Here is my new Trimble GCS Flex 2D system on our new 305.5e2. The system is unbelievably useful in a ton of hardscaping and excavation tasks. This is a long video but I wanted to show all the features of the system. I hope you like it. Stay tuned for part 2. Like what you see? And yet with all this technology you still get the old "We won't hire you unless you have experience!" very frustrating working with old boys bitching about their backs and hemorrhoids yet they will NOT give a young guy a chance! BS!!

Because machines are expensive and the risk of a young guy being rough on the machine is way higher than an experienced operator. As a earthwork contractor I would hardly ever hire a young operator vs an older one, the risk outweighs the reward,.

gps is awesome but so expensive. just got a whole trimble setup for our cat d5 and the cost was well north of $50,000

419friedtoast Yes expensive but well worth it in my opinion. Makes everything easier and go quicker for sure.

How does it work when swapping between a mini and a mid size excavator if they take the total station measurements on initial setup? I guess my other question would be what does this system cost? This would be perfect for the type work I do. I don’t think I’d need anything more than what you have setup here. I understand if you don’t want to talk about $$$. The touch point process is essentially giving you another bench mark that is relative to wherever you are on the dig.

Do you have to be on a level surface for the system to work properly? How does it handle it if you were to dig for example a house lot in a weak slope? Great videos, keep em coming!
@DirtNinja
@DirtNinja 9 жыл бұрын
Hans-Erling Hanssen You do not. The first sensor I showed in the video is for pitch and roll of the machine. It calculates for all that. Thanks for watching!

Great video. Can't wait for part 2! When you grade your stone do you still keep it at a 1 inch tolerance?
@DirtNinja
@DirtNinja 9 жыл бұрын
Dirt and Snow I have it set to half inch tolerance

Very cool system. I actually talked to my Cat salesmen the other day just because you like your new Cats so much. It will be a couple years before I'm ready to upgrade but I will definitely be checking out the Cats and Trimble when I'm ready.

So in your opinion does it still take any skill to operate and be efficient with this system or could u teach someone making 12 dollars an hour to run it because I fear that this will drive down operator wages
@DirtNinja
@DirtNinja 9 жыл бұрын
txpipeliner07 Yes it still takes skill. It doesnt run the machine for you. It will make a ok operator a good operator, a good operator a great operator and a great operator even faster.

I doubt wages will be lower at the end of the day you are responsible of a machine 60k and upwards. technology like this makes you more efficient

No you do not. It all runs off the laser. Its only 2D not 3D so no GPS is used.
