Screaming would likely have either made him run, or made him panic and run AT her and become violent. There is no way to know what is the right way to react in that situation. She did fine, she remained calm and so did he, she managed to get to her neighbor’s door and no one got hurt. This could have turned out so differently.

That girl is absolutely legit. Cause if you scream, the red man might jump on you and do anything he can to stop the scream, and yes, it includes killing you but the girl is calm (maybe too scared to know what to do) and run to the front door. At this point, she has a lot more chance of survival. She can either run down the stairs, or screams for help, or knocking neighbors' door for help. Most importantly, she can escape from him and imagine if she ran into her room and lock herself in. That would be very bad.

The thing with exploring abandoned buildings is that it's actually really dangerous. Not because of anything supernatural, but because of certain humans using those buildings. I remember some years ago when three film students from Mexico entered such a building in order to film a horror shortclip for a school project. Sadly, that building wasn't completely abandoned, it was used as a hidden laboratory by a drug gang. The gangers killed the students and dissolved their bodies in sulfuric acid to get rid of them. The police only discovered the crime because the killers kept some of their belongings for themselves and left them at the site, so the authorities instantly knew what was the exact reason for the three students going missing. Another danger are homeless people. Quiet often those guys defend their shelters against other hobos, especially if they don't want anybody else to know about the location. Sometimes those people are drug addicts with nothing to lose, so loners entering their dwellings late at night can be welcome victims to kill and rob in order to statisfy their addiction. As someone coming from a family of police officers, I know of quiet a lot of such incidents. I'm not a big fan of ghost investigations and urban explorations, but if you're into such things, please make sure that people know where you're going and never walk there alone. Take care of yourself, don't provoke potential inhabitants of such buildings just because you think you're talking to a ghost and bring at least some pepper spray with you, just in case. If you think you're in danger, just run away as fast as you can. It's better to chicken out for no real reason than to be butchered by bad people like a farm animal.
