This is where the show gets more than just morally grey. The arrival of the Cylons while the population was so vulnerable gave me chills the first time (it's still impressive on re-watch, but WOO that first time!), the production team did an excellent job of portraying the stunned shock and fear of the people as an overwhelming force takes over their world, tapping in to the untold hours of footage that we've seen of oppressive armies in our own world, and projecting that same behaviour onto the Cylons. BSG never stops asking the question 'Do we deserve to survive?'

Sharon’s consistent. Back in “Sacrifice” Adama asked her if she would identify Cylons hiding in the fleet. She said no.

It was a year because the Cylons were a light year away from the explosion when they detected it. Took a year for them to see it, then come investigate.

Yes, it probably took them just a few hours or days to get to New Caprica after they detected the explosion.

Every time I go through the series, I'm _amazed_ at how much happens in these episodes. I mean, I _know_ what's coming and where we're ending up, and yet every single time I realize we're at the season finale and find myself thinking, "Wait, but XYZ hasn't happened yet, I thought that happened this season..." And of course Dean Stockwell. Heck with Quantum Leap, look at his filmography; his professional career goes back to the *1940s*! And he has credits in the 2010's. 70 years of active acting. Well, a mere 60 years experience when he was doing this. And you can see every one of them in his performance. The tiniest expressions and motions tell so much about the character, and you know that every one of them was _intentional_ from a master of his craft. It's something amazing to stand up in this cast, and still stand out.

One thing to remember watching the next few episodes, this was being shown on evening Network television right in the middle of the Occupation of Iraq. This is some of the bravest television i've ever seen.

A couple of notes; 1) the 39k+ isn't the total number of people left, just the ones on the planet. There are still some in the fleet. 2) Gina wasn't signaling the Cylons. She was committing suicide. Her doing so just happened the leave a signal that the Cylons later came across accidentally.

Another note: This is the second time we see the famed Adamastache in the show proper (the fandom's name for Adama's moustache). We first see it in the flashbacks in the episode Scattered.

As someone who works in higher ed, seeing the former president Roslyn in the classroom was nice to see...she didn't lose her skillset as an educator. She is so convincing! Love all the acting on this show!

It's crazy how many relevant political and social issues BSG brings up. Whether it's election fraud, fighting an occupation, or even outlawing abortion for the sake of repopulation, sci-fi stories allow us to explore these issues and reflect on them.

Yes this series is very relevant. The writers came from Star Trek Deep Space Nine and if you watched that series some of the same issues were starting to show in later episodes. But they were tied on what they could do. Also this series was considered after 911. I’ve been at bed this series so many times and live watching reactions to the episodes.

The show did become a bit dated. Today, Gaita would be called a conspiracy theorist or Cylon agent.

Mary McDonnell continues to amaze with her performance in this series. Her expression when she had to reveal to Adama what she had done was heartbreaking. Also I love the way Tricia Helfer always looks pinched and conflicted. Such amazing actors. Can't wait for you to see more.

When you watch the resistance and early season 3 remember when this was originally aired. And then take a step back and look at whom you are supporting doing what. What comes up is in my opinion the best part of BSG 2003 and the boldest part as well.

I remember watching this finale when it first aired on Sci-Fi and being so floored by everything that I literally sat in an empty bath tub with a bottle of whiskey, just TRYING to process all of it. We'll continue to keep your slate clean for S3, Chris!

What I find really interesting about BG is that characters who have been in the background might suddenly take the spotlight, and through brilliant writing and preformances carry the weight of the narrative! Quite often big dramatic shows like this try their hand expanding their tableau of dramatic personas, but end up diluting their own story and vision (and pacing). Lost, I'm looking at you!

The Cavils are agnostics & atheists. The Leobens are resurrection literalists. The Sharons & Sixes are devout monotheists (who probably think Leoben is crazy.) Cylons have factions, just like humans do.

I remember watching this with a group. The funny thing is that the biggest shock wasn't Kara and Anders being married. Or Helo as the XO of Galactica or Lee as the CO of the Pegasus. That Laura would go there wasn't even the big a shock. It was that Starbuck would hug Tigh and be happy to see him. All of this has happened before. All of this will happen again.

Thank you Chris! Not only for taking the time to edit and upload for us, but doing both parts of the episode this week. The first part of this episode gave me two in a row where Laura made dubious moral choices, which makes this a great time to be watching the show. You had the same shock we did at all the time jump reveals - Starbuck is *married* ?! A whole year?! Saul and Kara getting along?! Wonderful series finale, it gave us so many reasons to tune in for the next one. The webisodes were wonderful, and while the opening of season 3 was great - *I VERY MUCH HOPE YOU WATCH THE EXTENDED/DIRECTOR CUT* now available, the few added scenes have enormous impact on character interaction, with ongoing nuance that was lost when they were cut from the aired length. I don’t have another extended episode on my blu ray until I think unfinished business. I think that’s the only one in season 3, but I’d have to check. Definitely no extended episodes in the first 7, so if they exists elsewhere I’ve missed them :) Appreciate your comments and sharing all your thoughts and opinions on the characters and their choices.

For the folks on New Caprica, it has to be a terrible nightmare. First the Cylons occupy Caprica during the purge, and now the Cylons are occupying New Caprica.

just a heads up, they didn't wait a year to come get them at new caprica. the nuclear blast flash/radiation took one year to reach the cylons as they were around 1 light-year away, not knowing where the fleet was

Have to add, a tip of the hat to Dean Stockwell. It was a complete surprise to see him here in this show. I missed his other TV roles, so my memory of him comes from his understated yet brilliant youthful performance opposite Katherine Hepburn in Eugene O'Neill's LONG DAYS JOURNEY INTO NIGHT. A GREAT film worthy of a reaction. -Hint. Hint.

The fleet did not lose 10,000 people. That number was the population of New Caprica City. There are still close to 30 ships in orbit that cannot land and require at least a skeleton crew to pilot and maintain, particularly the two Battlestars! While I'm sure there were a high number of losses (mostly from the explosion of Cloud 9 taking several other ships with it) it's not to the degree you feared.

I hope you have access to the BSG Wepisodes that came out between Season 2 and 3. These where short 5 minutes episodes put on KZbin back then that show the life on New Caprica. Maybe they are still on KZbin, idk. Much recommended.

Right there with you on the whole election fixing issue. It was really disappointing and really undermines the integrity of a lot of our favorite characters. But without spoiling anything, I will say that the next four episodes may cause you to really question how you feel about it. I won't spoil, but will just say that you will see some things that may make you feel like, "Wow, for the sake of the survival of humanity, maybe Laura's 'any means necessary' approach wasn't such a bad idea after all."

They said, that they were just over a light year away when they detected the signal of a Nuclear Detonation. It takes Light And other forms of electromagnetic Energy a year to travel one Light Year. That's why the Cylons did not show up to a year later. THE big question " to me " is: It's been over a year since Sharon and Carl's baby was born... why is it still an infant?

The way they use lighting in this show is awesome. There's just something 'wrong' about New Caprica. The cold light, the constantly howling wind. Bare soil. Everything about the set screams at you that if they stay there humanity would slowly go extinct even without any help from the Cylons.
