nice!! yeah, it doesn't matter what rod you're using, if you're catching fish and having fun, that's the point. i have yet to get into fly rods mostly because of the cost, you can get an inexpensive spin rod and some spoons, and your good to go.

Hey Andrew! I'm planning on heading to Utah around late December (Panguitch Lake). I was wondering what are the chances the lake would be frozen by around that time of year. Beautiful fish by the way, might have to add Taylor Reservoir to my bucket list!

Hey Dude!! Chances are pretty good it will be mostly if not all iced by the end of December. Really depends on the daytime highs around that time and if there are any major cold fronts. The standard is most years can be ice fishing around New Year's. The last 5 years I've been there in early December without problems it looked close to icing up each time though. A closer toward the middle of December you would be better off. But in December and generally you are right at the point where it usually will freeze. It's that time of year where it could be frozen over one day then the next day have open water. Good luck on the trip! The Taylor Reservoir is pretty cool there are some big fish in there no doubt I would suspect late in the year you would have a better shot at the bigger models. The Taylor River in October right below the reservoir is extremely good. There are some incredible fishing Waters in Colorado and 100% is worth your time. Check out the roaring Fork near Carbondale one day you won't be disappointed. If you want good Lake fishing check out Delaney buttes North and South.

Have you found that certain colors work better under different lighting conditions? I hear the bass guys always talking about dark day dark color/light day light color. Not sure if there's any truth to that.

It can make a difference depending on water clarity. If the water is super clear the color of the lure isn't as important... The action,depth,speed play more of a role. But the water is murky the right color can make all the difference in the world especially if you get cloudy and murky or choppy water and murky.
