Don't get me wrong, cause this is a great video if for nothing more than the sound... The distinct sound of a train that's going nowhere FAST!!! Man alive, I could listen to this all day long... the Shays are really working and doing the kind of work that they were meant to do. I hope I get to see it in person someday... but until I can, at least we have this video to remind us of the time that men and machines sweated and steamed in their labor... the byproduct of which was a sight and sound display of power unlike any other on earth.

That single chime sounds like a German single chime.

This whistle was a guest one, 2 has never worn it before. It may have worn a similar one though

It wore a hooter whistle several years ago, but it was an N&W one. This hooter sounds like the kind you'd find on late 19th Century 4-4-0s. Really interesting hearing it at Cass.

Must be student firemen on both locomotives, too much smoke which is wasting coal.

@@cassscenicproductions8888 look at the photos of the log railroads....they NEVER smoked like that
@cassscenicproductions88883 жыл бұрын
@@judpowell1756 well no. Since the photos are black and white it makes it hard to see the smoke.

2 has a vet fireman, 4s is newer, as far as the smoke the engine have to fire like that before the grades begin or else pressure goes to low, along with the fact they eat more then your standard rod engine. Also keep in mind these burn coal, and burn about the same amount they would in the logging days
