Mexico's new corridor DOES NOT intend to compete with Panama. Firstly, there is more than enough demand for several interoceanic routes. But most importantly, Mexico is aiming to industrialize the south of the country with massive industrial parks (which you only get to around 10:50) to transform materials that reach one coast into value added goods shipped on the other side (or by land into the US/Canada).
@dannyk847Күн бұрын
The main reason for the tren maya. Bunch of dummies think is to for the gringos, it's primarily built to industrialize and transport and more importantly- cheap labour
@dVector13Күн бұрын
Intentions dont matter, because this corridor will compete with the canal as a nearby mode of goods transportation. Even if there is plenty of demand, this corridor will still get shares that may otherwise have gone to the canal.
“living standards” and the map may be a bit misleading. In Campeche for example, the average person is fully experiencing impoverishment, whilst just a few people enjoy the wealth of the booming oil industry there. These inflated numbers portray a very different picture from the real situation on the ground unfortunately… The wealth disparity remains indeed one of the biggest issues allround.

I lived almost a year in the mountain town of Chiapas, San Cristobal de las Casas. Certainly, other parts of Chiapas are poorer, but I found it one of the most beautiful places to live in Mexico or the U.S. for that matter. The fantastic climate, the natural setting, brisk clean air, fresh food, chocolate, coffee, hiking, rich cultural heritage, incredibly cosmopolitan considering how remote the town is from anywhere, there is a vibrant mix of both indigenous and international youth culture, German, French, Italian, Russian etc. along with several native languages you hear spoken in the main street,... all this with one of the lowest costs of living of any town with comparable attractions. The quality of life... well I may return to settle there having surveyed other parts of Mexico and the U.S.

you didnt evne mention how a prosporous Mexico could also solve America's border and migration issue. If Mexico becomes more of an attractive location than central and southern american migration would likely halt at Mexico instead of going north and then Mexico would attempt to reinforce its own borders at the south so mass migrations would begins to slow down significantly at the central american- mexico border area instead of it slowing down and stopping more north within mexico and southern US. It's a win win solution for that issue too
@FiredAndIced2 күн бұрын
Nope, there are still vulnerabilities that Mexico must solve, and no American intervention (save for a global acquiescence for American interference in squashing fringe militants and drug kingpins) will resolve Mexico's fragmented political structure (federalism, where states have *more power* than central government). If there are no economic successes replicated across the United Mexican States (yes, it's literally called that officially, _Estados Unidos Mexicanos_ ), it's like having an active white-power insurgency in Alabama, whose group ultimately wants only *white people to be in power for the entire world* . A similar insurgent in Mexico will want to be like that, too.

I am Mexican and I must make a clarification about what you mentioned about the GDP per capita of Campeche. It has a high GDP per capita because oil activity represents a large part of its economy (80% of its GDP) and its exports are almost entirely oil-based (90%). This supposed wealth is not reflected in the people or their infrastructure, unless you have a position in the corrupt state-owned company Pemex, you are practically the same as the state of Chiapas. It is worth mentioning that Pemex mostly operates with debt and losses. Due to the great nepotism that exists in the left-wing government of AMLO, who Sheinbaum is only an imitation of him in his government. Not just anyone enters Pemex with large salaries and benefits, only if you have a family member or friend in a union position. They do not allow competition by law. A big problem for my country. The most developed and wealthy state in the country is actually Nuevo León, more specifically Monterrey and its surrounding areas such as San Pedro Garza García and specific areas of Mexico City such as Polanco, Santa Fe, Bosques de las Lomas, etc.

Snce we love our brethren, the mont likely scenario is Mexico's govt will invest even more than it already is in developing Central America, so people are not forced to migrate in search of jobs. Most US folks don't know this, but my gov basically gives away for free millions of USD per year to oer Central American brethren so they can start businesses and/or plant lucrative crops. We also basically saved Cuba from collapse a few months ago, giving away crude oil for free and sending technicians from the state-owned electricity company to repair their aged mess. By helping our neighbors he actually help ourselves, the USA should learn a thing or 2: buirding a wall only makes it difficul to cross, solving the root cause eliminates the problem

The Battle of Salina Cruz was a conflict that took place in 1905 near the port of Salina Cruz, Oaxaca, between the 7th Division of the United States Pacific and the 4th Mexican artillery regiment. Manuel Mondragón canyon stopped the US navy in it's tracks.

The economic activity in EU states, exemplified by Croatia, operates on a fundamentally different level compared to that of Mexican states. In the European Union, the economies are characterized by a well-established infrastructure, advanced technologies, and higher living standards, all of which contribute to a dynamic and robust market environment. In contrast, Mexican states are primarily in the developing phase, where economic growth is often slower and marked by challenges such as infrastructure deficits and varying levels of industrialization. This stark contrast in development status leads to pronounced differences in economic patterns, investment opportunities, and overall market behaviors between the two regions.

@OnePlayer4802 күн бұрын
It's supposed to just be an emergency alternative if the Canal ever can't work, the entire thing is mostly a conveyor belt railroad for Mexican industries so they can make goods in the Atlantic and send them right to the Pacific and vice versa. It also works as a small alternative if countries want to send a really minor amount of goods but they don't want to use the Canal or can't, legally can't.

Just to clarify, Campeche’s GDP per capita is inflated because most of Mexico’s oil is extracted off of its coasts, and has a population of less than a million. It is richer than Chiapas, but the gap in living standards is not that big. I believe the largest difference in living standards is better seen within the same city, as places such as metropolitan municipality of Chimalhuacán have living conditions (HDI) similar to India, and Benito Juárez, around 20 km from there, has a similar HDI to Switzerland
