Thanks. I need to install a step into a cast iron tub. It's good to see it done.

Just did this myself. Angle grinder for the base. Sawzall carbide Diablo metal demon for the sides. Sledge hammer was making the home's bones shake and unnecessary trauma to the surrounding parts of the bathroom, and exterior walls.

Needed this video- no nonsense demonstration of your work. My angle grinder is currently MIA in the shop, so trying to work with what I have on hand. Wondering your take on a 3" pneumatic cutoff with diamond wheel to make entry points for a sawzall. A 3" exclusively I would think would be as slow as using a rusty hacksaw. I've cut through some strange things like steel, quartz, granite slab, auto body panels, with just the 3" and even used my dremel LMAO on some of these things, but never cut a porcelain cast iron tub before. Its 1950s tub so a little worried about it being exceptionally brittle. Not a DIYer with death wish. Personal experience in contracting, fabricating, carpentry, masonry, auto mechanics, you name it. Generations of family business. Everyone has passed away or is no longer able to assist with such questions. Just wanted your take on my alternative plan with 3" pneumatic and a sawzall. If I find the angle grinder or can borrow on then game on.

Well, you sound pretty handy to me. My unprofessional opinion would be to stay away from the sawzall unless you're demo-ing the tub. I believe the sawzall blades are more for cutting cast iron pipes and such. As for the 3" pneumatic....it would probably work for the whole job. The issue I see would be keeping enough constant air pressure to keep the blade spinning fast enough. It might just take a bit longer than an electric 4" angle grinder. Keep me updated.

What type and brand of disk did you use in the Angle Grinder?
@brandonstorer66142 жыл бұрын
@@danward6420 I used a Rigid brand diamond metal cutting blade.

This was an awesome video, gives me confidence I can get it done. May I ask make and model of the angle grinder? I want to duplicate what you have done. :)

Thanks and I'm glad the video helped. The grinder is a 4 1/2" Chicago Electric from Harbor Freight. Very inexpensive ($10) but I've had amazing luck with them. Bigger power tools I tend to buy name brand.

I need to cut the same for our bathtub for to ease entering on my parents, we have a cast iron tub, can you please explain what exactly the tools you have used in the video? Type of grinder, the cutting disk, was it o e type did all the work or they were multi types of tools? Much appreciated

I use cheap Chicago brand 4.5" angle grinders from Harbor Freight. They last years and are less than $20. The blade was a 4.5" Rigid metal cutting diamond blade. The only other tool used was the vacuum to suck up the metal dust while grinding. It makes a huge mess.

Great video, Brandon. We've got a 1930s cast iron tub. Do you see any potential issues with one that old?

@@MrAustin61 Actually he is right. I install cut outs for a living. You don’t know what you were talking about. He is trying to help you but you put him down. That’s not right. The noise level is off the charts. The dust particles are also a very fine dust. Also I recommend a respirator should be used for cast not a mask. I install the preferred TubcuT product. Customers prefer the TubcuT appearance and and quality and are willing to pay the extra cost for a better product. I no longer install those plastic cap types. kzbin.info/www/bejne/sHq4aWyhfrBkesksi=HIkzeTh6nS5_l5o8

You didn't show the top cut; why? Did something bad happen?
@brandonstorer6614 Жыл бұрын
I wasn't running the camera, and did you see anything "bad" with the top cut? Did you see any fingers lying around or big chunks of tub missing? I see two nice straight cut lines and a solid piece of cast iron being removed from the tub.
@mattfoley6082 Жыл бұрын
@@brandonstorer6614 Yeah, it looks good but why didn't you show it being cut?
