Bought a vsx200 brand new. Within 3 weeks it was fully locked up and had to go in for warranty work. They replaced basically everything inside. The next time fishing the bearing in the line roller went bad and had to be replaced.

Well no matter how expensive the reel are you still need to care for it. Wash your reels with fresh water and clean it after you’re done using it.

Some downsides to that engineering too but i sure do love mine in the surf. It wouldn't be my first choice on my boat but in the surf its unbeatable.

I've always thought it would be nice to get one of the new VS ones but after buying a fly reel right before or maybe during the sale many years ago (didn't realize it was being sold when purchased expensive fly reel) . Needed service of never used fly reel as was missing rods of bearing from new and the new VS owner told be to f.... Off they were not going to fu...ing bother to stock and service items they dont have a market for. Recently I keep getting these van Staal recommendations in my YT I presume because I was searching for baikess Penn slammer over a year ago and not since,

I wouldn’t get a Van Staal, mine broke and was at the service department for 3-4 months. Penn Slammer or Spinfisher VI’s are the best value right now in my opinion.

@@CastFromTheHip yeah I really like my slammers and less so spinfishers though still quite a bit. I've had some hit or miss (2/3 with issues) with bad clash II though... Haven't tried to open them but came really clunky like bad teeth and didn't get to return in time. Guess when I need a new VS type I'll probably get the bailess slammer I've been more into baitcasters for the size I'd use slammers lately. From My Daiwa luna steez and zillion to Shimano Calcutta and conquest and then on down to piscifun alijos and alloy m they have all been flawless with no service other than diy maintenence.

@lurefishing24 I absolutely hate the saragosa. They killed off such a great reel series for it. Look up the 2016's Biomaster SW. Got mine from Japan in 2016. It's been dunked in the Gulf Coast, Atlantic, and Pacific Ocean. But guess what? No problems at all, I haven't ever had to take this reel apart. It's simply wonderful, and I haven't found a reel as good as it yet. Even the new Saltiga's /Stella's have some plastic bits that fail just for "weight saving."

@Shiro69420 I've heard issues with the bail roller rusting and locking up similar to the certate. I dont know for sure because I have never owned one. But look past that and they are supposedly amazing.

These are the worst reels on the market. DO NOT DO THIS. They are all cool on video, the problem if that you cannot fish with them. The line laying is horrible no matter what you do, the design is not shimmable, the drag is horrendous and comes out in batches and uneven draggings, the tool to open it is crap and strips, you need to send to US for service... These are horrible horrible horrible reels. Stay away. Get a Daiwa, a Shimano, or basically any chinese reel and you will be able to fish better.
