When I was a kid in the 90s I had a vhs with an assortment of random old cartoons and this was on it along with some old popeye, betty boop, woody woodpecker, and some others. I think pink panther and maybe felix the cat. I always remembered the train scene from this though and now that I'm an adult I realize how dark it was.

I also had old DVDs that I would play all day like Barbie and Casper. I randomly thought back about Casper and the only thing I remembered was the train too. I think what stuck to me was the scenes where he would be upset because it made me want to be his friend so bad lol. But he would end up having a good ending anyways. I think this taught us to have sympathy as growing up and that we all just want to be friends. Also the one with the fox “There’s good boo’s tonight” is also very sad, almost made me cry.

As I kid I never realized just what Casper was trying to do on the train tracks, I just thought he was too lethargic to care to move or something, not trying to kill himself or anything. but now watching as an adult I realize how truly disturbing that moment was. In fact, in some ways it’s even more disturbing that he didn’t die because for a brief second he thought he would be condemned to an eternity without friends and there was nothing he could do to stop the pain, which in all honesty is a fate worse than death

According to the 1996 TV show, (written by the writers of the movie) Casper claims he's 112 years old (turns 113 in April.) Doing the math, Casper died in 1895, one hundred years before the first movie's events. Not 1945. (And in the trailer of the movie, the narrator mentioned "For 100 years, he has wandered the halls of Whipstaff Manor, waiting for someone." Meaning the movie and original shorts aren't canon. Although, in the same show, it's revealed Casper did have a cartoon and merchandise, implying the original cartoon was inspired by the "real life" Casper at some point.

When I saw Casper crying on the train track in a failed suicide attempt, I just really really wanted to jump into the screeen and comfort the poor dear by giving him a great big hug, dry his little ghostly tears and tell that I’ll be his friend and that everything’s going to be okay. My heart still breaks for him cause I can’t help but genuinely feel REALLY sorry for him of what he’s going through. Nothing breaks my heart more than to see a beloved cartoon character sobbing his little heart put. Please don’t cry, Casper. You’re gonna make me cry. 😭😭😭

@@24Roxyx Yeah I do remember watching that a lot as a kid and watching Casper carry his fox friend while breaking down and crying is absolutely heartbreaking. That would be like losing your pet, only way harsher. As an autistic kid, I’ve developed sympathy and compassion for Casper in a way that I do identify with in terms of struggling to find and make new friends. Although my social skills are quite good though quite unusual for someone on the autism spectrum, I sometimes struggled with my communication skills growing up and even still to this day. Despite that and the fact that struggled with anxiety, depression, lack of self worth and self esteem, i actually have a pretty good life overall: I have 2 part time jobs as a sign maker and a document digitizer, i graduated from high school, went to college twice and even graduated with honours in one of my college programs, own my own condo, can cook meals for myself, can take the bus to work or anywhere in the city, have a very loving and super supportive family and I have 2 beautiful, happy, healthy and most spoiled cats ever that i ABSOLUTELY loved them both dearly as if they’re my children. Plus I still have great friends even though I don’t get to see them very much these days due to them having very different lives than mine but I do make it up to them by texting them fairly often.

The title cards always felt like they set a foreboding, ominous but curious hook, encouraging the audience to be ready for anything as to what a “friendly ghost” might have in store. You almost expect there to be giantic, omnipotent elder spirits in the sky involved, yet it turns out to be the story of a ghost with the soul of a tender-hearted child in the impossible position of being feared when he wants to make friends. Yet, the giant elder spirits suggested there are greater forces at play in a grander scheme…or not! If you believe in ghosts as well as greater spirits than they, then this helps to keep you on your toes. Of course, since this is the tale of a friendly ghost, just for fun those giant spirits grabbed your attention anyway! Anyhow, I may have first seen this when my 2nd grade teacher put on for us the one Kid Flicks video collecting it on a Friday just before we were let out for the weekend. I don’t recall if it was for Halloween or not, but still it left a lasting impression on me to see what the short that started it all was like. Plus, the ending went a long way in establishing a major sticking point that was barely touched upon thereafter: human children, of the wide-eyed, polite variety, are among the only people not afraid of Casper. The line in the theme song, “the children love him so”, wasn’t put in for nothing.

