So let me get this straight... the brands saw everyone pivoting to pre-loved because of shoddy quality and exorbitant pricing, decided it was a vintage/nostalgia thing, and relaunched the old favourites to catch the trend. Even though the same shoddy quality and exorbitant pricing persists.... reality check, aisle 2 😂

I once read that in times of financial hardship and recession, we turn to nostalgia. I wasn’t a massive fan of 90s style bags at the time (plus I was a student in that decade so couldn’t afford them), but am celebrating the return of 90s baggy jeans 👏🏼

I think brands are also trying to establish “classic” lines, relaunching styles from the past emphasizes the “timelessness” of the bags and thus solidifying the classic status.

Great video Cassie! I think that what we are seeing is a lack of creativity in all art forms (architecture, fashion design, movies, entertainers, etc) so we are returning to when art made us feel something, all of this, in addition to the great quality of vintage items.

Not for nothing... I've recently bought 2 vintage Louisv Vuitton Canvas items from Ebay for like $100 each and just made sure the exterior canvas was immaculate. Then I went to LV and told them they were passed down to me and paid them to completely gut and replace the insides. Per item, I pay a total of $400ish bucks. Sure, I could pay $600-700 for something comparable brand new from the boutique, but 1) the styles I bought are 40+ years old and discontinued and the new styles dont interest me but 2) my biggest reason is that the Canvas LV used back them is DURABLE. It literally is 40 years old and looks stunning. Meanwhile the new canvas is more matte and feels more like a supple dry leather (even though its clearly not). I will continue buying ebay vintage and paying LV to repair them.

Agreed! I love to find the vintage pieces because they're different and stand out, while still being on trend and in style. Plus, there's usually a significant savings and I'm not as careful with it and tend to enjoy the item more than I do new pieces. I tend to try to keep new items in good condition, and I know I should just use them. But a pre-loved item (even in excellent condition) is different for me, and that's just my weird thinking. I know there shouldn't really be a difference🤣

I have thoughts about this. While it can feel uncreative and lazy that these brands are putting out rejigged archive pieces, I do think there's an art form to knowing which archive style to pick. Not every reedition bag sells equally well. Also, while I love pre-loved/vintage in theory, I have to say that the uncertainty of where some of these pieces come from puts me off. Yes, there are many safeguards in place now to ensure authenticity, but between Tamara sharing that she found some of her stolen bags on the preloved market and someone stealing a Louis Vuitton bag out of my dying grandmother's apartment at the care home that's presumably now being sold somewhere, I feel a bit gross about pre-loved at the moment.

The target audience is around 18 and 40s, these are the groups setting the trends and spending the most money. With that said, this is new to half of that crowd but nostalgic to the other. I think being at an age where we notice that the trend is making a wrap around is why it bothers us more. Our parents talked about re-released styles all the time.

I feel like the success of the Saddle by Dior created that trend and actually inspired the designers studios to continue with the formula. It's difficult to create a new, fresh or successful bag. It's also difficult to create a story-telling for a bag that is not necessarily creative or just "there". I don't know if the reissue bags Prada has released over the years were that successful in 1995 or the early 00's, but by re-releasing those bags, they can build a romanticized story-telling around them. I think with Phoebe at Celine, there was a new wave of experimentations in bags. Loewe, Vuitton, Dior, Chanel and more have created or at least tried to introduce new models of bags in the 2010's. MGC broke that phase. Now, every brand is going backwards. Even Marc Jacobs tried to revive the Stam bag.

Actually I am more inclined to buy these reissued designs than a totally new style in the market. Feels like they are truly classics of the fashion houses and will be here to stay. For example, I don't see why LV capuchine is worth the price they ask for. There's no story nor vintage to justify the style.. I rather spend lesser on a Fendi Baguette. Just my opinion.

It’s the same for music, they just keep remaking songs that we grew up with because they can’t come up with their own stuff. There are so many creative Indie designers that could literally bring life to any of these brands, and they refuse to hire them but they’ll steal their ideas. I left a comment on Super Dacob’s channel that it would’ve been better if they just kept some of these pieces in their line for a few decades, same, classic colors may be a new color every season as a limited edition, but that’s how you create loyalty, demand, and longevity. But no, they want to come up with new stuff that they end up having overstock up because nobody bought it cause nobody likes it because it wasn’t pretty in the first place and only a few people that are easily influenced bought it. The vintage items they are reissuing should’ve been in the line the whole time anyway. They need to bring back the Louis Vuitton cabas line and add a mini for the tbe fans. I only buy vintage now, I don’t think the price of anything is worth it anymore. Even if I had disposable income like that, I would honestly build little homes for homeless people, buy land for the future. I would be investing that money I would not be giving it to these brands that are literally ripping us off. And I have over 120 designer bags. I just don’t like being taken advantage of. I’ll still buy scarves shoes, perfume accessories, but not the bags. Not anymore. I’ll wait two or three years when they’re on the Preloved market for like half price I can handle delayed gratification.

