Cast of Aladdin performs 'Friend Like Me' and "A Whole New World" on Good Morning America!

Your broadway wish has arrived! The cast of Aladdin performed two songs including "A Whole New World" and "Friend Like Me" on Good Morning America live at 8:45am EST.
Aladdin, the hit musical based on the Academy Award®-winning animated film, opened on Broadway to critical acclaim at the New Amsterdam Theatre on March 20, 2014 and quickly established itself as one of the biggest new blockbusters in recent years, breaking 14 New Amsterdam Theatre house records. I was lucky to see the show in July of 2015 with most of the Original Broadway cast minus the original Babkak, Sultan and Jafar (I was a little disappointed in that cause I really REALLY wanted to see Jonathan freeman’s Jafar voice live but whatever haha) and I loved it and this current cast I haven’t seen them live but they all sound great

I saw this on Sunday in NYC and it was awesome! I had seen it years ago when it was the original cast, and it was good then too, but a little better this time for some reason. I agree the new Aladdin looks more like the cartoon Aladdin. The sidekick characters were funnier too than I remember.

I appreciate Disney giving two people of Indian origin a chance to represent not just India but South Asia as a whole through Aladdin, but I think Aladdin and Jasmine are roles which should go to Arab origin people, which they haven't till now (in my information, let me know if I am wrong). Aladdin is a story set in the Arab world, and I think it is high time Arabs get those roles. Indians on the other hand deserve a story of their own to be told, maybe The Jungle Book or something new, we cannot and should not be content just by getting roles of other ethnicities.

I don't understand why they didn't use the Broadway cast. Will Smith was terribly cast and if he was allowed to do will Smith like rapping in fresh prince, maybe it would have worked but James Monroe iglehart was killer so why change it with an a lister with no musical experience

Not only is the musical much more true to the animated original film, but it even has a song that had to be removed from the animated film during production! So in some ways, the Broadway musical is just as close to the original film as the film itself! I highly recommend seeing this musical on Broadway, I honestly can’t recommend it enough!!!!
