Hello Cliff and Diane, wonderful to see your lovely Court yard and garden. Love to see your chickens the greys are stunning as are all of them. In spite of all of the down pours we have had I have not suffered the usual amount of slugs as in past summers. Hope they enjoy the beers and leave your crops alone. Take care and have a good week. 😃🏡🐓🐤

Thanks lonegunwomen, nice to know someone didn't have a slug problem, Its been one of the worst season for a long time. Luckily we have hot and dry weather It might slow them down, they is still plenty of them in the beer. Take care regards from us both.

It was lovely to see all your garden Cliff, and the chickens who are definitely in paradise ! Thank you for showing us the disappointing parts too. We are plagued with slugs and snails here in Northamptonshire too and a family of rabbits is causing lots of problems.

Thanks Linda, Its been a bad year for slugs everywhere this year . They have caused a lot of damage to a lot of gardeners. I seem to get better results using beer traps and slug pellets. Rabbits can be such a nuisance I have to keep a eye out for them all the time. Take care regards Cliff.

Beautiful flowers in your courtyard! Your chickens are lovely. We usually put new ones in with the old ones at night, when they all want to go to roost. When they wake up in the morning, they seem to get along better than if we try integrating them in the daytime. If you don't get many bulbing onions, you can chop up the green parts and put them up in the freezer to use in soups and stews. I do that with our green onions (I think you call them spring onions there), as I have trouble growing bulbing types of onions. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos. I always enjoy watching. Blessings to you and your family. One other thing, if you don't have beer for slugs, I make a mixture of warm water, yeast, and sugar. That works against the slugs as well!
@CastleHillGarden4 ай бұрын
Thanks for your information on your comment Janet, We do use most of the spring onions this time of year regards Cliff.

It's been a difficult spring. Somethings I have struggled to grow have loved the cool and wet, but other dependables have given up. Lots of yellowing and pale plants. I'll need to up the manure and compost. It does feel like all the goodness has been diluted away. Lots of lush growth on the berries, but not so much fruit.... Gardening is such a puzzle sometimes. Lovely cheery courtyard! Who needs a Spanish holiday when you've got that suntrap..... And lucky chickens. I might ask to be reincarnated as a chicken at your place!😂
@CastleHillGarden4 ай бұрын
Yes you are right Neil we have struggled with the elements this year. The rain has leached the nutrients out of the soil, It will take sometime to recover. You might one day arrive as a new chick, I wont mind as long as you lay plenty of eggs lol. Thanks for watching regards Cliff.

Hiya Cliff and Diane, thanks for sharing your garden with us, everything looks so wonderful and growing really well, and it shows the hard work that goes into keeping it so smart ,clean and very tidy! Love the chickens but do they go in at night and away from any mr Foxes that must surely be in your vicinity!keep healthy and safe and will see you on the next video! 👍Dave.

Thanks Dave, all the chicken are locked in the coop every night, like you say we do have foxes around us. It also helps we made the boarders rabbit proof, this also helps keep out the foxes during the day. Enjoy the nice weather regards from us both.

We thought your comment about what your son said was funny. We always buy the cheapest beer for our traps and need to get out there and refresh them. Slugs ate almost all my Brussel sprouts and raised down the new carrot seedlings too! I'm on the war path!

Your cukes look short enough to put tomato cages over them and a clear trash bag for them. A nice small green house. Slugs don't like to cross used coffee grounds. They work fairly well. I have great luck with crushed egg shells for slugs also. That works til they get wet though.
