Nah the real mother is clearly sick and dying. You can see her fur isn't clean and disheveled. Personally my guess, she's suffering from FIV and can tell she's about to pass. When a cat can tell it's their time to go generally they'll hide, don't want anyone to see them lying around dead. Anyhow because of this her kittens are hungry and wondering where their mother is so they'll cry. That being said any cat that is a mother or was will hear their cries for hungry and become emotional knowing how sad she'd feel if her babies were hungry. The foster mom will follow the cries till shes close. She'll inspect the kitten den, if the mother isn't there they'll wait a while and if mom doesn't show up she'll most likely claim the children. Why would a cat foster them? Well it's only if she is currently or recently was a mother. That's when her maternal instincts come into play on feeding and protecting them. Truly a beautiful thing to do.

Thing is if a mammal mother (any mother) gives birth her milk will continue as long as she continues to utilize that feature. Idk if you heard of a "wet nurse"? Well in many well off rich families a mother whos too busy to bother with motherly duties might just higher a wet nurse. Basically higher a female who can still produce milk to take care of her child, change the diaper, clothe them, burp them, and yes even breast feed them. The wet nurse will most the time have this pump tool to withdrawal her own milk. So like I said, as long as you keep continuing to withdrawal milk your body will assume you still need this feature and continue to produce. Same with cats. A cat that recently was once a mother hears kittens crying cause their hungry. When they hear the babies crying they automatically get memories of their own babies and feel upset so they'll follow the cries. They stalk the litter of kittens to see if momma is coming back. When she doesn't she might assume that roll of foster mom. This mostly happens with recently mothered cats. They still are producing the milk and still have their motherly instinct wither or not it's their own kids. A female cat that never gave birth most likely won't understand, she might poke her head in to check out the babies making a fuss out of curiosity but she'll eventually just leave. Only reason a mother would abandond them if she's very sick. The poor mother in this video was clearly in no shape to raise them and nearing death. She was lucky a former mom was close by to save them.

Once I had a pregnant stray cat came to my house ask for food regularly. few weeks later, the stray cat was giving birth and my mom brought abandoned kitten from street and got the mommy cat nursed her. 1 year later the abandoned kitten, named Bobo, grew up and giving birth 4 babies. she abandoned her babies right after they were born. looked like she confused about the kitten. her breast swollen up and she was in pain. made her refused her babies even more. my mom gave the babies to the stray mommy cat, that also had 4 babies at that time. so she nursed 8 kittens. that made Bobo so jealous, my mom gave the mommy cat more attention and food than for her. so she started to kidnapped her own babies back. usually 4 babies, sometimes 3. she sometime kidnapped wrong baby but she didn't care. In my experiences, usually young mom can abandoned her kitten because she doesn't know what to do.

Or obsessively take care of them, but they still die and she just sits there grooming them, feeding them, and obsessing over them looking panicked because she can't tell why this is happening to her. Cats will happily interchange kittens, but I've never seen an animal so upset that she apparently didn't know how to care for her own. (Or may have had an infection or deficiency or something as a young cat. Future litters were fine.) She did figure it out, and take her future litters to tuck into bed with me and show them off. And she'd excitedly show me when they did things. She was intensely excited over those balls of fluff, but she didn't start out knowing how to care for them at all. I've never seen so much effort expended on something that seemed so far out of reach, by an animal. She was really intense. Cats should attend parenting classes, whether they're helicopter parents or neglectful. .jk

@@cassandrabelyeu2419 Bobo also always moved their kittens to our bed when she thinks they are old enough. she thought human will help her raise her kittens, or just being a proud mom showing off the babies, because we always happy to see her babies. and she knew that. Bobo was not so good to be a mom because her lack maternal love, almost likely weaned her babies less than 1 month. I think it was because she was been abandoned in the past. she didn't know how to raise the baby. tend to loved the male kitten and kick out the female one. the babies grew up, but Bobo still loves the mommy's boy (5 years old) and hit the girl when she came to close (5 years old, bigger than her). we spayed and neuter them. Bobo is 17 years old now, vet said she can live 5 more years if she wanted. lol.

Aw, my helicopter-mom cat who didn't know how to raise kittens, at first, never hit her kittens. She did expect me to admire them, but even after one of them got old and obnoxious, she still loved all her former kittens. When we had her neutered and she was on drugs, she went right up to her aggressive adult kitten and started grooming him just like before. He was so alarmed at her boldness he jumped over the sofa armrest to get away instead of attacking her like usual. None of her former kittens could ever start a fight with her, she would just start loving on them. It actually became a problem, with that one who turned out a jerk. We had to give him away, she could not accept that any cat who she'd ever nursed wasn't still her little angel. She didn't interfere with other cats hitting him, but she let him straight up steal her food. He was getting fatter and she was getting thinner. She did have maternal love, for all of them, even her obese, aggressive manchild. She didn't know how to raise them, and had left her mother young, but she knew to love them somehow. She might be unusual. But I love her.

One just doesn't want to take care of her kids (won't let them nurse etc) for whatever reason (temperament, the smell of humans/other cats on her kids), one acted similar to the one before because she sensed the kids won't survive, so she abandoned them and/or ate them. Others could be incredibly attentive and overprotective. It differs from cat to cat I guess. Just like us humans.

Yeah that could very well be the reason the real mother rejects the kittens The other cat mat have caused the problem by butting in on the situation. If they check both mothers for swollen nipples it could clear some things up. mother cats get that when they have a litter. It would at least prove who gave birth recently and who did not.

I had two momma cats give birth within a few days of each other and they were constantly stealing each other’s kittens! I had two boxes set up for them but as soon as one of the mommas would get out of her box to eat or use the litter box, the other momma would jump into her box and nab the kittens. I finally lost track of which kittens belonged to which momma and they all ended up sharing a box. All of the kittens survived and grew up to be happy, healthy adults!

The color of her coat really has no affect on the color of her kittens, and you also have to factor in the male cat who impregnated her. Cats don't get coat color like humans. I've had pure black cats give birth to snow white kittens and vice-versa.

I had a Siberian Russian cat which had babies, so one of her babies grew up and had a litter of her own and once she gaved birth she was too tired and frustrated to feed and give attention to the babies. The grandmother of the kittens would breast feed them and once her daughter was in the right mindset she would comeback and let the kitties suck her milk. They didn't have a problem sharing them at all it just seemed like the kittens were attached to the grandma rather than the birth mom since grandma was always feeding and playing with them and mom was wildlin outside x). I miss that siberian cat so much she was the best cat I ever had.

My cat and her mother gave birth on the same day and we had a total of around 7 or so kittens. This was some few years ago. Both cats alternated nursing duties and taking care of them. Today both cats are fixed and my cat's mother always hisses at her despite being related while her grandson (my cat's son) gets along with grandma pretty good until he misbehaves by being a bully at times and has be put in his place.

I guess you are showing false information, the cat you are saying being not the real mom, is actually the real mom as she is the one producing milk and she is clearly having the feeding circular mark around her breast and also the body colour of the kittens match with the cat.

Apparently, (happens to almost every animals and same for us) we can product milk without being pregnant, when the female cat felt the kittens trying to drink milk, her brain identified it as if she really had kittens so milk is producing cause of the kittens being there (happening because of hormonal informations to the brain) im not english so idk if it makes sense 😂
