If you've never hooked one of the hybrids, you have no idea of how strong they are in a fight. Granted the sea run stripe in the large category will be brutal. But something about that football shaped hybrid puts them in another category. Killer video. 😎

The initial run of hybrids is unlike anything I've felt from other fresh water fish. Pretty sweet to experience. Thank you!

Thanks, it was pretty sweet to see the bigger wipers going crazy. In past years when I see them like this is it mostly white bass and smaller wipers. It's fun promoting a product that works. I'll have another video coming up in the future where these baits are featured for the entire time.

Awesome catches! Wish I can go out and cast a few. With all the heavy rain we're having all week. It's a no go. Rivers and lakes are all flooded through the woods and on farmlands. A few roads in most of the SW areas in MN here are flooded out and closed from traveling. Will have to wait.

Thanks, the water is rising here too but not as bad as it is there. It's been a crazy wet spring-early summer. Hopefully it will dry out a bit.

Wow great video! They were really smashing the surface close to shore at one point, very cool. That 9+ was a beaut! Looking forward to the next one.

Thanks, they were really using the shoreline to corner the shad. They didn't care at all that I was there. If I had a dip net at the right time I probably could have caught a few.

How can you tell the difference between a white bass and a wiper?
@BackroadsAngling5 ай бұрын
They both have a tongue patch. White bass have 1 patch and wipers have 2. This is the only way to identify them 100%. I've learned to identify them pretty well just based on appearance (wipers have very dark stripes while white bass have faint or barely there stripes and a taller body shape) but this is probably only 90% accurate.

For the first few fish I was using a whopper plopper and for the ones after that I was just using a jig head with a 3 inch swimbait.

@BackroadsAngling7 ай бұрын
That would be fun. I've actually been out on my paddle board at this same lake with the fly rod but I haven't been able to find any schools like this yet. My goal for the summer is to get some big ones on the fly.

Top water wipers are so fun but sometimes it's more effective to cast a swim bait for sure.
@BackroadsAngling7 ай бұрын
Well said. Sometimes it's a choice between getting a few awesome blowups or getting a lot of numbers with the swimbait or spoon.

This can happen at any point during the summer. The hard part is that you can't really predict when or where it is going to happen. They don't follow any schedule and I haven't noticed much of a trend with weather patterns, etc. They just randomly show up, feed and disappear just like that.

Wind still, shows a lot about where the fish spring to life early morning. Any change in barometric pressure while you were fishing for the fish moving deeper? Thought they spawning as they whirled close to the wall. Aggressive takes indeed. Well done with 9.6lb catch. Enjoyed watching. Thank you!
@BackroadsAngling7 ай бұрын
I think the shad/baitfish might be spawning up on the rocks and the wipers are taking the opportunity to corner them. Thank you for watching I always appreciate it!

They are pretty good to eat. If walleye and crappie are rated a 9.5/10 then I would rate wipers and white bass about a 7 on the eating scale. Thanks for watching!
