Love the guy calling Zane a "technical duelist", as if he's some real life person noted for his excellent use of real world mechanics and skill that other players can aspire to have, and not a completely fictional character who was only good at this game because he magically drew every card he needed in his opening hand every time.

Let's be fair, before he switched to cyber darks, zane had the most consistently powerful, and least convoluted deck in gx. @@DrDrao You're right, his deck was probably the best one out of anyone in the series. I mostly pick on him because I swear every opening hand he had in the show was 3 cyber dragons + some fusion spell, and everyone goes "ahhhhhh, what talent! Notice how skillfully he draws everything he needs to summon guy with big numbie every duel!". I mean say what you will about Jaden or Syrus (or even Sartorius), at least their opening hands varied from duel to duel, and thus is SLIGHTLY more believable.

HettGutt Nope... 1) Steroids are something external to the body (which would be the equivalent to the Deck in Yugioh) For your analogy to work, it should be applied to Stacking or some other cheating methods. 2) Using Meta Decks is perfectly legal... it's just as legal as using a casual or rogue deck. If you don't like whatever your opponent plays... there's the door. I play Dragunity... it's been my only deck since 2013 (i didn't use any Dragon Rulers if that's of concern) And no one can deny the love i've put in that deck. The deck doesn't always win... but i honestly don't care what my opponent plays... because it's their choice. We let you make your choice about your deck... Why must you decide about what WE play?

I actually know a guy like this. He builds 60 card decks that rely on ridiculous 1 ofs to completely carry his strategy, and when I call him out on his flawed logic, he just claims that I’m ‘too naive to understand’. Like he built a deck revolving about neos wiseman, and was running only one of neos and yubel, and not even running other cards to like tutor them out either. He was running 1 neos, 1 yubel, 1 neos wiseman, and 1 card to tutor out yubel, which is a LVL 6 GEMINI. It was genuinely the most dumbfounding thing I’ve ever heard and seen. I kinda got off topic, either way, casual elitists are quite funny when they think they’re hot shit, and in all reality, they make decks I would have made when I was 10 buy a pack or 2 a month with my allowance.

For me, I think it boils down to 4 types Type 1 are the people literally just starting out with little knowledge of how to properly build, so they're just trying everything they can all at once. These are people who struggle to beat their friends and/or video game AI. Type 2 are the people Dzeeff are describing here. Ones that have been playing for a while, know the rules pretty well, but are on the extreme end of the Dunning Kruger effect where they think they know better than competitive players. They either have zero idea of what competitive decks are actually capable of, or THINK they do and think their decks have zero issues countering them (this is often based on blind speculation and/or one time they got lucky against a meta player), and most of their experience with yugioh comes from playing against video game AI, their friends, maybe even a local tournament or two. Type 3 are the people who have at least seen competitive yugioh decks in action, and potentially got their asses handed to them. These are the people who whine constantly about how bullshit the meta is, have extreme solutions on how to "fix" it (limit extra deck space or special summons, unban X card, literally throw out the entirety of a new summoning mechanic, etc). Type 4 are people who are well aware of how the meta works, knows why there are a non-insignificant amount of people who enjoy it (hint: maybe just because YOU don't find something fun doesn't mean other people can't possibly find it fun), but decided that the meta isn't for them, and continue playing their rogue decks/made up formats/etc without bothering anybody about it.

The worst thing is, that many elitists or so called "creative players" just don't even care to listen to facts. I for example had to explain to someone that a deck that wants to get Legendary Fisherman III on the field, should play as many consistency cards as possible and not just 1 Legendary Fisherman, II & III each and a bunch of water monsters that basically do nothing. He didn't even care about the mathematical facts I provided! One time, I even heard someone say, that he plays his best cards just 1 or 2 times as he likes the diversity of playing the other cards of his archetype (i.e. the bad ones). Life (and Yu-Gi-Oh) can be frustrating at times.

i feel like what a lot of these "this deck is actually super good and super skillful" comments miss is that if it's a skillful deck then it should actually show some good results when played well. there are things in games even outside yugioh that reward you immensely for being able to master and flop if you're unable to learn the strategy, but when a deck shows no results even after mastering the hyped up skill curve, mayyyybe it just isn't very good.
@onyxshade5381

Mergedpotato My perfect example of a “skillful deck” is probably D/D/D. It has results but it’s a damn hard archetype to play because your mechanical understanding has to be on point af. There are freestyle D/D/D combos and strategies. I’m starting to play them and I’m shocked how little I actually know about them. Then again just came back after a few years so I don’t know as much as I once did.

