This was one of the saddest moments in my childhood. Poor Casper spends the first half sad because he can't find a friend and when he finds one, it was so heart-breaking to see him getting chased and then killed. I was glad that they got a happy ending when he became a ghost as well but it still made me sad as a kid. It still does to this day. Such a underrated moment in a children's show

In nearly every Casper cartoon Casper is an outcast by his fellow ghosts because he wants to be friends with the living while the other ghosts want to scare the daylights out of the living. Whenever Casper goes out to try to make friends usually about two to three living creatures get frightened by him and runs away. And then when Casper is at his lowest a lonely creature feels empathy and befriend Casper. The thing that bothers me the most is that even though the cartoons usually have a happy ending we don't see the friend in the next episode. What happened to them afterwards?

Seeing the fox get killed tore me up nearly 30 years later, but was happy to see he stayed a ghost to be with Casper. He really should have at least tried to scare him away. In the next movie A Haunting We Will Go he legitimately intentionally frightens the hunter who shoots at his friend. Casper had no guts in this one. That’s why I liked the next cartoon better because he actually did something. I like Ferdie as his friend better than Dudley Duck whom he befriends in the next movie but Casper was a stronger character in the next movie. Here he’s just basically asking the hunter to kill his friend.

we say that this episode, is a mixture of emotions, sadness for on once hand, and happiness on the other, although it is a bit controversial, since casper loses his new friend, who died, but then recovers him in a ghostly way, that seems much for a series intended for children (despite the good humor of this cartoon).
