@taigaaisaka6305 That's because it is a filter. The "PS3 version" is just the PS1 version running natively thanks to the PS3's backwards compatibility, you can turn off the filter any time you want and it'll look just like on PS1.

Enhanced cleans up aliasing though. It looks sharp enough on my 720p Samsung (Yes I own 4k like everyone else, but low res panels for low res content, and it's a good compromise for 5th gen consoles over hoarding a bulky CRT)

If you want to see what real softness looks like, try hooking a Gamecube with only composite ports up to an LCD. :) That's how I've been playing mine lately, it was so soft I actually flipped on the Edge Enhancements. Looks a lot better tbh, this is what your TV's sharpening is meant for (And am aware upscalers exist, I refuse to pay the price of a console for slightly better visuals when I can make do with what I own)

REality is OG developer team never supported the saturn extras and additions, they weren0t even designed by them, rather than being added after an after hours sega tea that barely knew the franchise. Some where considered ridiculous addons to try to stand out from PS by game director. Though I like the Richter and Maria's modes, the Saturn extras are simply thrash addons-

I got both versions; PSX and Saturn. The Sega version it's an aberration of port. It's bonus contents won't match the real need on to play that grossy version. Anf i can tell; i finished both versions ever. The Original Playstation game, not the another ports from the future Gens, still the best. I know, the Maria Renard mode it's great, and the Saturn version got it. Even the PSP / PS4 got Maria as a good bonus. But these future ports still mediocre to me. The audio sounds so mediocre.

The PS1 and Saturn versions looked even better on original hardware played on CRT screens. More precise definition of lines and shapes, smoother transitions between tones, subtler light and color change effects, etc. PS1 was and still is the superior version, imo, when played on proper screens.

Have not seen but can believe, I've tested games on a CRT and LCD. Midway's Arcade Treasures 3 and Namco Museum looks drastically better on the CRT, Megaman Anniversary Collection has this weird dot crawl effect on LCD's. And of course there's the "staircase jaggied" in games like the X Collection.

Yeah, CRTs had the luminescence effect that made them seem like they had better resolution than they did. Properly programmed games like Symphony of the Night used those effects the max (as did many late gen PS1 games). It looks a lot less good when viewing 224p on a 4k modern screen, all that magic is lost. It takes a lot of skill to recreate the feel, but I think the PS4 version looks great. The Xbox 360 version looks like what most updated games look like, a bit too cartoonish. If you look at the rocks, the background, that's my feeling.

PS3 and X360 look like trash Holy shit. Sadly the Soundchip of the Saturn wasn't as great as playstation. I wish we'd get a definitive edition with the PSX sound and graphics, but with the Saturn content. But with Konami basically having deleted themselves from the Videogame industry I doubt that's ever going to happen. Unless something changes like Microsoft or Sony buying their Videogame division and IPs. I doubt that's going to happen as it wouldn't really be a smart purchase, but who knows.

PS1 is definitely the best. 360 has that forced border and the start button oddly used for a new out of game pause menu, PS4 is based on the inferior PSP version with less buttons, Saturn has more content but suffers in many other aspects. Also I feel like the PS1 version has better audio for the more "crunchy" sounds. I can't quite describe it but its almost like the later ports removed the bass and oomph in the sfx.

You can't really go wrong with any of them. The Live Arcade version is by far the most affordable and accessible, think I got mine for 2 or 3 dollars on a sale. Every other version seems subject to the laws of "Sucker born every minute". Seriously, the PSX copy has mountains of supply, yet people pay hundreds for it. Saw one listing for 13,000, bet you some trust fund baby buys it.

No offense pro, but even though I love the PS1 version. I'm a sega Saturn man through and through, it was a better system in every way. Not only did they not spend the time they needed programming the Saturn version, it also should have either been comparable, or better than the PS1. Also for those people that say the Saturn did "inferior 3D polygons" are delusional. Try checking out the panzer dragoon series, especially 2, which the PS1 couldn't run in a million years. Or guardian heroes for that matter, superior 3d games in every way. Or how about that expansion cart? If Sony has been smart, they'd have done the same thing. Bottom line is I think the Saturn version is just fine, and when I get my Saturn back (I'm buying a 600 dollar modified system) I intend to play the hell out of it.

Saturn is the best. 4 Charkters. Exclusive levels. Exklusive Bosses. Exclusive Enemys. Every Charakter controls different and can use other attacks. And Saturn got the fastest loading times. At least i love the original Voices on the Saturn version. But 1 thing i dont like at the Saturn version. The way to open the map is to Complicated. But it was luckly on of thr Cheeper games. I bought it for 135€ used. Thats almost 195$.

Symphony of the Night was never released for the PS3. The one you see here is a copy of the PS1 version playing on a PS3. The upscaling gives it a blurry looking filter. Yuck.

The PS3 version is essentially just the PS1 version emulated. Hell you can even play the game on a PS3 with a PS1 disc of the game (and playing like that instead of downloading the game digitally actually makes the game look sharper)

However I do know that if you have an original copy of Castlevania Symphony of the Night on PS1, you can play the disc on your PS3. A copy of SOTN might be a bit pricy though. You can also just emulate the game. If you ever want to emulate the game I suggest using the DuckStation emulator on PC