i get a lot of people at my locals that have more or less this type of mentality. they come in, they think they're the best player, their deck is amazing, and then they get swiftly 2-0'd by one of my more casual decks (because i feel bad playing shit like trickstars, lol.) and they don't understand why they lost. some of them are a tad less full of themselves and are willing to listen to feedback, and some just double down. i think the one thing i hate the most is when people playing a "casual" deck like ice barrier, they always dismiss losses with "oh, you beat ice barrier, big deal..." but then let even a single win go right to their head like "HAHA! you got beat by ICE BARRIERS!!!" and they turn into insufferable assholes for the rest of the day. they basically deflect any responsibility for their loss while also diminishing any work you put in by blaming it on their shitty deck, while also getting super big headed and trying to put you down because hey, you lost to a shit deck ONE time. because it's not like rng is a thing and sometimes no amount of skill can compensate for luck/probability. i had one guy saying that he knew he'd win a game before they even started because he saw his opponent's deck beforehand. his deck literally only won because it was so bad that none of the other guys cards actually mattered. because their deck was designed to play against actual good decks and didn't have an out for something like the first of dragons. (i think he had raigeki, but he milled it because lightsworn rng) he also would have actually won in time had he not decked out first. so the other guy was more or less handed a win because he happened to have one card in his extra deck that the opponent only had one or two ways to deal with, AND got lucky enough to open with his SINGLE copy of dragon's mirror that he for some reason was running in a cyberse deck, and was able to use it early enough.

So, I used to be one of those guys who thought meta players were all douchebags because at my locals they were. And then my friends and I started to actually look into how we could be more competitive because we wanted to beat the choades who always won our locals. Ironically, the first tournament we ever went to when we all got back into the game was a Regionals tournament, so we kind of knew there was a more competitive scene. Eventually we met more competitive players and we really liked the meta scene and just discovered that douchbags were everywhere, casual or competitive. Like, I know that I’ll probably not top a tournament again for awhile because I work and do 16 credits per semester, so I just don’t have the time. The only top I ever got was because I just graduated high school and didn’t have any responsibilities so I focused all my time of Yu-Gi-Oh lol

Can I just mention that at some point in my Yugioh "career" I thought it would be a good idea to play Blasting the Ruins in Lightsworn? For those of you who don't know, Blasting the Ruins is a trap card that lets you burn for 3000 damage, but only when you have 30 cards in your graveyard. It makes sense logically, but this was also before Grass, so there's that.

I consider myself a “casual competitive” player. I usually play casually, just whenever someone I know wants to duel, but when I get a chance I do like to compete if I can, just to see how I do. I also like to brainstorm with other Duelists on my deck (or if I can see a strategy in theirs they may not) and try to grow and get better at the game...but just for fun though. Win or lose, I still have fun and after the match if we’ve got time, I’ll usually ask my opponent for input to see what they’ve got to say about how I played and if they ask me, I’m glad to give my opinions and insights. At the end of the day, it’s all a game and I’m just there to have fun.

I don't play the game anymore and play MtG I just enjoy hearing about other card games and you're the only YGO youtuber I subscribe to. Elitist casuals are also annoying in MtG since they can't understand that people actually enjoy going to big tournaments and events like Grand Prixs and Opens so they play tiered decks so they don't scrub out after paying a $50 entry fee and I'm not surprised YGO has these kinds of people as well. It's honestly annoying because they have this belief that tournament players think they're better than them when we're just enjoying the game in our own way and don't really care if they're off having their own fun. Hell a lot of us even play casual formats like Commander and Horde so the idea that we're always playing hyper competitive decks is completely wrong. Commander itself was made by judges even.

The players who say meta decks require no skill, must really never have netdecks a top deck an actually used it against other good players and other top meta decks. It easy to know within seconds you can win unless you have a strong understanding of how the decks play and interact.

And then there's me, "creating" a deck with just 3x of each card in an archetype I like the flavor of, plus random Mirror Forces and Trap Holes (and a Scrap-Iron Scarecrow bcause why not). Also, I consistently win in casual matches because the last deck I "built" is a Gouki deck

There's a special place in hell for people that call cards unbalanced solely based on the fact that they're expensive. I've seen some dumbasses say shit like "Ash Blossom would be more balanced if it was easier to get", and it drives me up the wall like THAT'S NOT HOW CARD BALANCE WORKS

im gonna generalize here. most casual players are most likely in middle schoolers who play with their group of friends, went to a card shop once and got bodied. so rather than get better than the card shop players, got salty and just stuck to their friends. so, i used to be in this group minus the elitist and scrub mentality simply because i couldnt afford the good stuff. so i just took the mentality of, okay since i cant play with the good stuff, im gonna study what i can to make sure that when i was able to afford the stuff i knew what i could do to become a better player. this was way back in 2010-2012. now im playing lightsworn zombies and dinos my advice to these players, just find a good paying job. buy your stuff gradually. all you need to do is be patient. if you arent smart with money you wont be able to afford to live and play yugioh at the same time. it is expensive but it isnt impossible to play smart

