The real stupidity here are the thoughts that some people had that the master would never come back after the end of time. The masters' been in the show since the pertwee era, the chances that the character will be offed is as low as the chance the daleks or cybermen will be got rid off.

MasterPlaythrough I'm still hoping that is somehow true and that we will somehow see more Missy or a new version of Missy/Master.
@vullord6664 жыл бұрын
And at least it made sense here. The master was stuck on Gallifrey at the end of the time war, and was able to come back because the Doctor ended up saving Gallifrey instead of destroying it (had he chosen to destroy it the Master would have been gone forever). Comparatively speaking I’m pretty pissed that the Master came back in series 12 with no explanation or even a single reference to Missy’s incarnation. Chibnall brought the Master back WAY too soon and with no details or explanation (it’s like he just thought fans would come up with theories themselves so he didn’t have to actually bother with good writing 😩)

I just hope Michelle Gomez plays the role more frequently than say Simm did. I feel it helps believe them as the character more, its why Delgado and Ainley are remembered for the part over Pratt and Beevers (though he's great in big finish). Plus I'd love the Master to turn up in a non-finale episode for once. Lastly does anybody else want a Multi Master story with Jacobi, Simm and Gomez one day.
@solmidorez814610 жыл бұрын
That would be epic. I just don't know how Jacobi would come back, his version was terrifying but lasted all of 5 minutes. And doesn't Simm have zero interest in reprising the role (much like Eccleston)?

@vullord6664 жыл бұрын
I’m from the future, I can confirm Missy was in more episodes than just the finale and I’m super happy for it. She was in a 2 part series finale, a 2 part series opener, and had multiple appearances in series 10. I’m just a bit disappointed because I feel like had Moffat, Murray Gold, Capaldi, and everyone stayed on for longer she could have gotten more episodes as part of the main cast and TARDIS crew (like series 10 could have focused on the monks and ended with Missy having to save the Doctor; instead of that rushed ending we got. Then series 11 could have focused on Missy turning good, but confronting everything she did in the past and bringing it all home when she met her past self in the series finale and ultimately chose to stand with the Doctor though it gets her killed). I love that Moffat even brought back Simms master (a multi Master Story was a first for all of the Doctor Who if I’m not mistaken). Sad that Jacobi’s Master almost definitely won’t return to the show (though I’ve heard his audio dramas are great). One thing I definitely disliked about RTD’s era is the Master felt criminally underused. He was the plot for one series finale and that was it until the last special for RTD/10. That was such a vast contrast from the classic era and I would have loved to see such a great character in more episodes. Out of all DW, Simms was only the Master for 2 episodes and 1 2 part special (technically 4; kinda 3; really only 2 stories though). With Moffat he got another 2 parter, but still. I would have enjoyed more of him

We were told for quite some time that regeneration is a lottery. At one point, the Doctor kissed his legs because he still had them after a regen.(For a moment, he thought he was a girl at the time, too.) He also believes that one of these days, he'll be ginger. Certainly his accent has changed several times. (Although, if the Doctor ever became an American, the impression I get from the Britosphere is that would be the only regen that would be utterly unforgivable.) So, no, it wasn't unexpected for the Master to become the Mistress.

"I think it's the one they won't see coming" most people did as soon as she called herself Missy, that was my main theory and only had "Mistress" going for it as a theory so my other ones needed more explanation really. Not sure why the BBC would purposefully spoil the cybermen storyline and then make a massive deal about it being a surprise inshow though. Also, didn't really care that Danny died until Clara called him a tiny bit but that wasn't surprising either, guessed it before the episode and when he stopped talking on the phone too. If there had been more Danny instead of Clara in their relationship scenes I would have probably cared more. Like if it was Rory for the first time in that situation Loved the episode!

The drumming got stronger and stronger as the Master got closer to the point in time where it actually served its purpose, that is to say, when the Time Lords wanted him to help restore Gallifrey. Remember, they retroactively inserted it in his head on the last day of the Time War by tampering with the Untempered Schism in their past when he was looking through it. Back when he began, it was hardly noticeable even to himself (That's why there is no remark about it in the Classic Series). Now that that moment's passed, it's likely the drumming has stopped.

This doesn't make any sense, Roger Delgardo's Master was on his last regeneration then the master turned into a walking crinkle cut crisp and then took on the Anthony Ainley version of him by transfering his mind into his body. The Master has no more regenerations left! John Simm's master shouldn't exist of this female version. How can you expect the new series to continue from the old when they forget vital parts of a character's history. It's ridiculous!!

After the Doctor Who Movie, (where the Master stole yet another body), he was killed finally. Apparently the Time Lords resurrected him for the Time War, giving him a new regeneration cycle. However, the Master fled to the end of the universe and we know what happened from there.

Will we ever see a regeneration sequence from Simms to Gomez I think though that Gomez might be an earlier incarnation brought into the future
@TheSixthDoctor10 жыл бұрын
I'd actually say a direct regeneration from Simm to Gomez wouldn't work at all, because the Simm body was dying all throughout End of Time. That's why the whole "Immortality Gate" and "Master Race" plan was so important to the Master. It was once again a story where he seeked to prolong his life. If he could have just regenerated, he surely would have done so. My guess is that he's once again gone bodysnatching and that Missy's body is actually that of a nearby Time Lady that just had the misfortune of being the closest target. Maybe even one the Doctor knows. Maybe "The Woman" from EoT. Since we never learned the identity of that Time Lady (though RTD wanted her to play the part as if she was the Doctor's mother), it would be a less predictable twist that Missy is actually: The Masters Consciousness + "The Woman"'s (Romana, Susan, the Doctor's mother...) body.

I'm entirely okay with Missy being the Master. Or better: the Master being a woman. Michelle Gomez is a wonderful actress and I quite enjoyed her performance. But I really don't want a female Doctor. I think it is a part a man should play because it always was so. I'm not saying I don't like a strong female character. Not at all. But it wouldn't feel right for me. It would be like James Bond suddenly being played by an actress. Also it wouldn't fit to the previous history of Doctors. 13 regenerations (including War Doctor and 10's meta-crisis) without being a woman and then suddenly there is one? I'd rather like to see the female companions who manage to keep the Doctor under control and being smart and witty in their own way. But what about a male Doctor who feels like a woman? A transgender Doctor? I'd love to see them pulling that off.

+0304dina Honestly I don't think a female Doctor would be so bad. +Andrew Fish (Werdnae) I don't think he's misogynistic as much as he (now she) is campy and old fashion, also she basically things she's better than anyone else, time lord or not with the possible exception of the doctor since he's his friend, plus he was friends with the Rani and she's not really a old fashion gal, she will experiment on your brain while you sleep, so I think his choice is more of "bananas" type of choice.

Moffat made a TERRIBLE decision. There are hundreds of British actors who would do a much better job.

Nah, Michelle Gomez is fantastic as the Master. Great idea from Moffat.

Mathieu Leader YES! He would be so evil and Mastery. A perfect casting for a Master opposite Capaldi. Michelle Gomez removes all fear that people might have towards the Master.

Matt, King of the North Why don't we all wait until after "Death in Heaven" to say our full thoughts on Gomez's Mistress, eh? From what I've read in the spoiler free reviews, she's amazing and terrifying in the role.

Matt, King of the North Have you seen her in anything? She's one of the most underrated actresses in the UK. The Master always had an element of comedy to him and Michelle Gomez is going to nail the part.
