No, it's not a cooler to keep cats cold. We made an old cooler into a cat home for the winter months.

Nice job! Going to do this too and have been watching a bunch of vids for "cat cooler houses". Going consensus though with your type of cooler with that top is to flip it over so that water does not infiltrate from the top since it does not overhang. Just a thought.

We put a real cat door on one of these and my cat likes to be outside even overnight she doesn't really like to be in the house so it's a problem for us but anyways we put a 24-hour heating pad and I made a cover for it, so she lives in our outdoor sunroom and she's warm and happy.

Does your wife know you use her precious IKEA dish towels to clean up this cat house of yours 😂

Followed these directions but both of my shelters are LEAKING. Not sure from where, their lids are intact and tight. Any suggestions?

Hi Linda. I can't even guess where it'd be leaking from. Perhaps embrace the leak and make a hole in the corner for water to drain out the bottom. Good luck!

The lid of a basic cooler is not a perfect seal, and lacks an overhang. Addressing either will resolve the major water intrusion via roof issue. You can apply tape around the entire circumference of the lid, or add an overhang extended beyond on all sides. I use the door cutouts as a small doorway overhang, to additionally shed wind/rain. Gorilla tape been holding up well for me, after a few years of outdoor weather exposure (sun, rain, snow, etc.).
