This scene is kinda hard to watch. This was one of my best friend's favorite films. He died in August of this year (2016) of Leukemia. I didn't realize how he was one of the very few I ever trusted in my life. We used to lookout for each other on many occasions. Not only did I consider him as friend... but he felt like a brother. He was only 23 when he died. It tears me apart how we could lose loved ones so early in life. There isn't a day that goes by where I don't cease to think about him...

Why’d you cut it off before he answered Kat’s question? It’s almost as heartbreaking as his story! _“It’s like... being born. Only _*_backwards._*_ I remember, I didn’t go where I was supposed to go. I just stayed behind, so my dad wouldn’t be lonely...”_
@LucyLovettLestrange9 ай бұрын
It’s funny cause Casper says he has a mother but speaks more of his dad. He said he stayed behind so his dad wouldn’t be lonely, so does that mean something happened to his mother? He seemed to have been very close to his dad

After watching the trailer, it was said Casper wondered the halls of Whipstaff Manor for 100 years. The movie came out in 1995, so Casper died in 1895. He died as a 12 year old, so he was born in 1883 ( died at age 12 in 1895)
@brandonspain123459 ай бұрын
This is also confirmed in the 4th episode of The Spooktacular New Adventures of Casper where Casper wants to go see a PG-13 while disguised as a human but he’s too young to go see, and he reveals he’s 112 years old and turns 113 in April.

What really makes the scene eerie is there is no answer given of what happened to his mother. He stayed behind for his dad, who used the rest of his remaining years trying to bring him back. Its implied his mother died after seeing him as a ghost. Either of a heartattack or her killing herself.

This scene has stuck with me throughout my life. I remember seeing it in theatre's in 1995. There is something really sad about the ghost of a 12 year old describing how he died and how sad his father was. Plus the music added a whole other level.

He had to have been sick beforehand if it was an illness because just being out in the cold late at night isn't going to do make you that sick. The other option that I feel make sense with the story of the sled is he got injured late at night and the cold didn't help him survive.
@richardgrace45006 жыл бұрын
Neoblackdragon he got pneumonia.. and yes that is caused by being out in the cold for too long because your body heat drops too low and then you get sick "pneumonia" which back in the time when he was apparently little joshing by his toys and all the. Clothes and the newspaper they didnt have a cure for pneumonia all the could do was try to warm you up and get your body temperature back to normal and try to control the temperature that was inevitably coming but more times then not pneumonia was normally fatal

Supposedly this backstory is canon to the original author and 1950's show writers but it was too depressing to include in the 50's cartoons and Seymour Reit's original 1939 children's book.

I was trying to read the dates off the news paper, but it's too blurry. If his favorite baseball player was Duke Snider (while Casper was alive and didn't become a fan while a ghost), then he died from 1947 to 1957 because that's when Duke Snider was playing baseball. AND the Casper cartoon was created in 1945 so maybe that's when he died, but then he would have missed Dukes playing years. So maybe Casper became a fan when he was already a ghost. And the pic of his father does look early 1900s to late 1800s.

Honestly they way he explains how he died it raises the question of why there aren't many ghost over the world. If ghosts were common what would that intake would it be like vampirism thing like a ghostly organization where they choose how they rule the world and humans become their playthings or like a zombie outbreak where it spreads like wildfire where the dead outnumber the living or would they be treated as second class citizens not entitled to anything this raised so many questions

I'm sort of curious how Casper lost a finger. I know he is a cartoon ghost and all but if he used to be a live action human, what happened to one of his fingers?
@kiayaplews85932 жыл бұрын
It's a ghost thing. Some stories say ghosts have an "uncanny valley" effect that almost mirrors what they were like when they were alive in some way or another (thing Marley from "A Christmas Carol" or the twins from "The Shining") while others are depicted as a glowing orb or this blob with hands but no fingers at all. This look is somewhere between the two extremes.
@benhuether54742 жыл бұрын
@@kiayaplews8593 Yeah I know what you mean, in the short stories of M. R. James (father of the modern ghost story) human ghosts can sometimes appear with various inhuman characteristics like longer nails, venomous fangs, covered in hair, and one even appearing as a large amorphous frog 🐸.
