dude I am so appreciative that you applied your knowledge and passion into something like this channel and HP Academy. This interview (as well as all your other ones) are absolutely brilliant and filled with information not available outside of a combination of engineering classes plus industry experience. I am a software engineer so these topics don't often fall into something relevant to my career, but you bring the kind of information I would have never been able to learn elsewhere to me and so many others with these videos! Thank you :)

Hate to dogpile on the praise but you’re doing great interviews. Andre is doing all the work here. He’s talking the talk with david and then translating it into people speak quickly. The video is paced well and I don’t feel the need to bump playback to 1.5x-1.75x. Thanks for the content!

Great discussion. Just about the perfect level of detail without diving into jargon and esoterica that would confuse laymen like me. 3D printed blocks in 2019, what a time to be alive. 👍 At the rate of progress, it won't be long until we get to see a complete 3D printed engine. Pistons, valves, crank, even an exhaust and turbo capable of handling that heat. 😳

Mountie's not actually saying they used printed blocks, but that they can use 3D printed cores for many areas. The core is what the block is cast around. You could almost describe it as a negative, with the finished casting being the positive. I'm no expert in the matter, but I can't see a printed block being anywhere near strong enough for actual use.
@MafiaboysWorld5 жыл бұрын
@@rogerking7258 You're totally right with that breakdown, hence why I mentioned the rate of progress being so rapid that fully functional 3D printed blocks that can handle the cylinder pressures that are mass produced won't be far away. My mindset is that you could use it to manufacture a monoblock design for ultimate head sealing. 👍
@Thee_Snow_Wolf5 жыл бұрын
I think 3d printed engines have already been made before. I think it was called the "polyengine 2" . Edit - it's called the "Polimotor 2". Unfortunately the project seems to be dead. Although another Polimotor successful competed in an American racing series in the 80s I think.

Super interesting! One of my favorite videos yet. Also makes me wonder why IAG doesn't re-make the Subaru EJ25 engine but with a semi-closed deck and other improvements. They could even use a higher grade material since these engines will be used in high performance settings. They have pumped out literally thousands of modified stock blocks with the deck insert conversion, more than 100 times more units than what this video says is the breaking point. Seems like they would have benefited from going with their own upgraded casting LONG ago

I was waiting for someone to bring this up! All the tensile loads being carried by a material specifically rated for tension, resulting in super-light cylinder blocks that are a comfy one-armed lift...? I have no issue with that. There’s nothing new under the sun. Really interesting top notch video though - all it says to me is the longbolt Rover thing was as advanced as it was claimed. Just a shame it was ruined by poor build quality. I’ve got three engines - the waterways in the heads on two were cast shut on the exhaust side. Only takes 5 minutes to open with a die grinder; I wonder how many heads failed as a result of that one slip up...?

"So there are a couple of things that I wanna go back and unpack". That attitude of your's to your videos,, where you catch on to every single thing that the interviewee says and tries to unpack it for us noobs in the simplest of ways is what makes you really stand out from every other KZbinr. It really is difficult to be an expert in your filed and then also know what your viewers may not be aware of.
