Former Olympic and World Champion, Caster Semenya, explains the unexpected benefits she has seen from the leak of her personal information (regarding gender testing by the IAAF) and the questioning of her gender - all of which served to strengthen her belief in herself.
Ms Semenya also reveals the reality of the drugs she was forced to take in order to compete in athletics and the many serious warnings she had from her doctors about the risks from taking those drugs.
She tells Oxford Union Librarian, Sebastian Watkins, how her attitude turned each of these challenges into a positive and how she does not feel robbed of any victories due to her experiences.

ABOUT THE OXFORD UNION SOCIETY: The Oxford Union is the world's most prestigious debating society, with an unparalleled reputation for bringing international guests and speakers to Oxford. Since 1823, the Union has been promoting debate and discussion not just in Oxford University, but across the globe.
The Oxford Union is deeply grateful and encouraged by the messages of support in response to our determination to uphold free speech. During our 200 year history, many have tried to shut us down. As the effects of self-imposed censorship on university campuses, social media and the arts show no signs of dissipating, the importance of upholding free speech remains as critical today as it did when we were founded in 1823. Your support is critical in enabling The Oxford Union to continue its mission without interruption and without interference. You can support the Oxford Union here: oxford-union.o...

Interesting interview. One of the highlight's for me was Caster's lack of understanding why women's sports is regulated.

I watched the 15 minutes highlight clip. My brain would have a hard time watching 40 minutes of the terrible arguments of this man. Does anyone in the audience challenge this man? Are they too scared? Does anyone ask a question that reveals some respect of women and women's sports. This misogynistic man deserves at least one tough question.

Caster, a misogynist male, has no human right to compete against female athletes. He deserves what he has been through after he discovered conclusively that he was male. Again, Caster discovered, with evidence that he is male. He has no womb. He has no ovaries. He has testes. He has 5a-reductase-2, a condition that only affects males. And, despite this discovery, he decided to live in denial and promote misogyny and abuse towards female athletes. I feel compassion for him, but he has been completely inappropriate and immature. He is a powerful voice for denial.

I understand that it is probably very hard for him to accept that he is a man. He grew up genuinely believing that he was a woman. Growing up believing that you are female and then to be told later that you are male I am sure must be very confusing and distressing. However, I agree with the person above who mentioned that his lack of understanding as to why men are excluded from women's sports shows a real lack of thought or consideration of the subject.. Then at the end, where he says, _"treat women with respect and let them make their own decisions on what they think is best for womens sport"_ he really doesn't seem to understand that this is what most women in sport want and that they also want men kept out of women's sport

Your second paragraph is wonderful. The majority of women do not want Caster, a male, competing in the women's category. For him to pretend women are being given the power to comprehensively do what they want, which is banning men from women's sports, is incredibly disrespectful.

In his own words, he has described how he would avoid chores with his sisters and would run away and play football with the boys. He described girls in derogatory terms. I doubt he was upset at realising he was a boy.

@RichardEnglander You need to learn that we are dealing with a human being here. Caster has not had an easy experience over things that she had no control over, and you, with all your wickedness, just refuse to be amongst these that will try to help her heal. You enjoy seeing her in pain. Shame on you, I feel for your parents, you probably never cared for them