You can't be more wrong. Are you familiar whit the 3 player types of magic the gathering? Most casual player belong to the "timmy" category: timmies play for the experience, and chose their deck based on thing like artworks, big numbers or the fact that their favorite anime character used it. They are more interested to win on their own terms (which in yugi usually mean by using some huge, animesque play)than to win as many games as possible. It like the difference beetwen the people that play the adventure of a pokemon game using their favorites and those that ladder on smogon. No play style is more or less valid.

For example i am a jhonny and even if i am not playing right now, i took some interest in ABC just because A-to-Z exist. I simply value the "bragging right" of having summoned it over the higher win% that i coul get whit an optimal abc build.

sono un idiota i was generalizing. and no. i play magic never heard of the johnny types. all im saying is that stereo typically the people that get upset over metaplayers are just people who have this mindset of pay to win. the point i was making is yes, yugioh is pay to win sometimes but eventually a person with patience will be able to get decks that they can win with. as i said in the OP, i am generalizing. i was a casual player but i didnt want to suck at the game. so i studied it and was patient with the game. i kept striving to get better rather than complain. a lot of players as demonstrated in this video just hate on better players simply because they cant beat them for whatever reason

Mtg card maker have 3 "types" of player in mind when they create new cards. Timmies, Jhonnies, and spikes. I already covered timmies. Spikes are the tournament player that just play what is the best at the moment . Making spike card is easy, you just need to make them strong. Jhonnies like the deckbuilding aspect and value creativity and uniqueness. Usually they like card that are "awesome but impractical" and try to find ways to make those more effective. ABC is an intersting archetype because it has something for everyone: timmies get "kaiba cards", jhonny get the challenge of summoning A-to-Z and spikes gets a competitive deck. You seem to be a spike for example and i wanted to explainn what is in mind of timmies and jhinnies to make easier understanding how this game work(but the timmy-jhonny-spike division exist in a lot of game and is generally very useful). Not everyone play to win as much as possible.

I think what the guy at 6:32 means by personal deck is that a deck that you made from the ground up without any sort of outside help, and the we part is referring to every person that made decks like that. Now I understand what they mean because the one time me and my friend when to a pokemon TCG locals (I know it's not related to yu-gi-oh, but it's related to what I'm saying) and while we used decks that we build ourselves, a lot of others used decks that we're more competitively viable and available online to view and probably cost a good amount of money to make.

I'm personally not a competitive person, when I did play YGO (and as I've been enjoying Hearthstone for the past several years) I've always been a casual and have never personally had the desire to try and move up the competitive ladder. I'll always prioritise building a deck that's fun to play over a deck that wins, hence why if I do get back into YGO, I don't think I'll be removing Magic Cylinder ;) However, neither casual play or competitive play is universally "better", it all depends on what you're looking to get out of a game and which playstyle is more desirable depends completely on the person playing. Elitists, be they casual or pro, just end up being assholes to the other side and don't really help anything. Not to mention that, at least personally speaking, even from a casual perspective there's a lot to love out of the competitive angle of things. I don't think I'd enjoy competitive YGO, but I absolutely enjoy these videos analysing what works and what doesn't in competitive YGO as well as going over its history, because it's fun to observe from an outside perspective and I think, despite me never playing in a YGO competition in my life, I'd have a dimmer view of the cardgame without that competitive experience being there.

Color me corrected, but I believe Ra's effect to have collective effect was in some video game? I am really not sure, but I believe that was a thing at some point. Maybe it just happened in the anime and I remember incorrectly.

It also had that effect in the weird GBA games (the not-card simulator ones like Sacred Cards and Reshif of Destruction), but when you look at how far they are from the actual TGC, it gets a bit hard to take that effect seriously...

Those who complain about people playing the meta decks don’t understand that people play them to have the best chances to win in competitive tournaments. Yeah, you can play rouge, but how many have actually made it to the top cut as frequent as the meta in tournaments? Not many.

I agree, but people who play meta decks should understand the frustration of wanting to play competitively, and wanting to win, but being unable to afford a better deck because the top-tier decks are all unreasonably expensive.

Dude. You were so nice in the way you approached and I appreciate you poking fun without being mean. That 3rd guy man smh. Red Eyes is my favorite deck in YuGiOh, but pure Red Eyes is just bad. You can’t be mad at the meta when you’re playing Red Eyes. You just take your occasional wins and be grateful 😂
