"Holden was starting to feel like they were all monkeys playing with a microwave. Push a button, a light comes on inside, so it’s a light. Push a different button and stick your hand inside, it burns you, so it’s a weapon. Learn to open and close the door, it’s a place to hide things. Never grasping what it actually did, and maybe not even having the framework necessary to figure it out. No monkey ever reheated a frozen burrito. So here the monkeys were, poking the shiny box and making guesses about what it did." - Abaddon's Gate

That sounds very much like the humans tinkering with the alien artefacts in the Strugatsky Brothers' Roadside Picnic, except that their metaphor is that of ants crawling over alien detritus, some of which is useful, some deadly, and none of it comprehensible to the ants.

Love it when people fall in love with just how good this show is! Great reaction! Your comments on how Amos doesn't feel fear are very good. He said he hasn't felt fear since he was five years old... What was it we saw when Holden put his hand in and completed the circuit? Looking forward to the next reaction! Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄

When Holden was talking to Proto-Miller in the Station and they talked about Eros, the music reminded me of the score that they played during the Home episode. Nicely done! And that vision was just wild, can you imagine what anyone else will think if/when Holden tries to tell them what he saw? Break out the padded jacket!

In high school, after I was absent for several days, my History teacher/PE coach who liked to joke and laugh with the students, walked up to me smiling and laughing and asked me "Who died". When I said my Uncle, the look on his face, pure embarrassment and regret. He barely said anything to me for the rest of the school year.

@TimmayytooКүн бұрын
You've already watched the next episode at this point so it's no spoiler but if you look at what Holden was seeing when he put his hand into that slot or whatever - he saw everything that had happened so far with the protomolecule, only in reverse... as though it was rewinding time, and then we saw what looked like the inside of the ring only with many holes or portals looking at multiple suns. Therefore it stands to reason what Holden was seeing was something that had already happened in the past, and given that the protomolecule was dormant inside Phoebe for a looooong time before humans discovered it, it almost certainly has gaps in its records.

"accidentally discharged weapon" is a euphemism that is for morale, but also military family benefits/insurance.

I have seen this comment so many times, but I wonder if it is actually true. I feel like insurance companies would for sure investigate and deny it.
@thomashiggins9320Күн бұрын
@@PsychoMuffinSDM Military personnel usually get life insurance through their employers, the same as most people. The difference is, the likelihood of payout is substantially higher for them (as one might expect), so their colleagues/commanding officers make sure the families get what they need, should it happen.
@PsychoMuffinSDMКүн бұрын
@ I did a tiny bit of research, and it looks like you don’t even need the euphemism to get the payout. One’s death would need to be a result of some other felony for denial.

Ive seen people insisting for years that it was the Sol system that got blasted, but when you slow it down and go frame by frame-ish, you see that the ringed planet is BLUISH, therefore not Saturn, and the next planet the beam passes is Greenish, so not Jupiter. So, it was replaying images of a different stellar system. Clearly it was attempting to intervene in some way.

A fun fact that makes me laugh is that the show was cancelled after this season. Like, what the hell else could you want in a show than what season 3 gave us? Thanks Jeff Bezos for saving the show, and I hope his $600,000,000 (like what??) wedding this weekend goes off without a hitch, but I would have preferred that money to go towards a couple more seasons to finish off the final books in the series.

The issue wasn't how good the storyline was, the first thing that made SyFy drop it was that it was costly, with some people from SyFy giving it the nickname The Expense, which was a major issue because SyFy was teetering on the edge of bankruptcy. The second is that the deal SyFy made did not allow it to make money on The Expanse after its first run. Reruns didn't gain it money, and SyFy didn't know how to monetize streaming due to how new that was (and how old fashioned they are). So it was purely a financial issue for them. Probably didn't help that they would have been looped in on what was necessary for season 4, so they would have known that a lot of shoots would need new sets and shooting in locations that hadn't been done before. The expenses would have expanded for SyFy.

The series knits together several Henry James stories - principally The Turn of the Screw, but several others along the way. If you want to see a great adaptation of that story on its own, check out the 1961 film The Innocents. (Flanagan will pull this trick of combining stories again - even better, in my opinion - when you get to his Poe adaptation, The Fall of the House of Usher.)

Dude. You edited out the best part. "This is my timey whimey machine. It dings when there's stuff. It can also boil an egg at 50 paces. Whether you want it to are not, actually. I've learned to stay away from hens. It's not pretty when they blow." And as funny as that dialogue is, it is 10 times funnier with Tennent's performance. Should have left it in. (That said, I did enjoy your reaction.)
