Playlist with individual tracks + loops! - bit.ly/HarmonySotNArrange This also doubles up as sounding as games like Rondo or some of the various rereleases of the 90s games + remakes since Konami used a lot of the same equipment! PS: Reminder the game doesn't use soundfonts so I can't really share these sounds but I left gear I used in description (which isn't Michiru Yamane's og gear but sounds close enough)!

Not a remake but a recolored patch that *greatly* improves the visuals of the game: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qHvaoWWoepernbs
@Cue-Ball. Жыл бұрын
@@davidchez513 I wouldn't really call it an "improvement" but it's certainly an option. Downside of that patch is how it kind of makes all the backgrounds lose their detail due to being too dark, Juste also feels a bit too hard to see sometimes. Like I know SotN was darker but not that dark haha. It also kind of ruins the atmosphere of some areas like Shrine of the Apostates/Wailing Way loses its spooky graveyard CV1 feel in the colours. Clock Tower also loses its more classic NES style palette due to this hack but I guess that's the point sadly.

Probably the best version of HoD OST on KZbin. The fact that there was no Aqueduct of Dragons made my cry though

I love the soundtrack for this game, I know it gets a bad wrap because of the sound quality, but the actual musical composition is literally Harmony in Dissonance which is super cool!

Love this! I've listen to a fair share of recreations/remasters of HoD's OST simply because I love those games. I have to say, this is probably the most faithful one to the original soundtrack. Most remasters tend to make the OSTs better by making some minor adjustments. But this arrangement, has that wack loud and messy gba soundfont feel to it, which makes it feel like I'm listening to the original soundtrack in High Quality.

Yeah! I've always loved these compositions but sadly the hardware makes it so not many people realise their potential. Also good point on SMT2, I wish SMT 1 and 2 got modern remakes with remastered soundtracks, would be amazing.

This is a tremendous effort and it shows. Awesome commitment, thank you very much! I really liked HoD's OST and this version is proof (For the skeptics, mostly) that the composition, albeit strange for Castlevania standards, is itself very good. Kudos!

Hoooooly crap, this stuff is top notch. The compostition, the instruments are really making these previously forgettable tracks shine. I would never have imagined that "Into the Heart of the Demon's Castle" or this game's boss theme could actually slap. Awesome, just awesome.

Thank you very much! I've always been a firm believer that the tracks in this game had the potential for shining beyond their chiptune restraints and it was fun to make this "what if" scenario kidn of arrangements. Glad you liked it!

I have to disagree. The "castle entrance" composition is pretty terrible and no amount remastering it can make that composition more enjoyable to listen to.

what an amazing job, man, your remixes of Chapel of Dissonance and Luminous Caverns are the best I've heard on KZbin. but what I liked the most was Decisive Battle, I feel that this one in particular best captured the essence of Symphony's songs. Anyway, do you plan to do more remixes of the rest of the OST for this game? would be very interesting!

I hastily tried to record something with mGBA while my controller was disconnecting every now and then which was really annoying plus I was doing it all half-assed so it's the worse gameplay you've ever seen. So i came here out of curiosity because i wanted to see if gba/dsvanias with the sotn soundfont would sound better, since i normally dislike them. I'm impressed with your arrangement, but for me it still sounds too much like HOD's sound style, also because the compositions sometimes seem to lack purpose or intention in where it's going which sotn does have.
@blancblackstudios Жыл бұрын
That's fair! I wanted to still stay true to HoD's sound because my goal wasn't to just replace what the original intention of the music is, rather a "what if" scenario of them being composed on different hardware which is why the structure stays true to the originals.

Mm… Not to state the obvious, but it just sounds like you took some MIDIs and slapped some digital samples in. I'm not impressed.
@blancblackstudios Жыл бұрын
That's fair that you feel that way! Completely valid fair criticism. However I do want to clear things up. While I did use the original rom's tracker data for reference everything was written in manually on my DAW using VSTs (virtual instruments). I used the E-MU synths & some Kontakt instruments to achieve the sound, I did not drop files into a soundfont. I wanted to achieve the sound as closest to Michiru Yamane's Roland rompler equipment as I could and the 90s E-mu Proteus series romplers I own are from same time period! The guitar was also recorded by me with my amp as I stated in the description. Also used some hardware Korg synths like the MonoPoly. All the mixing was also carefully done by hand. I also included new instrument parts that weren't in the original to add some flavour because the original game just has a few channels due to being a Gameboy game, I didn't use other people's material at all for this. A good example are the tubular bells on Offense and Defense that don't exist in the original. I feel it helped it give it punch and sounded very Castlevania-like. It especially took me aaaages to line-up all the stuff for the drums haha. The original 8bit stuff is very hard to parse and on examples like the boss theme the drums are completely original. I find that boss theme arrange is a good example of how MIDI-dropping wasn't involved with all the guitar pinch squeals and different approach. 🎸 Luminous Caverns also proved a bit tricky to adapt. If you feel it sounds like that from an auditive standpoint then fair enough! Most are virtual instruments after all haha plus I didn't alter the original structure of tracks however as an arranger & composer who writes original music I am against "MIDI slapping" as they call it (just putting MIDI files into a soundfont or sampler). In the end this was a lil' side project for fun. Maybe someday I will do actually fully-fledged arrangements in my style on my main arrange channel however these were meant to stay true to the original game's composition. Anyhow sorry for the big huge long essay! Hope your day finds you well 🎹
