You should also mention to your wife that herbivores aren't strictly herbivores. Most of them will eat smaller animals that they can get their mouths on, because an all veggie diet is quite frankly unsustainable. I seen deers eating birds out of the nest, and cows eating snakes, etcetera. Chimps may not be herbivores, but gorillas are close though.

Its not unsustainable. Its just that in nature you see something you can eat you eat it. You might not be made for eating whatever it is but you can usually gain something from it worth any potential stomach issues.

@@Merilirem true, but it's also for providing their diets with nutritional... supplements(? ) Full disclosure: I forgot the actual wording I was looking for but I think nutritional supplements gets my point across. From what I've read, it's proteins and calcium that drives herbivores into eating smaller animals. Especially calcium, which is why they'll eat the bones from carcasses.

This. Most animals choose a herbivorean diet, but they can be omnivores or even carnivores if they wanted to. The best example is the Panda. They are a type of bear and thus carnivorous by nature, but they still restrict themselves solely to Bamboo.

Most types of dogs are harmless if they are YOUR pet (keep your canine children on leashes people they're kids that walk home from school and vice versa.) and if you get seriously hurt by a bird you have to be doing something EXTREMELY wrong. im talking about getting hurt by the bird on purpose which it can't even do that much damage other than you might possibly get a infection from the injury.

It depends on the animal and situation. Look up Michael Jamieson, he has a full ZOO house with 150+ animals, some cats and dogs, some exotic animals. He's a millionaire that RESCUES animals and treats them like actual animals/family and not just like pets. There's good examples of keeping wild animals but also very bad examples.

Also keep in mind when i said that I wasn't meaning it in a sense that every animal has the potential to hurt you, which they do of course, I meant in the sense that i just can't stand pets period. edit: Domesticated animals weren't always domesticated. At some point in time humans had to look at them and say, "I'm going to make that thing a companion."

I remember for my primatology class I had too observe different troops of chimpanzees. I went to the LA zoo and San Diego zoo; went three or four times each. Every time I went there was a fight in the exhibit they even killed a baby (chimp) on one occasion. So nothing they do surprises me now.

Honestly, *most* animals will resort to cannibalism. It's a way of getting rid of stillbirths. Lots of animals will eat their own *live* babies if stressed, too.

Our bodies seem to naturally reject eating human meat, which is meant to prevent us from catching the diseases we can get from doing so. I have an adverse reaction to it tranquilizer darts that act like adrenaline shots. Due to some genetic mutation or at least thats what the doctor said, when I had a meltdown. So its not that unbelievable that the chimp lost his mind to a downer.

Also, Travis was given MORE than the recommended dose of Xanax, like, almost overdosed on them. Instead of like 1-2 pills, he was given 3-5 pills. And if you look up the side affects of overdosing Xanax it explains what happened to Travis.

The experimenter wanted to test the cognition and learning ability of chimps compared to humans. It was shown that the chimp learn much faster than the kid and they had around the same level intelligence until the age of 2 where the chimps intelligence basically "stagnated" while the child's intelligence took off. This result seriously wasn't worth nor did it justify the abuse of that experiment.

It's important to remember that animals are not as moral as us- if a herbivore is starving and lacking certain nutrients, they will eat small animals they can catch to get protein (the video of a horse vacumming a baby chick still spooks me even now) Edit: I feel sad Skitten has never seen ben 10, that show was an awesome part of my childhood

I have seen Nash's photos before the reconstruction...they were NOT pleasant to look at. It reminds me of this other incident involving a dogsitter getting mauled by a pitbull-mix and a German Shepherd in terms of brutality. I find it remarkable that Nash still carries on despite the attack (although I don't understand how she can forget most of it), and to be honest, both she and the chimp were victims in this situation. Moral of this lesson: NEVER keep chimps. Just let them be in the wild.

I saw an interview for that woman who was attacked. I DO NOT recommend looking it up. The closest thing that comes close is a (and I'm not trying to be insensitive) poddling from the movie the dark crystal. Fortunately for her she did get a face transplant. Only reason I mention the poddling part is because that is the closest visual representation for how badly that chimp injured her. If you look up poddling just imagine it with no eyes. I hope she has a peaceful life from here on out.

I looked up the images. They weren't that bad. It is facinating though how certaon parts of the face seem to be malformed from trauma and you can see the flesh at the back of her empty eyesockets. I can't help but wonder how exactly Travis achieved that result. It is also possible that it is due to medical care from afterwards though.