I don't think it's lazy...for me it's nostalgic. when a lot of these collections dropped back in the early 2000's most of us were still in high school with out a job. in a way these companeys are letting us relive our high school dreams 🤣

I actually like the relaunch of these vintage bags. To me it reinforces a that some bags are classic. I think if it comes back at least once then it’s considered either a revived trend or a classic. I see the Chanel Kelly as a classic tbh. I think it’s good for circular fashion to bring more attention to vintage old things. I don’t feel as much pressure to buy the newest hot thing now. I think it’s clear how fast the fashion cycles have become with all these million diff trends flying around and honestly I like it! It means more than ever ppl can wear whatever style/era of things they want.

Honestly, maybe the world doesn't need obsessive new anything thirty-two times a year? Maybe less things need to be made, but they need to be well made. Eye on the quality. Creativity needs quiet, needs time, needs pause. How many collections are being put out every year? A designer sends out their first collection and the world either crowns or decimates them...I mean, can we just STOP and breathe in fashion? And allow others the same? Sorry. Personally I am not a huge fan of re- releases, if it’s a style that works then it’s an evergreen that it should be in the collection season after season even after decades so the consumer knows they are buying a classic ( period ) and it would be repairable if that day does come. If it is a seasonal item then there is the joy of the hunt in the second hand market, there is no shame in that.

I think main difference in concept of buying vintage versus original is "the authenticity". It's like choosing do you want the real Louis XVI chair from 18th century or one "reproduced" today. Maybe nostalgia for a certain period is more than a nostalgia for the "it product", maybe it is a nostalgia of certain way of doing things back then that fashion now has lost. This "value" of vintage pieces as a souvenir of lost values of fashion industry is never considered and it is certainly not going to be satiated with act of buying a re edition of the it bag. So, dear fashion industry, back to the drawing board and think again.

I find the re-editions look a bit more plastic-y than the OG. It loses all the character so I'd definitely buy the vintage.

But the two bags are not the same. They may look the same, that is just a front. They are not the same bag. The vintage Chanel Kelly is a far superior bag than the new one, so its still worth buying the vintage one.

Why come out with a new bag? So many styles have been done now and times are gone when new bags didnt come out so often. Plus if laziness can win then why not. Plus cutting corners in this industry is nothing new. Why not cut corners with having new ideas? Plus most sequels are rubbish. But hey as long as people keep buying then nothing will change.

“oOHhWeeeehh wHaT DId we do in ThE EaRLY 2000s.” 😂😂😂 definitely lazy dressed up as minimalism. Obviously nothing wrong with that aesthic, just don’t like corporations persuade you into believing that you actually enjoy or want that aesthetic part of your wardrobe. EDIT: moral of the video, be inspired by trends not driven by them :)

I think designers lack respect for buyers. Yawn....Put out whatever... She will buy it. It's kinda like that boyfriend who knows he has his girlfriend wrapped. He doesn't try as hard. He doesn't have to. She turns herself inside out for him. Buyers of luxury items are viewed the same way.

😂 ugh bring back the roaring 20s fashion with a modern 2020s twist…..I’ll line up for that!! NOT 90s lol gross Yes, lately, fashion isn’t really captivating at all, as you said Cassie, they’re being lazy and not coming up with authentic ideas, maybe a solution could be a fashion house taking in a top class film / tv costume designer who’d shake things up a bit. If I was 90 yrs old what fashion would I reminisce and miss??! lol nothing really…sweats? Denim? That’s it and that’s sad lol I love good old 20/30/40s styles, it was classy and chic. I wear leather gloves now when I go out….ppl give me looks but some are intrigued too. Let’s start a revolution!

Why is everyone such a fan of Ferragako. They were such a dead brand as of a few years ago. They were always such an old ladies brand and they come out with one kinda ugly square 80s style box bag in flashy colors and everyone is gung ho about it

A sucker is born every minute so the saying goes. Please explain why you would spend $$$ on bags worth at best $50? Is it because you feel that it says “I can afford this bag and you can’t?” Explain please.
