I’ve been kinda in Cassie’s shoes. Not in the case that I hooked up with someone my friend had been in a (very abusive) relationship with, but in the sense that I know that longing for love. That desperation and devotion and looking for affection and attention in anyone that gives it, even when that person is awful for you. Cassie is someone with SERIOUS BPD. And this show did a greay job showcasing what real bpd is. Obession, psychosis, anxiety, abandonment, nervousness, self inflicted isolation while simultaneously hanging onto friends for dear life. Maddie has issues too, but one thing cassie is that maddie isnt is mentally vulnerable genetically. Maddie was abused by nate and suffered. Cassie was abused by nate and genuinely thought that was love, and that she just needed go keep BEING maddie to keep the obsession going "on both ends" And nate being an absolute narcissist wants maddie because maddie knows something is wrong with him and even though she loves him, runs screaming. Narcissists LOVE people they can chase, and Maddie is a status symbol just like him. Clout. But cassie gives him his "supply" he drains the life out of her without even having to lift a finger and she is so deep in her own delusional mind, she cant see straight. In her mind, this is exactly what she wants. Even if it isnt. With bpd, even if it isnt what you want, or what you deserve or what you should do, your mind tells you its what you need. And who can argue with that?

What shocks me about this generation represented in this show is the multitude of excuses & blame attribution they’ll saddle others with in order not to be held accountable for their own terrible choices & negative behaviors. Cassie, may suffer from more than one mental health issue, but she is still the person who is choosing the actions that lead to dire consequences for herself. Trust this - she is toxic enough on her own, and really didn’t need to use Nate as an excuse. They both are in need of intervention & counseling separately. Kudos to Sydney Sweeney for doing an outstanding job playing this character. Cassie, with all her complexities, is NOT an easy character to like or root for on this show. Yet, because we’re allowed to see how far she keeps on falling without her own desire for self preservation/survival kicking in, surprisingly, we want Cassie to be okay at the end of the story.

Looks like Cassie had BPD. I was diagnosed with BPD a while ago and can recognise my before therapy version in her. You, guys, have no idea how deep the wounds are and how impossibly much in hurts. Cassie fits the profile : abandonment issues, sucking you out loneliness, severe lashing out episodes, vulnerability and feeling that you cannot be loved, so you stick to anyone who gives you a little attention. Also dysfunctional relationships. I have so much empathy for her. Poor girl

I never hated Cassie I felt sorry for her. She’s literally driving herself insane over a guy who is fucking with her (mentally and emotionally) and using her for sex and revenge because he’s a narcissistic psychopath. And she’s so affection and attention deprived that she soaks it up and mistakes it for genuine love and care. I think the reason so many people found this show fascinating is because they know a Cassie in real life. And because it’s morbidly fascinating to watch someone emotionally and mentally self-destruct because it makes them feel better about themselves and their own problems. This show is fascinating and a psychology goldmine. I could sit for hours and analyze the characters and why they do what they do 😂😂😂

I love this show because I feel a kindred spirit to this character. Not knowing her potential, following/being best friends with Maddie. People react to “events,” in their way. Having big boobs in the moment, being an “out,” for deviant characters, and just wanted people to l i k e me. Have a great relationship with my dad, and couldn’t say no to ppl. Wanting people’s attention that were clearly passively aggressive narcissistic. (They’re the victim for me existing) I just hope, that people see, that people come from different lives, and try to understand why they do that, rather than just criticizing and assuming weak characters.

I dont watch the show but cassies character seems to be one sho judges herself and puts a ton of pressure on herself. Small critisizms or minimal questioning or peoples own personal pettiness completely emotionally destryos her because really shes the only one taking whats happening so seriously. She feels like shes being accused constantly bcause she accuses herself constantly, she feels judged constantly because shes judging herself constantly. Subjects that people take casually or as fun drama or a way to feel self righteous, things that people dont get or dont take seriously or simply have an emotional or political adgenda for, she takes emotially and mentally seriously. I identify with Cassie very much but i stay silent rather than scream and i overthink rather than impulsively do and i mask, lie or simply act like i dont care and sometimes cop an attitude so people will fck off instead of screaming and telling them "the truth". Instead of desperately trying to get peopl to understand i simply isolate and condecend because its considered more socially normal and acceptable. Some moments everyone and everything just reminds you of how "shitty" you are and theyll never get it because its a mix of irrational and purely being heavily misunderstood.

But, he still wanted me to write him letters, and comfort his alcoholic nights, and sleep with me when he was home for holidays. He disrespected me on the phone one drunken night. Said i would always be there for him to sleep with. The veil was lifted. I hung up the phone. Blocked him. And burned my keepsakes and memories. He could've strung me along for a much longer time if he was smarter and self aware. Cassie is my favourite character, she did a terrible thing to Maddie but the character development is a work of art, and how the actress portrays her is amazing. She did a terrible thing but the worst people in the show are her sister and her mother and of course her absent father. You can see why she's so desperate to have Nate's validation and sense of belonging to someone. Right there her sister is humiliating her in front of everyone and her mother is clapping and then defending her sister. Because she's her favourite and doesn't even try to hide it. So she feels she has two options: stay being Maddie's friend, where Maddie is a queen B and she's a follower, or follow Nate who makes her feel like a main character. Yes he mistreats her and that's why when he gives her a bit of validation feels more important and satisfying than any other relationship in her life. People don't seem to realize that Rue is not the only addict in this show, Cassie will do whatever she needs to in order to get her drug
