that. It's just to limit their liability; don't want anyone staking their life on an elevation reading or something. In practice, I've found the readings to be accurate, if calibrated as recommended by Casio.

The Casio PAW 1500 series are the best Pathfinder series. They should go back and re-release that's series. Every Pathfinder should have the moon display. I have a Titanium 1500 but the caseing is plastic 😩

No need to worry my friend, what you have there is a genuine one. "Base titanium China" is like the grade of the titanium they used for this watch. Well, obviously they supply it from China but it is real.

pavy415 The bracelet is titanium, and is one of the great features of this watch. It's as light as plastic, but as strong as steel, and doesn't interfere with the radio reception like a steel one might. It feels great against the skin too. Give titanium a try sometime; it's wonderful.
