I have hEDS, hypermobile Ehlers Danlos. The fact that her doctors knew about that one patient’s hypermobility syndrome and gave her adequate pain and spasm control impressed me. Here in the states she would wait for hours on end then given little to no pain control while they tried to relocate the joint. I wish we had a system more like NHS. Insurance and profits literally rule medicine here.

I’m a US hEDS patient too. I fully agree with you. The fact she even got pain management amazed me. I waiting 5 hours to see a doctor, and when I finally did, he tried to relocate my hip without any medication because, “I thought since you dislocate so easily, it doesn’t hurt. You do this at home all the time, right?” Like sir I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t need help relocating it..

This medical show was excellent! You all seemed to work together like a well oiled machine.. It was beautiful to watch! Everyone seemed to speak softly and quietly which was realky calming. You treated patients with respect and compassion and always positive even towards each other! You're a great team together! .y daughter is RN in Alabama and I notice how they're kinda the same way towards each other. I worked 10 yrs in a nirsing home. Loved the job but physically it was hard. I had to quit due to fibromyalgia pain and fatigue in my 40's. Loved the medical field....you're always lear ing and it's always something new and differemt every day. Great job everyone! You made it look effortless! Thank you!

4 hours?! We are lucky if we get to see a doctor and get even one test done by that point in our ED 🙃 It’s typically an all day wait in ours if you’re there for anything much.

I went to ER last night and some people had been in waiting room for 7 hours. They were doing what they could with labs and stuff. I went in for high heart rate and chest pain and was even told to expect a wait. Thankfully they got me back right away. I thinks it’s staffing issues more than bed issues.

When the nurse told Steve this is the good stuff, I freaked a bit. Years ago I developed sepsis & was in terrible pain, so they gave me Dilaudid. That nurse said the same thing to me & my partner, who was looking out for me, as I'm unable to handle Codeine, "it's the good stuff," I honestly don't remember much of it. I was out of my head with the pain. I was still saying I hurt, so they gave me a 2nd dose. I began experiencing apnea, meaning my breathing was stopping & starting & then my blood pressure bottomed out. From what I was told afterwards, it took 7 full bags of saline solution to bring my BP back & when I woke up in the ICU at 2 in the morning, it was still low & there was an 8th bag on my IV pole! Come to find out, Dilaudid is not recommended for asthmatics, but the nurse never asked if I had asthma. I have it liated everywhere now, "No Dilaudid!" 😅

It is always important to tell medical staff your medical history as it does make a difference in the meds used and treatments given as well as giving staff a heads up so they can keep an eye on anything that may exacerbate previous and new issues. 😊

I severely broke my ankle here in the States, had to call for an ambulance since i couldnt get into my truck to get to the hospital. I am allergic to Codeine but have had other iv pain meds in the past. The Physician Assistant said i was not getting anything for pain, when they set it in place i screamed and was in tears. I have nerve damage in the other leg which at times gives out and I went down a flight of stairs. The Physician Assistant had the nerve to say i was drug seeking, yeah like i took to dive on purpose. I ended up with a big plate holding it all together. Well got ahold of a patient advocate filed a complaint and guess what ? The Physician Assistant was told to come me and apologize for her mistake in her assumption and she got some time off to think about it. Hospitals here suck. Zero compassion. All about the dollar

I've been in that same situation! I almost died a few times and the ER nurses said that I was a drug seeker!!! The Dr told my mother and I that when a Caucasian female in my age group comes in that they automatically name them as a drug seeker!!! To this day I wish I would have sued them!!! I lost a finger in one of those visits! North Florida Regional Hospital in Gainesville, Florida. The nurse was Joy Nydstrom! I'll never forget that!!! Our system is screwed!!!!!!!

@tamibell4325 Hi there sorry to hear what happened to you that's just crazy. I had to goto the ER 5 days after having the second fusion in my back I had 40 staples and stuff was leaking out thru the incision area. Well by the next day my legs were totally paralyzed so I called the doc he said to get to the hospital right away and he would let them know I was coming. Where I live, they take you to the nearest hospital, but where I had to go was about 45 min away. I get there my back feels like it's going to explode and my legs are not working. Th ambulance driver made some comment to the doctor and he came in and said the same thing as the other place. This doc paraded all these people parading thru saying I was drug seeking, my doctor hadn't called yet. My brother had all my meds in a bag and threw it at the doc and told him to look in the bag. He still wouldn't order anything for me. Then my surgeon got there and my brother explained what happened and he made that doctor go get every person that came in my room and had them apologize, including the ER doc. 2 hours later I was having emergency surgery to remove a huge hematoma had formed with so much pressure it was crushing my spinal cord. That was Thanksgiving morning at 600am. I filed a complaint again which needed to be done cause of the non-treatment and being labeled a drug seeker. My doctor talked to human resources and he no longer works in the ER at that hospital. I was only released from there a day and a half before this happened for the original operation. Sorry about the rant but I thought it may interest you since what happened to you. Let me know what you think. Take care.

Its an over reaction from the opioid crisis. They gave out opiates like sweeties and are now, literally paying the price in lawsuits. People in England have no idea how bad the drug problem is here. I spend time in both places and it is really really bad here. I assume that all other drivers around me are high.

I just had major surgery, once back home my pharmacy refused to fill my rx pain med because they "didn't want me to end up like the movie stars". Medical care here in the States is awful!! I'm moving around in extreme pain so my chest doesn't fill with fluid. It's nice in this show to see doctors and nurses actually listen to the patients and deeply care.

Its absolutely sickening. Ive been labeled as a drug seeker as well. I have a bunch of very painful diseases. One of which is a brain tumor disease, super rare. A lot of drs have heard of it but never seen it or treated it. 1 in a million people get it. I almost died from it. It took two years to diagnose me. The er totally has pissed my whole family off. I was in the hospital three weeks one of the times. The er staff should have been sued. The rest of the staff at the hospital was fantastic. Our country is so caught up in punishing anyone with pain its ridiculous. Ive had well over 200 surgeries, ive lost count. I have had two major brain surgeries in the last three years, adrenal insufficiency, non alcoholic cirrhosis, diabetes, plus many other diseases. My drs in Portland at ohsu, the university hospital get so pissed off at these drs down here. Good luck to everyone. I know the hospitals there seem wonderful, the staff seem to be. Ive seen some new documentaries on the insane amount of time people are staying in the er waiting for a room. Its a world wide problem.

Which was a surprise. 3 weeks previously I was riding pillion on my dad's motorbike, both came off it. Landed on my wrist, which hurt. Turns out it was just a sprain

The USA may have its problems, but every place does, but until you work in the medical field or any field you should always show some degree of compassion. You never know what that person has went through. A patient could have just died. They could have just been involved in a code in a distant relative and can’t leave due to short staff. They are battling a migraine; I have had to work through those before. It’s a struggle. A sick child at home. Medical people have lives too. They give all they can to their patients and career.

@amyhendricks3627

@@gregadomeit4020if you mean steroids, I agree. Injections into our joints and vertebrae is an off label use. Over use in this manner can actually be damaging to the joints (bones). I had this conversation with my doctor, and she explained that as long as the injections are properly spaced in time it is safe. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I'm concerned because I am due to have injections in my lower spine this month 😳 it is the last conservative treatment before having full on surgery. I have serious narrowing of my spinal canal and it is hoped that the steroids will reduce the inflammation of surrounding structures. 🙏🏻🤞🏻🙏🏻🤞🏻🙏🏻🤞🏻
