When I was a kid, that first vampire boss ended up grabbing me and biting me, turning me into a vampire. When I beat him, I turned Cornell around and saw his transformed face with the fangs on it. It scared me so bad that I turned off the game and went to bed immediately. In short, that bastard was responsible for so many of my nightmares as a kid and it felt cathartic seeing you beat his ass.

@@sapphirejade5029 Naw, it's not on switch and it scared me like it did cuz I had yet to see something like that as a kid. Now that I think about it, that game was bold because you don't see that happening in any of the castlevanias that followed after. It kinda has my respect for that now.

Did this version get hate too? I thought people liked this one better than the first one, still i agree the hate is undeserving. Tho most who hate on it never actually played them, they're just copying after popular videos that trashed on it. Its rough but yea its an early 3d game, of course its not going amazing, but it still has many good things about it.

The problem isn't that it's a bad game. It's that it's a bad Castlevania game. If it hadn't been saddled with that title it would have been another amusing, kind of charming fantasy adventure with all the usual N64 jank that made it so tricky to master.

@@natp8387 Matter of fact, there's a lot of respect given to the original Castlevania atmosphere and feeling, not to mention all the nods to previous games. The story in itself isn't that much of a change compared to what was done before, the new characters don't feel out of place at all, pretty much the same with every places you visit, so I don't know how it's a bad Castlevania game. Might be janky, I'll give you that, but still far better than any IGAvania, hands down.

I really enjoyed this Castlevania game despite all the hate for it. It is as close as you can get to turning Castlevania 1 into 3D. Also this game was the darkest and grimiest Castlevania of the whole franchise. It’s the only Castlevania game that has gore at a T rating. This game reminds me a lot of Nightmare Creatures game.

When I broke through the first generation, I moved the nitroglycerin level and the jumping level of the magic tower, which was torture to death. I had to grab the edge to climb up and press the corresponding direction. In this generation, I can just press it to climb up. I love how Harpy got the best Battle theme in game, while Gilles de Rais got Rondo of Blood one (not to mention, I can understand, why there are no Vampire boy and Vampire Girl boss, but come on - those were the best boss in Original game)(.

О! Нойс! А таки решил обе версии пробежать и 64, и LoD. Все таки хочу видеть в чем разница. Музыка местами, кстати, напоминает House of the Dead. Например, третью в битве с Water Dragon, да и часто звуки сходные попадаются.

Because it plays like dogshit, which is terrible because it is also a platformer. And the sound design is the most basic, bland music you can have for a videogame which is miles behind what other castlevanias have.

Some people in the fanbase compared it to Symphony and said it was terrible because it was nothing like symphony (i love symphony too, but the comparison was bullshit, they are clearly two really different games with outstanding quality)

@@alescano3504 I have not played the game personally but a lot of friends have said it has bad controls but you could be right--although a lot of games from this era were pretty awkward, for instance in the way in the controls how the character juts forward and how it's awkward to turn.

@@RareSeldas Sorry, couldn't answet before. I personally disagree, i think controls in CV64 are really, really good, especially if you compare with modern parry and dodge combat based games (in the vein of the souls games). The only issue is the camera that sometimes does weird things, but those moments are really scattered through, and you have at the same time great cameras that were implemented when there was little consensus about camera in 3D. About the movement: obviously it is not a metroidvania, it is an early 3D somewhat non linear game. Controls are different than SOTN, for example. Movement is heavy ala Tomb Raider, you need to consider jumps and surfaces, but that makes it deeply satisfying. About the combat: the combat is really good, seriously, REALLY. It is clearly inspired by OoT, but does everything better. Hitboxes are exquisite. The attacks are varied and different from each other (you have to attacks per character, different for Carrie-Reindhart), you have a damaging slide and the ability to dodge quickly enemy attacks. The dodge mechanic is surprisingly well implemented. Overall you have to approach the combat as a dodge and parry game ala souls, as opposed to the more combo based games like DMC or GoW. Overall: i really recommend you to try them. If you have a PC, you can emulate CV64/LoD with low level emu with simple64 or high level (enhanced resolution, widescreen, texture packs) with RMG or PJ64 (Rosalie's instaler). Also, about the awkward way to turn: i guess your pals where talking about tank controls. Those were the controls used in horror games and were popularized by Resident Evil. I never liked them, but they work in that context. Tank controls means you have to stand still to change direction (rotating) like a tank. It was a solution for 3D in the context of RE (pre-rendered backgrounds) and the PS1 (no analog, just d-pad). It was barely used in action platformers because it is awful. SM64, Oot, Crash, Sonic Adventure, Tomb Raider, all those games set the standard for good and responsive movement in 3D. CV64 is along those lines. But if you want to see a platformer with tank controls, Bubsy 64 has those. It is painful. You can also check some more action combat games with tank controls, like Vampire Hunter D for the PS1. Again, painful in my experience. They were left behind after the fifth generation of games, thankfully
