I love that the "new" stairs are still over 400 years old. History is wonderful. 😀 Fascinating. Well done. 👏👏🙂

Thanks guys, that was a terrific look about the castle, done at my pace. You didn't miss a thing, even the sound of your boots, thank goodness you fixed them. You filmed this in the way I would have looked around in years gone by, well done and thanks again for taking me with you.

@@scoutthedoggie2002 Unfortunately no, due to ill health, age, money funds etc., I'll be staying here and keep travelling around Australia. Luckily I did heaps of castles in the UK years ago thankfully with my dear old Dad, we had so many great times. That's why I love your posts, reminds of the old days I cherish so much, thanks again, stay safe and look forward to our nest outing. Pauline

Maybe one day! I'm not keen on hearing my own voice, but others seem to like it, deep and clear with a good Scottish burr

I so agree! We can't read the signs, maybe just tell us a bit. I found the toilets in castles we saw funny. Your area hung out in the air, because the toilet was built out.the poop, etc just fell out into a moat or down the castle wall.

I love the big hearths. I would really love to see the laird’s solar and the lady of the castles day rooms. If I close my eyes, I can imagine the guards walking all around the wall walk at the top, while the laird and lady of the castle were supping the nooning in the great hall upon the dais, lol

I haven't seen you for a while. Dylan is on Christmas break from university? This was a nice walkthrough. You found a couple of the original toilets. I always wondered what people used to wipe their asses with back then. I know the Romans had slaves with sponges on a stick behind you but not here. Lol That may seem a bit odd to ask but it is just from historical perspective. Happy New Year!

I wonder if the builders of these castles had detailed plans or if they just started putting rocks together. The castles always seem to have passageways that go nowhere or windows in difficult to get at places.
@scoutthedoggie20023 жыл бұрын
I guess they must have had some vague plan or idea. I imagine there must have been times when in their old wooden hut, they polished off a few bottles of malt and scribbled some plans on the back of something 😁

Campbell is still such a popular surname, even here in the States. There's one in my lineage also. I wonder how many descendants came from that one clan!

There must have been some major work to the castle in recent times to keep the main part in such a fair state that it is in. A nice slow walk of Castle Gloom(sp).....I like the older name better. ;)

The only thing annoying me are the locked doors, not your boots. Put a glass door to view inside, it's not like the other opened areas aren't filled with crap/debris/clutter. What are they hiding?
@scoutthedoggie20023 жыл бұрын
Some of the locked doors were bits the staff use for more storage, as the castle does have a cleaner / caretaker, not a position I would want, I'm too easily spooked.

This castle is in amazing good condition. We did not tour it... I am descended from a long line of Mac Donalds. (With a bit of Alexander, Roxburgh, Cowie, Brown, Stuart, etc etc. ) The Campbell clan murdered a bunch 8f my ancesters.

I'm not interested in the views out the windows or from the top. I am interested in the architectural features and the stone work. There were some highly worked pillars and you just walked right by them! Arches, corbels, fireplaces, lintels, window surrounds that sort of stuff. I appreciate you sharing what you do though. I'm never going to be able to visit these places myself.
