They weren't cut off. They are part of Sega Saturn Exclusive content. As for the sprites looking weird, it's because Konami put another team in charge of this port which came after the Ps1 release of the game

Three areas, multiple items, holder function, new bosses, bgm, Richter’s alt costume, Maria playable(very different than psp ver.) and selectable from the start were new content added to the saturn version. But it’s a pity they never got to polish the saturn version, brainwashed Maria boss fight was cut(or rather changed to her testing how strong Alucard is. This fight is different in the psp version), and this OP version of Maria is not playable in any other version of sotn.

Requiem was a lazy port of rondo and sotn that was included in chronicles x on the psp. It’s funny in requiem sotn you cant button map L2 and R2 cause the psp doesn’t have those buttons.

They lost the saturn source code and would have to rebuild these things from scratch, which is a nightmare with an old game's code since code in game's is specific to the game and you need to remember what everything does, it'sthe reason why games need to be decompiled to use code from them in other games and pieces of software, also they stated the saturn areas didn't meet standards on quality because, let's be real, the saturn areas suck

I'm glad to have my Xbox 360 to play SOTN. My PS1 doesn't read disks anymore. Just wish all consoles had the same content and secrets.

2 years late but just wanted to say- You can play it on any PC or mac with an emulator and it'll run like butter - from disk OR from an ISO image (so you dont need a disk in the drive... ov course you own a copy of the game right... heh)

Currently playing the Android version of this game and on the 1st castle you get to fight Maria. Still haven't made my way to the inverted castle yet but man we should have gotten the entire game for us PS owners back in the day. Loveeeeee this game.

OH man! Chconne C Moll (the Cursed Prison) is easily the BEST piece but I have never heard it live. Mr Westerlund, I have asked you about that (on my other youtube account before fascistube banned it) and you said you have played it live before. No, I haven't performed this piece live (i don't think i was even aware of it when we planned the concert in 2010). Great Bach-sounding piece for sure, but totally unknown to all but the most die hard fans. So much awesome music in this series, it's a shame there isn't time to perform it all.

Yes, the sprint ability is there, pretty useful in the reverse castle. Maria is a very frustrating boss, basically invinsible with her magic shield...i don't have any solid strat, just blind fury like in the video, took about 10 tries at least

@@DavidWesterlund Yeah, she plays completely differently on the PSP/PS4 version. On Saturn she has a crazy moveset like triple jump, a flying jump kick, all kinds of spells, and she moves really fast. It's insane, I recommend checking it out just for fun

The Saturn famously had an issue with transparency effects. Some developers got around it by being clever with layers but others didn't bother, I guess Konami being the latter category.

Honestly, those stages look bland and clash with the rest of the game. The Underground Garden feels like a beta version of the much better Floating Garden from Aria of Sorrow and Garden of madness from Dawn of Sorrow. If we're talking about a "Definitive Version", that title goes to the PSP version.