You don’t look scary to me or anyone. Your just a kid a cute little ghost boy. Besides everyone loves you just the way you are. Casper: love?, I mean no. Everyone in the living are scared of me they just run away before they knew Me. Me : like a running gag. Casper those people who accuse you for a monster are not real mortals. There just stupid silly and pathetic cartoon characters. And so are you. But your much sweeter. Besides I’m the real mortal. Casper: how that true. Me: because cartoons don’t bleed . I’m not scared of any of those ghosts who where jerks to you especially the ghostly trio. Stretch: did someone said the ghostly? Fatso: did someone say trio? Stinky: did someone say…. I got nothing I always pick last. Casper: hie guys. This is my biggest fan. Strength: Casper. Your supposed to scare people not be friends with meat bag over here. Me: excuse me ? Who are you calling meatbag you haunted mansion hitchhiker like moe Howard? I rather see Casper teach a lot of bandits a lesson about boundaries that’s his true way to scare people. Fatso: ooh tough guy. Stinky: who made him president of g- busters? Stretch: alright boys let’s give him the works . ( the trio trying to scare me but I’m better) Me : I’ve seen many cartoons. Was that your best frights . Now let me show you mine (growling, roaring, screeching )! Trio: aaaaah ! Stinky: he’s monster! Fatso: what an dental animal ! Stretch: let’s get outta here! Me : that shows them who’s the boss. Casper: wow I’ve never seen a mortal scared ghost before. Me: your friends are cowards as always. And I hate bullies.

It's a twist. The mother is named Nicole Kidman, and she's a ghost along with her two kids, as well as their belongings, like the ball.

I felt sorry for Casper. Those ghosts aren’t that scary either. There basically cowards and foolish pranksters who only scared mortals for fun. Only a true ghost of vengeance knights that.

Okay, this, a bunch of Looney Tunes, and several other very old very vintage cartoons were on a VHS I had as a child. It was at my great-aunt's house, and I don't think it was taped off of the TV I think it was an actual compilation. I'm 29 now and these videos stuck with me, so I made a playlist. Does anyone know what the compilation might have been called? VHS, Circa 1990 or 1992 or 1993 or something.

in the intro there have three ghosts?
@thornimation54926 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I think you're right. At first, when its light and day, it looks like clouds with faces like 3 old men, but when nightfall comes, you realise that they are not what they originally seemed. Yeah, they gotta be 3 ghosts. In fact, I think they bear resemblance to the ghostly trio, Caspers 3 ghost uncles, who don't appear in Casper cartoons until the early 1960s I believe. I reckon that the ghostly trio were inspired by those 3 ghosts in the intro, would you agree?

Shadow Manymules I'm a year late, but my VHS had this, Casper visiting the moon, the Small Fry cartoon, the (now super racist) looney tunes African Island and Arab desert toons, plus To Spring, Greedy Humpty Dumpty, and a three little pigs cartoon... It doesn't sound the same as yours but I'm searching too. Fairly certain it was a legit tape and not a combination of junk my great aunt taped off TV. Especially because I'm only 29 and I'm sure most of these weren't on repeat in the early 90s.

I wonder who Casper was before he died, how did he die and became a friendly ghost.
@diogeneslamplit65735 жыл бұрын
He was a scary thug who swiped cheap cigars from which he intended to manufacture an improved more-marketable controlled substance product, intimidated a shrimp clerk who dared to suggest to him that he not leave the market without paying for the merchandise he was carrying, had never been taught to walk on sidewalks instead of in the middle of the street, disrespected and argued with police when "called out" on that issue and so came to their attention when an alert on the strong-arm robbery was broadcast and tried to kill the arresting officer and to just exactly what all the aforementioned would have bought any of the rest of us if we'd done the same............................................Sheets up! Don't Exorcise! .

There’s two different stories, in the 1995 film, it’s said that he died from pneumonia at the age of 12. In the comics it is said that he was born a ghost because both of his parents were ghosts.

It's funny how a little misunderstanding can go a long way, and in doing so, it can go the wrong way, and Casper was totally misunderstood just because he was a ghost.
@supersonicgreenski48586 жыл бұрын
Casper was giving up too soon. He could have tried purposely scaring baddies in the flesh. I know he tried that in the series with the angels. I don't believe that ghosts exist and can be seen, heard, felt, or smelt. I'm don't even think all Casper movies or tv episodes are part of the same world.
