What I learned from your video is that it's probably best to hire a professional. I'm pretty sure I could do this myself, but it would take me MONTHS!. I really enjoyed watching your processes, and now know why you get $4500 a week for labor. Good Job!! ...I"m sure this home owner was extremely happy.
@JAlexanderCurtis4 ай бұрын
I did this myself in my last house and it turned out great. But like you said it took me 6 full weekends and I was so sick of the project by the end and canceled the recessed soap dish because I was afraid it would cost me another weekend. I also abandoned adding a power vent which was planned (it had a window, so never had a vent), for the same reason. It also cost me a lot more money than we planned for because I had to rent a wet tile saw for so many weeks that we eventually just bought it. We also ended up buying a carpet blower to ventilate the bathroom during all these weeks. Plus several random smaller tools like tile nippers, tons of grout tools and plumbing tools. In the end it was no longer fun, the wife was anxious to get the bathroom back, and I was desperate to finish it. It turned out good in the end, we enjoyed it and it was a big selling point and added a ton of value to the home. The buyers specifically mentioned it as a motivation. But I always said I wish I had I just hired it out. I think it would have been cheaper in the long run (or at least really close) plus it would have been done much faster and wouldn’t have lost 2 months of my weekend freedom.

Bought my first home recently and the bathroom renovations have been the trickiest part. A lot of plumbers don't want to travel far and fewer still have the combined skill set to do full bathroom suites, plus the quotes I've been given vary so wildly! Thanks for sharing the end to end process, it really gives me a better appreciation for what's involved!
@jby382Ай бұрын
I am wrapping up a full down-to-the-studs bathroom renovation for which this video was my primary how-to resource. First, I want to say THANK YOU for giving me the confidence to tackle this project myself. In case it's helpful, I'll add a few reflections of your video given my hindsight: - My total build time: just over a month (and still going with the finishes). In this way, this video makes it look easier than it actually is. These guys are two pros working together, as a solo DIYer I took it nice and slow. - I completely underestimated how annoying sanding would be. For any DIYers, I recommend not using a random orbital sander. It makes a huge mess. If you don't have a need for the nicer tool they use here, I'd recommend a hand screen sander with a shop vac connection. - A real skill is mixing cement to the right consistency for the task at hand. For the waterproofing, I much preferred a wetter mix. For tiling, a thicker mix was much easier to work with. My biggest imperfections came down to having things protruding in weird ways because of the kerdi banding + thick cement. Trying to correct for these imperfections after they are made is a huge headache. - I was working with penny tile floors, which takes a serious amount of grout. For the walls I used ~2x8 subway tile. The trick with those was getting a flush surface and understanding how to manipulate spacing to get things level. For this area, I relied heavily on TileCoach here on YT. - I went with a curbed shower rather than curbless. There are some unique considerations with that, but in many ways it's easier not having to get the whole floor level. - Because my floor tile was not perfectly level where they met the wall, I decided to start my small format wall tile about 1/3 of the way up the wall somewhere where I could mark a level line. I then supported the tile on this level line with a scrap piece of wood. I picked this line so that I had a whole number of full subway tiles coming down from the ceiling (7 tiles down) and still have a full trowel's worth of workspace beneath it. This meant I only had to make custom cuts for the wall tile adjoining the floor, which I would have had to make custom cuts for anyway since it wasn't level to begin with. Anyway, maybe someone will see this who is in my shoes and find it useful. Thanks again, I'm sure this video took a lot of care and effort to produce, and it saved me thousands of dollars. Literally 90% of my fuzziness was clarified by this. Y'all rock!

I was just trying to get an idea of where to start (there's no easy answer to that for a beginner i dont think) and i just sat and watched this entire two hour video. I have ADHD, and I consistently cannot make it through informational videos due to boredom, but you explain things in a very digestible way. Its this perfect middle of casually using trade terms but then explaining them to the layman, not over nor under explaining what you are doing. This really helped me get a grasp on the different facets of what goes into a bathroom remodel, im sure I'll look at more of your videos for help in the future. Thank you for sharing!

I'm in a similar boat. I definitely want to do this and it seems overwhelming. But watch a few different KZbin creators and take one bite at a time. If this takes 2 months, working one Saturday at a time, no big deal. You gotta take it in bites. But once you do it, you'll feel way more confident to take on other projects and you'll find that it's not as bad as you think. It's just tedious hard work, as is most things that people pay other people to do. A lot like working on your own car. Scary at first, but eventually it just becomes "research and do it".

It's so interesting to see how this kinda stuff gets done. I'm a homeowner so just kinda like seeing what has to happen to do projects like this and it's helpful in understanding what's going on in your walls and just how difficult some these projects can before you potentially take one on. I appreciate you sharing!

I was a trainer for an unnamed competitor of Big Orange that folded with a thud when the HD moved in nationally. So 1990ish. We were inept as a company, but we used the best and latest materials on the market at the time. Time Stamp? Durock was the new kid on the block. It started a change in the tile/bath industry that still hasn't slowed down any and am pleased as punch to have someone taking the time to go through what you do and the ever popular--why you do what you do. It's the trick to training adults. If you can't answer that question, you would have just lost your students. We need to Associate new information to that we already know to click the new stuff in and lock it down in our memories. Now you have thoughtfully laid this video out where I could stumble on it, which I appreciate! I've got the same sort of set up in my main bathroom that you ripped out and replaced. As much as I wanted a damless shower, I had about talked myself out of it as a budget killer. I would have to settle for a prefab with a small dam and prefab panels instead of ceramic. On the whole a small plus to having to pull in my horns with my dreams, I'd be rid of a discolored acrylic tub. But that's a Lot of work for not much to make me smile. Well, doggone & heck! I've got a big ol' wheelbarrow stuffed full of logic, stealing tricks that took you, I am sure, more than a little amount of time and experience to glean working the mud and tile often. Better yet, I am already scheming about who in the development might have a wet saw...Cheers and thanks for a great video. I mess a little with video and training filming and folks have no idea how difficult it can be sometimes to communicate in timed words, and gestures on camera, and how sometimes that can take the longest time for some of the dumbest reasons--so major kudos!🏚

One of Benjamin Moore most successful colors, Revere Pewter. It’s a Greige. Gray beige. The builder uses all Sherwin Williams when they painted my house during the build. I’m usually a Sherwin fan, but, I really loved this Revere Pewter.

Another awesome bathroom renovation! Nice sliding glass door which is different from the typical swinging glass door done in previous renovation jobs. While I understand that the bottom track doesn't make it a "true" curbless shower design, it does keep the door on a track without risking it swinging and falling off the upper track.

Awesome job. You got a sub for your attention to detail. Not many people impress me on this. Not to mention your pants look like mine! Just an FYI for those in the US, a quick search says that code requires a minimum of a 2" drain UNLESS the Single shower head puts out 2.0GPM or less. Since you had multiple heads, it is most likely not up to code anywhere in the US. It definitely isn't in FL, MI or CA. I like the idea of using an old piece of tile as a heat shield. Also, I haven't seen the exhaust fan mount, pretty cool.

I recommend putting tiles on the roof of the shower as well. I had plenty of accidents with the handheld slipping off my hand and splashing the roof of the shower on its way down. It's a pain to have to get a ladder to the second floor just to wipe the water off the drywall.
