The great thing about jazz drummers is that they know how to keep the volume down. Playing with rock drummers, as the song goes on, it gets louder and louder because you're trying to not be over-powered. Rock drummers don't understand that they are part of the rhythm section.

--Cast Your Fate is ''my song'' --listened to it all my life (off and on of course), and tho many artists have covered it, only two or three really lift off with it. Vince himself, natch, and George Winston. Maybe David Benoit, tho he gets out there a ways and doesn't stay in character. You do! Yours is up there --it isn't the bittersweet tone of the Guaraldi trio or the austere soloist Winston --yours is brighter --but it's really good --really good. Like the sad feller has bottomed out the regret and has just decided to hell with it and thrown open the window shades --he's gonna quit looking back, he's gonna try again!
