White portland cement is a critical component if you want to be able to make dramatic decorative concrete items. Gray Portland cement, otherwise known as ordinary Portland cement, is gray and even though it will dry to an off-white color sometimes it is it will not accept coloration the same way that white Portland cement will. If you want dramatic colors from concrete using a white Portland cement base to start your mixed design is a great idea.
One of the first projects you should try to make with a white mortar or concrete product is a simple bowl. Using a larger bowl and a smaller bowl of the same type you fill the larger with your mortar material and press the smaller Bowl into it. It couldn't be simpler right? Well as it turns out there are a few tips and tricks that will probably help you to achieve better results if you want to be pouring concrete bowls and working with white concrete.

While the concrete is curing, use a paper towel to soak up the water floating on top.

We have no white sand available in my city based on searching online & in person at main home stores. What about adding 20% white latex paint (would you need interior? exterior? flat? gloss?) which is an idea I came across some people talking about in comments on videos? I saw studies it could strengthen the concrete?? Could you use white portland cement+ regular colored sand for concrete + perlite + white paint in place of white lightning & in place of acrylic fortifier? (+ maybe some marble dust, which I heard somewhere?? that you can add to concrete)?

Hey, I've just started exploring the world of DIY concrete, and have to thank you for making these videos. They are super informative and helpful for people like me that are just starting out! I have a question, I hope you can answer: will concrete made using regular Portland cement continue to cure if completely submerged in water after the first 3 days have passed? I am trying to make heavy concrete weights that I can add to resin or plastic self-watering planters to make them heavier on the bottom.

I can see you have a lot to teach us, so very cool. I looked at your video lists and didn't see anything that matched my question, so apologies: There are many videos that show making simple things like vases or small planters, and they (appear to) use only water + white cement. no sand, no other additives. And, they mix it to such a consistency that it's liquid and pourable (like slip or a slurry), followed by sandpaper polishing under water as soon as it's removed from the mould. They look smooth and shiny and lovely.. but, is this actually usable/durable?

Could a "slurry" have been applied to the mold to help with the pitting like you did with the rubber 'face" mold you put the slurry in before?

One of your own tips for casting with concrete is to use a superplasticizer. Why did you not do that with this? Another tip was to paint a layer of slurry onto the mold. Why did you not do that?
@creatingconcrete
@creatingconcrete 7 ай бұрын
You do not always need superplasticizer, and you do not always need a slurry. The simplicity of the mold shape and the material of the mold makes it possible to get good castings without these. If I wanted more reliable finish, I would use the slurry. If I wanted a stronger, structural piece that is also high detail I would use the plasticizer.

@@creatingconcrete It looks like you did not need a slurry on the top of your lower bowl mold, but for the top surface, you might save the step of mortaring over the embarrassing Swiss cheese look by using a slurry on the bottom of the upper mold. Perhaps in your tips video you could explain why/when those tips are necessary. Modustrial Maker casts several table tops in his videos, and they always come out bubble free due to his technique.
