In this video, I'll go over the solar setup that I put together for my travel trailer. It's not fancy but it gets the job done for my power needs. I use the following equipment for my setup. Let me know in the comments if you have any questions. Happy to answer any concerns you have.
Rockpals Solar panel - amzn.to/3l8ONMn
NinjaBatt Power Station - amzn.to/34ns1u6
Deep Cycle Battery (Not Duracell but close) - has prongs for solar alligator clamps and bolts for the camper to lock into - amzn.to/2EmdAeZ
Renology Wanderer Charge Controller - amzn.to/2EgzhNS
1000w Power Inverter (I upgraded from the 500w inverter the day after making this video) - amzn.to/2EaX2Hg
Cables to the Solar Panels - amzn.to/34pH7iM
Cables to the battery from the charge controller - amzn.to/3j6XgOo

I like this video very much. I'm very interested in using solar so we can do some boondocking but it seems most videos about solar are so technical that I can't figure out what they are talking about. Your video is very clear and it's something I think I could do. I really like the solar pad that you can move around. That seems to be a good way to go.

enjoyed the video and the tips for power usage. i was curious about the fridge. do you keep that on and cold all the time and with what power. thats a great camp area your in. i have been thinking to do some exploring and am liking the casita or the scamp or maybe a small class c like 21 or 23 foot model. i want to know if you use an electric bike while in your travels just to explore right around your set up or the area your in. i have been interested in getting a foldable lectric fat tire bike and wondered if you use anything like that, bike, scooter, single wheel board.

You could use a DC-DC converter (or two, if they take different voltages) to power the Internet gear from the 12VDC.

Phones don't take 20 watts to charge, lol, they take about 5 - 7 watts. Also, did you know that your laptop charger converts AC to DC for the laptop, which means you are taking Dc power from solar, converting it to AC, then bck to DC. Normal conversion of DC to Ac results in a 30% loss, but in the case of a laptop charger, you are losing even more. You can get a universal laptop charger that takes Dc and sends it unconverted to your laptop (which, btw, is Dc). Cheers! I love the Casita.

Where would you plug in the universal laptop charger? Is there a DC power port in the casita or do you plug it into a separate solar generator?
@jasonw3303
@jasonw3303 3 жыл бұрын
@@philgarton8058 most folks would add a car cigarette lighter and some usb post right to the battery for dc. I’m not sure they make a universal charger like that, for a mac.

Nicely done! Thank you for sharing. Do you use the solar panel charge controller when charging your solar generator?

That's all very informative but you can electively choose not to charge most of those things (or can in your vehicle when you are driving) but even on propane how much power does the refrigerator require? I know it needs some to run its controls, igniter, thermostat, etc. I can't find any info from Dometic or anyone else. Do you have an idea? I would really like to know because I can recharge everything else in my truck and use Luci lights (solar) and don't use a computer when camping. I have a Casita also. Thanks.

@@vagabondingventures3918 Looking forward to it! Regarding "showering in the river" I would encourage you to read about and follow "leave no trace" principles: lnt.org/the-skinny-on-soap/ Even biodegradable soap can be harmful to aquatic life, so generally LNT encourages us to take our water 200 yard from the water source and use our earth-friendly soap out there. I know it is a hassle, but LNT allows all of us to use the outdoors together more responsibly for generations to come! Thanks!

Paige Thanks for the tip! I thought my biodegradable soap was fine in the river so I'll definitely make that change and keep my soap away from the water source from now on.

Hey Ryan, or anyone who has a Casita, I know Casita’s are not rated as a four season camper, but how well do they do if the temperature drops down in the 20’s at night?

I'm planning on installing reflectix insulation on my egg because the winter gets down to a cozy 24-32°f at some of the campgrounds I like to visit here in California. It gets pretty chilly in just the fiberglass and a 30°f sleeping bag.

What size Burke water system do you have?
@MaryOKC

The Berkey is the Travel Size. I recommend the fluoride filters with your set up and the spigot where you can see the water level. Currently Berkey is out of the travel size and expected shipment (SEP2021) but they are still out. I’ve had one for several years and enjoy good clean water..the next size up is called the Big which is an inch wider and stands 21” compared to the Travel which stands 9”. The Big holds 2.5 gallons.
