I took a group of Indian friends to a Sri Lankan restaurant, they were condescending/sneering towards the waiters’ dark skin tones and mocked the Tamil language. For every western racist taunt to a North Indian, they are 10 fold equivalent examples of North Indian slurs towards South Indians and Sri Lankans. Let us not always blame the West and instead review the East’s internal affairs. And…in another sketch on Goodness Gracious me, Sanjeev Baskar mocks South Indians for their black skin. 30 years later he is praising Kamala Harris (Tamil) as an Indian who has got to the top of US politics…

@@seekerdroid I find it interesting because I'm American and I get it. The basis of this joke isn't specific to the UK, it's a joke about racist people (this racism comes from ignorance though not out of intentional ill will) and how they act in foreign restaurants. You get all the tropes here, from insisting they know the "proper" way to say things (even after being corrected), being really arrogant about things, trying to "prove" themselves by ordering the most extreme thing on the menu, making racial comments about the people working there, etc. This is taking that and putting the UK spin on it (drunk British people in an Indian restaurant) and flipping the tables (drunk Indian people in a British restaurant).
