Thank you for this! I was wondering why my resin was mixing unintentionally in my mold. I think it was because I made one color and the second one a while after. So the top color was made and immediately poured in. So I think it was mixing because of that. When I make both colors ready to pour at the same time I don’t have that issue.

Hello, I'm working on a project. A bit of a side hustle. Basically I'm etching and then filling in the etching with colored epoxy. What epoxy is the most durable in your experience? Something with just a teensy bit of give would be best since my products might have to deal with very slight material expansion. Plastic pieces that often get left in cars or in hot garages is what I'm etching.
@CasualDIY
@CasualDIY 2 жыл бұрын
Well when resin sets its like hard plastic. It will not shrink or expand. That's why for example if you are doing a resin table or any project with resin and wood the wood needs to be fully sealed otherwise as wood moves in seasons the bond between wood and resin may break. Now are you asking for a brand of epoxy or do you mean resin? As epoxy is a type of resin. You got for example polyester resin, polyurethane resin, epoxy resin, acrylic resin and so on.
@popanda3652
@popanda3652 2 жыл бұрын
@@CasualDIY I'm gonna say epoxy resin. It needs to be clear in small quantities and sandable to a polish. I've been using gorilla glue epoxy resin but In any sort of sizeable batch it heats up too much and changes the color. Also it gets hard pretty quick when I add color.

Hello brother, how can we make epoxy like bakelite hard and not affected by fire
@CasualDIY
@CasualDIY 2 жыл бұрын
Any resin essentially when cured will be similar on a way to plastic ie. If you put fire on it it will melt or even catch fire. There are resins that are heat resistant but not fire resistant. There may be some other chemicals that you could coat your cured resin but I don't know of any, never had a need to use such a thing

Hi, Any of the powders and pigments I presented in this video can be used to make jewellery. It all depends what effect you want to achieve. Not sure about fabric paints, never used them, but if they are water based then no. Resin does not react well with water and water based components.

Thank you for amazing tutorial May I know for geode in black which is the best colour to use with resin to get good dark black thank you
@CasualDIY
@CasualDIY 2 жыл бұрын
If you want just a solid black with no extra effects then a normal black resin dye will do the job. I'm using dyes from resinpro.eu and they not failed me yet ( got a promo code for them if you want ) however most resin dyes will do just fine. One thing I would suggest is to experiment with quantity of the dye - if you add too little it may be transparent and I'm guessing you don't want that.

Thanks for this! Just wondered how long you let the resin sit before you put the dye it in when it was separated? the blue and white one ?
@CasualDIY
@CasualDIY 3 жыл бұрын
The time will vary from what resin you are using and what condition you are working in ( temperature in your workshop etc.) To have a good colour separation you need to wait until you reach a certain temperature. Again that will vary from what resin you will be using so its a case of experimentation unfortunately.

Question for anyone with knowledge of this; would the half mix on the hexagonal mold have produced a perfect half color like when first poured? I'm looking to design something like this with two colors and I want to learn the best way to get as equal as possible halves of two colors. Thanks! =).

@@CasualDIY I'm going by your example at around 12:00 mark with the blue/white colors. If those colors can stay apart like that on both sides of the epoxy mold, I get what I'm looking to design. It's a football lamp for my fiance and she's a Packers fan (sadly). I want to design to halve colors of yellow/green and keep them from bleeding/mixing into each other for best results. =).
@CasualDIY
@CasualDIY Жыл бұрын
Yes possible but achieving a perfect straight line will be extremely hard, in the end its a liquid. So before I started to stir both together that's what you could achieve - you just have to wait a bit until the resin is not so fluid anymore.

asking as a complete noob to this but what is the difference is effect from mica powders and deys
@CasualDIY
@CasualDIY 2 жыл бұрын
Dye will give you a solid colour, depending on how much dye you will add you may get different levels of transparency of the casting, or it may not be transparent at all. Mica Powders add colour and shimmering effect, you can make those swirls with them for some cool effects.

How to get smokey effect?

Fill your mold with see through resin. Wait until it gets to about 75 degree's ( it all depends on what resin you are using) so the resin thickens a bit. Then with a tooth pick( for example) introduce another resin (the smoke) and just move the pick so you create the desired result
