Sypha's little blush when Alucard asked her if she knew the whole story is a little Easter egg for those of us that have already watched the entire series :).
@highlander3152711 ай бұрын
17:01 Sypha Belnades is the Speaker Magician. There were TONS of people who complained about her being too powerful in the show. She is LESS offensively powerful in the show than she was in the game. It made it rather easy to spot the aggravating people who were unfamiliar with the game and lore this show is loosely based on, and who just wanted to complain. Sypha, Alucard, and a pirate thief named Grant were all companions that Trevor could find and enlist in his fight against Dracula in the game. They all had different powers and abilities. Grant was basically a ninja Spiderman with throwing knives and no webshooters. You won't see Grant, but there is a reference to him in the show. All of the companions had their strengths and weaknesses, and Sypha was basically a glass cannon. She can dish out massive amounts of damage, but her health pool left a lot to be desired when compared to Trevor or Alucard. Fans of the game knew this thirty plus years ago from the game, and it was neat to see the show faithfully follow that aspect of her instead of turning her into the girlboss Mary Sue that is common nowadays. She was difficult to use well in the game because her physical skills made her the least useful for gameplay, but oh boy when it came to boss fights, she was the one you wanted. She could melt each form of Dracula in seconds. So, they nerfed her magic in the show, and gave her a few more abilities instead. There's also a very good reason she blushed when Alucard asked her if she was familiar with the prophecy. Icy little feet on Sypha.
@MandalorianRevan11 ай бұрын
Alucard's first appearance was Castlevania 3, alongside Trevor Belmont and Sypha Belnades. His next appearance would be Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (the first time you play as someone other than a Belmont), where he was the main character and worked with Maria Renard to save Richter Belmont, the greatest of the Belmont Clan. He would make appearances in other games afterwards. If you look at when Alucard asks Sypha if she knew the stories, she blushes- every Belmont you play in the franchise are descendants of the combined Belmont-Belnades legacy.

There are a ton of references, in this episode. In the game, Sypha is physically the weakest out the characters you can play as, but her magic more than compensates; with the right spell, she can even make quick work of Dracula. That said, they really made her creative and OP with her magic in this show; seriously, she could give Aang a run for his money. Sypha can also freeze the water, in the game; and if you've ever played those water stages, you know how much of a Godsend that is. We also get a demonstration of holy water here. It only travels a short distance in front of you. before bursting into flame, but the flame hits multiple times; making it great for grounded or stationary targets. There's almost always a level with rotating gears, in Castlevania games... In game, Alucard is also recruited in the catacombs, after defeating him in duel. And his sword is a reference to the Sword Familiar, in Symphony of the Night; one of his best weapons and familiars in the game, if you have the patience to level it up.
@highlander3152711 ай бұрын
Triple shot and Great Balls of Lightning. Each form of Dracula died within a few seconds of transforming with that setup. Now, do you remember how hard it was to get to Dracula with that spell? It's not even on Dracula's level to collect.

I agree with what you said about vampires being capable of a bit more calm/thoughtfulness due (at least in part to their age), but I got impression that you thought that Alucard was fairly old. In the intro to ep 1, the year is shown as 1455; in this episode when asked “what is the year of your lord” (a bit of subtle phrasing that tickles me no end), Sypha says it’s 1476. We haven’t been given any indication of Dracula’s age, but Adrian/Alucard is about 21, give or take. I suspect one of the reasons this season is so short is that Warren Ellis (the sole writer for Castlevania as far as I’m aware) was originally commissioned to write this for another company entirely; as I understand it, the other production company collapsed/vanished/something, so he shopped it around. Question for you: have you watched Supernatural and, if so, how many seasons have you seen? Asking because if you’ve gotten past a certain point I have a bit of casting trivia about Castlevania; if you haven’t, I’ll keep quiet so as not to spoil your supernatural experience, if/when it happens. I’m enjoying your reactions; no over the top face-slapping, just genuine responses and thoughtful discussion. Looking forward to season 2; cheers.

Honestly, I think the bishop's death is really poetic for 2 major reasons: At this point, Dracula's revenge is against the entirety of humanity, and while the Bishop pulled the trigger, as far as he's concerned he was just the trigger of an entire flawed species. He couldn't care less if he died that night or twenty years out, he would die eventually and Dracula would just continue on. If he went after the Bishop himself, he would have just been following Alucard's advice from episode 1, and kind of shooting his justification for warring on mankind in the foot. And I think it's fitting that it's NOT Dracula that kills him, just one of his demon minions (albeit a seemingly high-ranking one). It really drives home how the Bishop was just a power tripping nobody at the end of the day, he doesn't get to die as a martyr holy man who was slain by the lord of vampires settling a personal grudge, he gets to die an ignoble and totally ignored death with the only witnesses being his killers, he wasn't any more special to the demons that killed him than any of their other victims in that same night (though they definitely took special glee in getting to murder a holy man in his own church), and when they mop up the corpses, he's just one more body for them to have to bury.
