I used to run a huge John deere grapple skidder. Those machines are more fun than people should be allowed to have at work lol.

agreed, especially inclines and when building large log decks

I learned on a 518 then went to a 528. Your smart for filming your time in the woods. You’ll look back on it someday.

Yeah, copy that.. and be around long enough to look back :) CAT diesel power!!..

Love the videos!!! I drive skidder as well... i love my grapple especially in the wintertime! 👊💪

Right on! Good on you.. hopefully you operate an enclosed cab for winter time!!.. I end up hanging a small propane heater off the cab screen, don't really get any warmth but the red glow helps my head space :)

I still run a 518c. It is getting very difficult to find parts for it. Do you happen to know where I could find a bunching grapple for it? We have the log grapple and would much rather run a bunching style but I cannot find one

Buddy of mine needs some help on a job and asked me to come operate a Skidder. I have no experience or formal training on this particular machine... Any words of advice?

"Powder your cheeks and bring a spare pair of shorts" :) ...always set the brake before moving from the seat, don't set anything on the tires and get a feel for it before going ahead on! After that, stay shiny side up, smile and pop a wheelie - Full Tank Mode

Great video again! Glad to see another skidder video! Did you guys replace the 440 to get the grapple skidder??
@redlinetimber5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that, appreciate the comment and thumbs-up.. the JD440 went down the road and found a new home.. the 518 is far better suited to the terrain and task of logging in So. Oregon, more stability and overall power to the ground! Plus building turns from the seat!!

Need a little help with something. What type oil is required for the axles?

jeremyhuntermanning I think it’s just gear oil. 90 weight probably
@hoskinslogging98584 жыл бұрын
jeremyhuntermanning I’ll verify that later today and get back to you.

jeremyhuntermanning best thing to do is call CAT or Wayne’s supply and give them a serial number. Take the guess work out if it.

Put it in neutral give it some throttle hydraulic work faster an close the grapple alittle so you won’t blow the tires out but awesome video I run a grapple skidder my self best job there is lol
@redlinetimber2 жыл бұрын
this was flat ground so.. sometimes I do, but most times I don't rev unless trying to high-ball.. but, I get me some rpm on the inclines or pushing for loads ..and YES, that is where I clam up the grapple to avoid my tires.. so usually just try to take it easy on him most the other days.. Best 4x4/Job there is!!

Running with the grapple open cost you a tire
@redlinetimber5 жыл бұрын
That is a possibility on steeper ground, awareness is key. If the grapple's swinging that hard on flat ground it's time to back off a little or you're likely to stretch the O-ring.. =0
@cheekcj5 жыл бұрын
Put some throttle into it man, your hydraulics will run much faster.
@redlinetimber5 жыл бұрын
Add some mustard??.. sometimes yes, like dropping the turn or winching :) ..but requires shifting to neutral :\ ..so with both hands on grapple controls and needing the machine in gear for positioning?? plus those extra turns usually don't pay for the down time and repairs. Cats generate considerable hyd pressure, 1500 psi on the grapple, at just an idle =0
