Thank so much for these explanations. Not only do they make me (and a few others) blow milk out of our noses, but it’s kinda nice that you make us all feel like friends. I find when I watch movies these days, a voice comes twanging in my head like a banjo playing hound on a front porch. I smile just a little bit more.

I always hated how she gave up so easily on him. If you do the movie math, she had moved on rather quickly for someone who was obsessed with finding her man. To me, it would make more sense if he was gone longer or if she had just stayed single. Of course, that doesn't make for a dramatic climax, so I get it. Suspension of disbelief was a challenge in this movie.

Remember in the story, she kept trying to tell everyone he was alive. They all told her to let him go. The crash in itself would have left no survivors but he lived.

Seems perfectly reasonable to me. The odds of still being alive after a plane crash in the ocean with no sign of survivors after a few months is really, really, really close to zero. Let alone four years.

I realize that I'm doing a "what would I do in this scenario?" because even if I got to the point where I was ready to accept that he was dead and began to move on, at the 4-year mark when he came back, I would maybe be dating or even engaged. So from a personal perspective, marrying someone else and having a baby who seemed at least a year old took up most of that 4 years and that's rather fast to move on from the love of your life. I still like the movie as it executes love, hope, loss, and moving on very well.

In her defense, her friends & family kept saying he was dead and to move on. After four months, she was worn down and did go on a date with the dentist. He was on the island for 4 years,she married the dentist after 2.
