I remember feeling the rolling LEDs above the keys made me feel the keyboard had life and was saying come on play a tune on me. Casio to me was a company to always look at with their introduction of cool watches, calculators and of course keyboards at reasonable prices. It continues still today.

My first keyboard. I was so crazy about keyboards then, had assiduously collected brochures and leaflets of DX7, Emulators, Jupiters and Junos and tons of keyboard and electronic musician magazine back issues, collected from junk sellers. I requested a family friend to buy a PSS480 on his way back from middle east, he did but sold it off to another for a indecent profit as back then in India all these were forbidden foreign luxuries. One day my dad decided to surprise me and went and gifted me this.. tada...I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.. I asked him why... he said he was tired of me daydreaming and distracted about 'electric organs' and someone in the smuggled goods shop convinced him that this was the hot selling keyboard for kids and teens... Since then it became my life mission to get keyboards to get over the thing .. today after 30 years, i have half a dozen of them (Korg 01/WproX, Korg Triton, Roland JP8000, Korg MicroArranger...) all lying in storage with my tech guy, as i had to make space for two growing kids, only a Nektar 88 note Midi keyboard kept on my bedside, hooked upto.a Mac running logic/mainstage..

We bought a pt-87 for our daughter must of been around '92 as she was five. We all had competitions to see who could play Greensleeves etc the best. Great times. Never did find any more roms.

Casio is known for re-using the sounds throughout there different models of Keyboards/synths. Like for say my Casio CTK-100 and my Casio SA-5 Songbank use the same sounds and both of them are from the early 90's. The only thing Casio dose between different models is to give them a certain selection of sounds out of Casio's 200+ sound library. But their are some exceptions like the newer Casio's don't use a similar sound chip like the ones from the 80's and 90's.

It’s nice that you had an extra set, but have you considered restoring those yellowed keys? The 8-bit Guy on KZbin does that and shows how on some of his videos.
@KeenOnKeys5 жыл бұрын
Yes, I was thinking about that. But I 've got a few other keyboards with yellowed keys, like the PT-80 shown in the video. I will try it when I do a review on that one.
@fiocas59253 жыл бұрын
Have you tried applying hydrogen peroxide and leaving under the sunlight for 1 hour? Reapplying every 10 minutes. It has a very good effect on yellowed plastic. I tried it on a small Sanyo radio.

@arci17144 жыл бұрын
the output you put or the chord, where is it connected? is it compatible with the cellphone or laptop or pc? 😁 thanks. good v presentation
@KeenOnKeys4 жыл бұрын
It is just a simple line out, or headphone output. It can be connected to everything that has an audio input. In this case it was connected to the input of my audio interface.
@Lachlant19842 жыл бұрын
My best friend gave me his PT-82 earlier this year, and that's how I came across your KZbin channel. When I use the PT-82 with headphones I hear lots of hiss in the audio channel, I think it's always done that since it was new, but in your videos I don't hear any hiss. Do you overcome that issue by turning the volume on your keyboard up high and turning down the input on your computer/mixer?
@KeenOnKeys2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I always try to record as loud as possible. But I didn't had any noise issue with the PT-82.
@Lachlant19842 жыл бұрын
@@KeenOnKeys Well that's good, because with mine I hear a constant hissing noise, like the sound of a distant waterfall. Of course the noise is created by the amplifier circuit and I believe the keyboard's made that noise since new. I don't think it's indicative of a fault with the keyboard, but it could probably be corrected by recapping the unit or something like that.

A red PT-82 was in the house when I was a kid (under 10 years old) but I think being scarred by really bad ROM renditions of unfamiliar tunes (eg. Ob La Di Ob La Da) cancelled the novelty value. It was too much of a toy to be a useful learning tool.

I once has a vintage keyboard similar to this PT(petite) keyboard but mine was a MT 800 (Mini keyboard) with a ROM Cartridge: Sunshine of my life, Star Wars, Feelings etc. It was nice to see other types of classic casio keyboards as nostalgia to my old casio keyboard one. 😊😊
