On today’s episode of Homeworthy, we’re visiting Violet Manners, Founder and CEO of HeritageXplore, for a magnificent tour of Belvoir Castle in England.
For more extraordinary home tours, visit our website: homeworthy.com
On top of a hill with its fairytale-like turrets and towers, Belvoir Castle has stood for nearly a thousand years as the ancestral home of the Duke of Rutland. Growing up in the magnificent castle, where her family has lived for nearly a thousand years, Violet saw firsthand the growing interest in heritage sites - fueled by popular Regency-era hits like Bridgerton. Motivated to make these hidden gems more accessible, she created HeritageXplore, a discovery and booking service that connects history lovers with the beauty and charm of privately owned estates.
Belvoir Castle is a truly stunning English estate, rich in history and remarkable design. Enjoy!

Dear Violette, what a wonderful way you’ve presented your family home and history to us. Being part of a place like this must be a privilege and a great burden to sustain and pass on. This video was both informative and a look forward to what must be accomplished. Best wishes for you and your family’s future.

What a beautiful castle and home! I’m sure their ancestors would be so proud! I realize it’s difficult to fund such restoration projects to maintain a home of such caliber and to keep it for future generations! I hope this castle always remains this beautiful for eternity! The rooms are exquisite! I love the guard room and loved hearing about Pete. With this, I learned that Irish deer were the largest in the world! Thank you Violette for sharing your beautiful family home and heritage!

It's a very beautiful castle. But possessions can also be a burden to heat, and to maintain. It's a demanding legacy.

I love how as much as I know about castles and I can identify 100s of them. I am still pleasantly surprised how many incredible castles are out there that no one even knows about because the families kept them private.

And I will add: I feel sorry when a house or castle does not have a family to shelter. So, it a good thing this English Castle has a family!

This castle is just a big WoW! It is simply majestic and it is fascinating that she has access to her family history going so far back. I also appreciated that she seemed classy and spoke grammatically correct English which just seems rare amongst so many English people these days and that made her a pleasure to listen to without fear of what she might say.

I do love the era of the late 1800 and early 1900 the build is so significant that it’s mind boggling to me how they did it the decor certainly is over the top but it should be I so adore the history of Britain, Scotland, I can not even imagine being so fortunate to be born into such phenomenal history born into royalty how magnificent it must be I think it’s so not only important but special to know ur lineage thank u for sharing good for u for knowing so much about ur ancestors

I've seen exterior tours of Belvior online before, but to have one of the family so graciously share both history and personal stories is a wonderful treat. I'm sure Violet could host a half hour weekly series sharing more aspects of this fantastic home. I'm always heartened to learn of descendants of great lineages who feel it is their duty to maintain, restore, and share the bounty of art and history they have received. Your father digitizing the archives is such a valuable endeavor. All of the decor and collections are beautiful, and I enjoyed seeing the contrast of the state rooms and your family spaces. I believe I saw a Henry the VIII portrait in the picture gallery, but how special to see the Duchess Violet who is your namesake, there on the wall. Really enjoyable episode.

Perhaps Duchess Elizabeth's husband understood the saying 'Happy Wife Happy Life'. But perhaps after seeing what his wife created he would have let his wife do whatever she wished. It's very beautiful and I feel like a disney movie should be created just so this marvelous creation can be viewed by all.

Historic buildings need to be preserved. Too many historic homes, businesses and other buildings are left in a neglected state or torn down for new development.' Frank Lloyd Wright and other great architects buildings should be preserved. Art Deco buildings and mid century modern all have their own harm. Local historical societies and city councils need to look to preserve local history and culture.

Lady Violet mentions her mother and father -- the current Duke and Duchess of Rutland -- several times you'd think they were all one happy family. They aren't. What isn't mentioned is that her mother and father separated well over 10 years ago and both still live in separate parts of the castle with their respective longtime lovers. A far more interesting story!!!
