Cat 740 AC Repair

How to troubleshoot and charge a warm blowing A/C system on a Caterpillar 740 Articulated rock truck. this is the exact same system as a Cat 735 and very similar to most Caterpillar machines. Remember do not release Freon into the air because in the 1990's they told us that it made a big ol' hole in the atmosphere, that was before they invented global warming, and it is illegal to release it, even though if we did release enough of it could it possible reopen the (imaginary) hole in the Ozone layer and let all of the excess heat out, fixing global warming???. So there you have been warned. Also do not breath in R134a as it is very poisonous... Breath enough and you will puke your guts out for about 6 hours (ask me how I know). Breath enough and it can be fatal.

Been looking around and can’t find any info as to where the blower resister is located on the 320 excavator any one knows?

I’d have to look it up later but they are usually in the blower box so that the air passing through keeps them from overheating

I bet you have either a bad ground or broken wired in the harness

I see thank you and I think my work last week 988 wheel loader i changed all hose all filter flashing condenser and Evaporator new compressor then I put gas about 220psi high side but low side is only 20psi while running the engine but cooling not good after that I put more refrigerant 270psi high side 30psi low side become cold while idling the engine if i rising the rpm 310psi high side low side same 30psi this is normal?

I find slowly metering the refer in by just cracking the valve is much safer especially if you a charging with refer tank upside down and in liquid state keeps the pump from flooding and also over charge by accident. Just my 2 cents. FJB!!!!

I would have to look at it. I has to be somewhere between the evaporator core and the compressor. The low side or suction line is the larger hose.

With the A/C running with engine at idle I line to have around 25 to 30 psi on the low side.

I actually use an A/C machine to evacuate and refill. But this is how to check it with only gauges. Most people cannot afford a $10k machine.
