In my experience, it's way easier to make people realize where the time goes on panel work, than it is for doing the paint work , too many of them think it's just a matter of filling up the spray gun with the colour, and wafting it over the car until it's coloured in ,and Bob's your uncle, its all done ,easy.☹

I have been a car nut for 55 years and this is the first time I have seen how this is done. Thanks very much, it's brilliant.

That on and off is so time-consuming, and so many people do not realize how much time goes into just that aspect of the build. And how much time in just putting the spot weld holes takes. Great work, brother, and that is some incredible progress on a truly incredible ride.

Like how you continuously weld the wheel tub. Holding those two pieces together with spot or plug welds isn't as likely to be completely watertight, and I would expect that eventually you'd get water flinging up off the tyres and penetrating the join between the sheetmetal pieces and eventually rusting out the plug welds. A nice seam is better than body sealant, especially when it also deals with grit and gravel off the tyres.
@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 Жыл бұрын
Your right! They were continuously welded at the factory for those reasons and for added strength!

I would've welded the rest of the seams on that U shaped 'fish plate' inside the rail, but I'm guessing that the torch doesn't fit in there, so I'd at least paint it, if not coat the heck out of it with seam sealer.
@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 Жыл бұрын
It's actually stronger to plug weld it. If you weld the edges of the plate that becomes the weak point so you may as well of just butt welded it. More weld is not necessarily stronger
@DanEBoyd Жыл бұрын
@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 Ah, makes sense. Being a pessimist, I would've still gone ape-shit with some rattle-can paint and/or some seam sealer. But I guess you can only go so far - it's not like the rest of the car will have that level of protection.

Why don’t you spray the inner structure before installing the quarter? Realizing it’s only that bad after 58 yrs. Of course these cars don’t see rain and snow like when they were new.
@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 Жыл бұрын
I do spray the structure with a rust converter/ primer on all the bare metal areas including the areas getting welded. Then I follow up with cavity wax rustproofing

That's funny oh 3 minutes and it's on you know how much I hate body work you make it look so damn easy its a art just like engines im sure i make it look easy but its cause i have been doing it for 45 years i dont have to patience for body work it truly takes a lot of patience to work with paper thin metal and make it look phenomenal I'm sure you're not cheap but if you want body work to look like Perfection you take it to people that do work like you do I hope you have a few young guys in your shop that you're teaching old school tricks to because it's a dying art form just like in my trade no one wants to do engines anymore they all want to just plug a computer into it someone still needs to learn how to do the heavy stuff I got a guy in my shop that does cars on the side text the front half of one car puts it on another one puts it together and you can never tell them cars were apart or cut in half I simply just do not have the patience for that but when it comes to engines he won't touch them he'd rather plug his computer in and tell me what needs to be done you are a artist and my hat is off to you
