Cat 316E + Trimble GCSFlex - Digging A Septic System

Using a rented Caterpillar 316E excavator with a Trimble GCSFlex system. In this video I am using the system to excavate for a septic system. No getting out of the machine required! Good video I do a lot of filter beds in southern Maine never seen a pipe in stone bed put in like that.

Need a wider bucket for sure, I have 315cl have runs a 48" bucket in rocking clay with no problem.

+Dirt Ninja good deal! I bought a 32" for typical pipe work and a 54" for heavy moving. Never looked back. Do you guys have too much rocky material to run spade teeth on your bucket? We always run spades and makes a huge difference in final surface!

now that looks easy! then getting in a out, in a out of the excavator many times? although I never done that before. so I wouldn't know how it works? but fom the video it looks like it might be easy.? but so great video of that. you do great.

After sitting home for 3 months this winter, i'm thinking that i can't do it next year also. Gonna try to get a job as a excavator operator from a another company. Have you started with interstate jobs now?

We done a lot of digging last year putting drains in around the farm and with our excavator and tractors my girlfriend said men don’t grow up our toys just get bigger and more expensive

For a replacement septic system thats unusual. We had ours redone and its an "engineered system" that uses these black plastic pieces/boxes that fit together for the leach fields. They also put in a new septic tank and liquid tank which is then pumped into the leach fields. Was space an issue on this job? If so would you normally use those boxes? Or did they catch it before it failed?

+Mike Buffing It had failed. The original system was a stone and pipe system. The replacement was a stone and pipe system. This system was also engineered by a septic designer. I just follow the design and install the system. I dont do any designs. There was nothing usual about this system. It was a pain, especially with it being re-designed twice midway through construction.

So with a bigger machine like that why don't u just use the large mud bucket ?? A lot more ground comes out making it faster.
