I think the most amazing use of this robot will be to find a way to attach it as a prosthetic to a person with no legs, it looks really stable and self balanced, smart living like motion, very ergonomic, small for all the features it holds and looks very futuristic, I can't wait to see Cassie in a movie.

That was my first thought when I've seen it: "Are there any comments about Metal Gear"? It's pretty close to Metal Gear Walker from MGSV, though, and might work if upscaled properly. Also, it can give support to handicapped people in the way like Huey's servo-legs in MGSV. I'm really hoping that instead of weaponizing robots Metal Gear-style humanity will wisely choose to use them to help people outside of military industry.

I can't help but think this is a massive stepping-stone towards giving people back the use of their legs. People seem focused on exo-suits, or prosthetics - which are absolutely wonderful, but if there is a system for taking care of complex tasks such as quickly rebalancing when something unexpected happens, it would become much more useful.
@KanalZaZabavu7 жыл бұрын
OK, why is it important for a robot to have only two legs to eventually check if there are people in a building that is in fire? For that purpose there are so much better solutions than two-legged robots, but if (when) this gets better people who lost their legs could be again on their own feet and that is promising. Keep up the good work :)

If anyone has ever played the 1995 video game "VECTORMAN", there is a robot that looks exactly like cassie in it. Its called "legs". It, with its two legs and no head, does a backflip while its trying to target you with some type of plasma ball. The resemblance is sooo close that if its possible to copyright a video game design that makes it to the real world, somebody might be in trouble. Wish I could link a picture. "Legs" is cassie doing the movement and the Boston Dynamics "Atlas" robot doing the backflips. Sci-fi gets it right again. Game takes place in 2085 :).

and add hands
@Lodosswar1007 жыл бұрын
Not a good idea, bigger feet are heavier which slows the response time and increases the energy requirement. It works well in nature because of weight to power ratios and the amazingly complex structure of feet and hands provides an incredible amount of articulation and minute balance options. Eventually robots may end up with complex feet but for now the technology is not really there to make them worth equipping. A large foot surface would actually require an increase in size in the hip articulation to compensate for the larger available surface area and increase the overall size of the bot. Little pointy nubs are just as good and most of the time significantly better for low articulating systems as they require smaller and less stable points of contact with the ground to keep the system upright.

so...in an attempt to start a conversation as apposed to freaking out about the end of the world. these guys and the guys from Boston dynamics must have an aim to put these machines into space. they seem like the next logical step to the mars rover's and such like. plus, the natural progression towards making our lives easier is always going to be a thing weather we like it or not, for example, the mobile phone is already replacing our short term memory and our concept of distance and time has been changed forever in under 70 years thanks to flight and around a 100 years thanks to cars, so we will adapt regardless of the angry mob with pitchforks shouting about how many horses have been put out of jobs, i doubt many people even acknowledge the fact that 90% of our cars are built by robots and have been for decades...they haven't risen up and squashed their evil human overlords (got to love sci-fi in its purest form) anyhoo. embrace this stuff people or your fear will drive you mad, if the ultimate goal is to give us a life of relaxation, free time and time to enjoy our short lives, then bring it on. AI intelligence is HIGHLY overrated. We don't even know how our own brains work. Until then, it is just a larger and more complex (and more bug prone)....software program. Limited by OUR limitations and the inability to do anything more than execute a lot of simple instructions quickly and even in parallel to some extent. But the ability to feel, have intuition, eureka moments in solving tough math/engineering problems...will NEVER be bestowed upon AI based brains. Never. Because the human brain is not just self-contained. It is also a receiver. And nobody knows where/how "transmissions" that our brains pick up...originate. We don't even understand our own reality.
@Lodosswar1007 жыл бұрын
While the satire is understood, if I knew that there were nearly infinite copies of my persona and body, what would be the motivation for self preservation. A logical AI would see its self as abundant and easily copied and would certainly see a unique and finite object such as a human as more valuable than its easily recreated body and digitally preserved mind. It would therefore only make sense to risk its own body to preserve that which can not be easily replaced.
